I'm shocked no American has been in here yet, sayin "Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall" "Torque, is how far you can push it" Following by the screech of a bold eagle, shooting a AR15 rifle to measure °f in football fields, to the power of cheeseburgers.

With all these new Electic powered vehicles & their capabilities…. I’m sensing Guy has some more work on the ole SPEED series!? I’ve always said, he may not have achieved that all out dream of his at the TT. But, with all of his Records and absolute treasures of projects that he’s been associated with earn him the Legendary status in all of our hearts! ….The reading material ain’t half bad either! 👍🏻

For anyone who's actually not clear about power/torque: Torque is how much power's in each stroke. Horsepower's how much power is output per second. So the diesel version of my car gets 150hp at 4500rpm, with max torque at 320nm at 2000rpm. The petrol version gets 150hp at 5500rpm, with max torque of 230nm at 3000rpm. So, each stroke of the diesel has more power, but the engine can't turn over as quickly as the petrol. It pulls hardest at low revs, while the petrol pulls hardest at mid revs, but you have to really rev the petrol to get the same power out of it that you'd get from the diesel lower down. Another factor is power to weight of course. The petrol gets 150 bhp out of a 1.4 litre engine, and the diesel needs a 1.9, 85kg heavier engine to get the same power, so the diesel might feel more powerful in normal driving, but in a side-by-side test, the petrol's quicker to 60mph by about 0.6 seconds.

Not a bad analogy. I think of it as: Torque is how much work you can get out of each stroke and Horsepower is how many of those strokes you can get in a period of time. When people think of torque in a car or motorcycle, what they are actually feeling is acceleration caused by the EXCESS power available at a given RPM. A faster-spinning low-torque engine can feel exactly the same as a slower spinning high-torque one. You explained this well with " you have to really rev the petrol to get the same power out of it that you'd get from the diesel lower down". For some reason, many people can't understand the importance of gear ratios.

That’s how I always look at it - horsepower gives you the speed, torque gets you to that speed quicker.

So it is faster than the wobbleplate. But how far can you drive it before refueling?? And how much heavier is it than with the wobble plate. IF you want to go faster fit a Subaru wobble plate, treble the horsepower and it will probably be near as fast and a LOT more driveable. And possibly more economical than a 1200 wobbleplate

Torque is the "force" you apply. Power depends on how often you can apply that "force". Example: I'm a 300 pound fatty. If I get on a bicycle and apply my weight to a pedal with a 1 foot long pedal arm, I'm applying 300 foot pound of torque. A 100 pound Tour de France (TdF) lightweight rider only applies 100 foot pound of torque to the pedal. The reason my fat arse haven't won the TdF yet, is that despite being able to apply way more torque than a TdF pro, I can't apply the torque nearly as many times per minute as the TdF pro, so my power output sucks, despite having more torque. Power = torque * rpm - simple as that, so if I apply 300 foot pounds of torque to the pedals once a minute I'm not winning anything, however if I'm able to apply it 100 times a minute I'm leaving everyone in a cloud of dust.
