Just a note: When putting screws back into wood or plastic, with gentle pressure turn the screw backwards and feel it drop into the threads of the hole. This will help prevent the making of new threads or cross threading. If you do strip a small screw hole. You can put in a broken piece of wooden toothpick with a small drop of wood glue on it into the hole. Tap lightly cut even. Insert screw. Larger hole? Use larger piece of wood filler.

Great video! You have a very calming and no nonsense style to your videos that is super direct and easy to follow. Very little needless filler. In my experience, the vintage style tuners on my fender have almost about the same amount of gear slop direct from fender. I work in a machine shop and have access to some pretty crazy different types of lubricant. I found a very, very thick anti-sieze compound designed specifically to kind of make up for looser tolerances that these style of machine heads seem to exhibit. It is not a "miracle" remedy by any means, but it gives the tuners a bit of a nicer, less loose feel. I used permatex nickel, but there are various types one could purchase. Very good review, I might try these out for my budget strat and use my previous method. Have a great one👍👍

I was in the process of purchasing Grover Deluxe 135N (3L-3R) tuning machine heads for my Epiphone ES-335 Pro guitar when I came across a set of Guyker locking heads for $28.99 on Amazon. The Grover head set was $52.99. I like the price and the string locking feature of the Guyker heads but I didn't know anything about them. Thanks to your video, I will be purchasing the Grover machine heads even if they are more expensive and don't have the locking feature. The amount of play in the Guyker tuning heads concerns me. Thanks also for the suggestion of using a capo to hold the strings in place when you are removing them from the tuning heads. That is a great idea. Thanks again for this providing this review.

Fantastic video. Thankyou for this. The info is welcome as someone who very nearly bought this brand of tuners for their guitar. I am in a predicament about tuners also and these were my last chance. I needed Kluson Style locking tuners only Kluson current models base plates are too large to fit properly on the back of my Tokai flying V guitar despite the fact the screw holes lineup. Since their baseplates are 1mm bigger than proper vintage style kluson tuners that 1mm adds up to making each tuner sit further away from the each one before it basically screwing the whole fitting up. So the other option is Gotoh locking tuners which will fit fine but they don't sell in chrome and only nickel so that's those scrubbed off the option list. And can I just say I currently have Wilkinson EZ lock installed and personally think they are useless as a locking tuner. Perhaps fine if not using the lock feature but if you are using it, I find the string is always slipping over time no matter how tight your wrap the string. If anyone knows of any other chrome, kluson style locking tuners around that will fit vintage spec guitar I'd welcome the suggestions. I believe Tone Pros no longer make kluson style so they are also off the possibility list.

That's why I'm replacing mine, turn tuner, no change for a while.

I have 2 sets of guyker tuners and their Les Trem copy also. First set were locking grover copies that work perfectly. Second set were beautiful looking round button with a custom design, that are the worst functioning tuners I've ever had. They are also locking. The trem I like but is rather flimsy. But again I do enjoy the action and feel but tuning is an adventure. It's hit or miss with these Chinese manufacturers. Not a bad company but don't be afraid to send stuff back. Great review! Should you add grease into the gear area under the round turning part? To take up space and make it tighter?

Once you are able to set the tuning though (despite the inaccurate turning), wouldn't the locking tuners provide more stability? I think the key to locking tuners is that the string won't move once you are done tuning, but I could be wrong.

I tried a set of Guyker locking tuners for my Bullet Strat. They were, without a doubt, the WORST tuning machines I have ever had the displeasure to try. The only thing I can say positive about them was the finish. The chrome plating was excellent. Quality control in a lot of these Chinese parts factories is hit or miss. The worst problem was the threads on the locking pin and knob. The threads were machined so poorly that you would need a set of pliers to turn the locking knob. I tried using a rubber jar opener to get a safe grip on the locking knob, but to no avail. One of the machines did work somewhat, but not as well as it should have. One tuner had the hole in the tuner post drilled at an angle, so the locking pin was trying to come out of the string hole. I contacted the seller and they sent me another set that was just as bad. I was sick of this and just wanted to put a set of tuners on this guitar to give to my neice who wanted to try and learn. I just picked all of the better working machines out of the two sets to make one semi workable set. I put a drop of oil on the locking pins threads and kept turning them in and out dozens of times and that loosened the locking part slightly. The first set came with one of the threaded bushings, that go in the front, unthreaded! Smooth, no threads. Thankfully, I used one from the other set. And the gear lash on those tuners was so bad, you could turn the tuning knob at least a quarter of a turn before the post starts to move. It was such a frustrating experience, I'll NEVER buy anything from this company again. Despite their customer service attempting to help. Jin Ho is a company in China that makes tuning machines. This is a company I have heard of for a long time. They make tuners for several companies that just put their brand on them. I took a set of tuners off a fairly new Strat recently. On the bottom of the originaltuners were the letters JH. (Jin Ho) They are a good buy for budget concious buyers. I have a set on two guitars. They are well worth the $35-$40 USD price point. "Tone Ninja" is another company that makes nice working, affordable tuners. I'm pretty sure Music Lilly and Wilkinson tuners are both made by Jin Ho. (I am not pushing Jin Ho for any kind of profit) These affordable options are not meant to compete with higher end tuning machines like Sperzel, Graph-Tec Ratio, Hipshot. I just don't own a guitar expensive enough to justify buying them. Just my two cents. Oh... If you are looking for a company that makes vintage style copies of older Kluson branded machines, a company in Korea manufactures them and markets them through a company in Florida under the name of WD Music Products. They have started to manufacture improved classic Kluson Branded tuning machines. I bought a set of "double ring, double line" classic vintage type tuners for my '69-'70 crossover Gibson SG Standard. The originals were totaly worn out. They have sets to match most vintage instruments that used Klusons. And the quality is way better than the originals. Well, okay... My four cents.

I ordered the black ones. Recieved and didnt have a pass through hole on any of them. I emailed the company and never even had the courtesy of a response. I sent them back and waited a month for another set and when recieved its the exact problem. No through bore hole to pass strings through. I wo der if they jist sent the same ones back. Crap service. And crap product.

Your old machine heads look like nickel and the guyker are chrome. I believe you can get the guyker in nickel and match that color.

Gibson guitar no Fender

These are perfect for cheaper Chinese guitars that you don't want to break the bank on for a set of locking Gotohs, but I wouldn't put them on anything else. I have 4 sets of these on my cheap guitars and they seem to be pretty good for those even though 1 of them on a set is a little on the tight side compared the rest. 1 out of 24 being less than desirable isn't too bad I guess.
