The song is about BTS and ARMY's "tough love" . The song is a playful reminder to fans that a boy band isn’t everything in life. Although the lyrics have a tough love vibe, the soft delivery of rap line and the lighthearted melody depicts a paternal tender way of reprimanding. This is truly one of a kind song. This shows the amount of trust BTS has in ARMY that they are now willing to call themselves an "alluring danger". All in all it is a cheeky song where BTS is taunting the fans (in a sweet way) for their intense love of BTS while taking full accountability that they are the reason for their fans to be this way. When the album first came out and people were doing translations of the lyrics, fans started saying “oh pied piper is a diss track against ARMYs” kind of as a joke, but that has a negative connotation when it’s not like that at all. BTS are obviously very thankful that we’re always there for them, it’s a relationship where both sides are very protective of each other, mostly from us to them. they’re saying (mainly RM’s verse), hey, we appreciate everything you do for us and how much you’ve given us, but you have lives too. Go study, stop tweeting, take an minute and don’t worry about us, we can take care of ourselves. The rest of the song follows more the pied piper theme, the piper/flute and song obviously being BTS themselves, those who follow are ARMYs. They know we would rather be supporting them and seeing them achieve greatness than anything, and that for some, supporting is a sort of escape from reality in a way. “Guilty pleasure, I’m here to save you I’m here to ruin you, I’m taking over you” Some lyrics can be lost in translation and almost have a sexual connotation which isn’t true to the actual message at all ;__;

I'm gonna explain bellow more in detail the issues with the translation, the message of the song and how it relates to the Pied Piper story. Okay, so keep in mind that lyrics video made as soon as the song came out were based on biased or not refined translations 1) the song is neutral in addressing fans, so they talk to both fangirls AND fanboys > that "good girl", which then many people took as having a sexual undertone, was actually "be nice/you're good" and was directed to all fans 2) this song is not exactly dissing us, which is what we jokingly say, but calling out fans' obsessive behavior that can get out of hand sometimes leading to negleting school, work or other important matters in life 3) they are criticizing going a little bit too far while still recognizing that they help us deal with hard stuff in our lives and we help them as artists and people by supporting them 4) so they encourage us to take care of ourselves and what requires our attention in real life, and enjoy our free time with them because they'll always be there waiting for us We were jokingly saying that they dissed us because they very explicitly enumerated the various things that we are guilty of doing when we procrastinate, aka making theories, being always on twitter, youtube, vapp, watching Bon Voyage and so on. BUT this also shows us that they DO pay very close attention to their fans and what they are doing, so they always look over us the same way we do with them. So the core message is: there's a mutual relationship made up of love and support between the two (BTS and ARMY), but in order to not get to a point where that relationship is not healthy any longer we need to not be too dependent on each other and also pay attention to ourselves and our commitments outside this relationship. It's a very clever song and definitely quite original and unique. You don't really hear artists addressing fan culture, with both its positive AND negative sides, the way BTS did here. To understand how this relates to the Pied Piper, you need to know the plot of this traditional story. So basically the story narrates about this town that was infested by rats. The town's people didn't know how to get rid of them and were quite desperate, until one day a man passed through the town who said that he could help them get rid of the rats if they took him up for the job. The people accepted and he, by playing his flute, enchanted all the rats, who began following him. He took them outside the town and made them drown, thus saving the town. After the initial relief, the people started to doubt the Piper and were asking themselves how could he do this so easily. They refused to pay him while accusing him of having led the rats into town himself just so that he could get money from them when "saving" them, so they chased the man out of town. At night, though, when they were all sleeping, the man, who was enraged because of the mistreatment and lack of gratitude, started to play his flute and attract all the children of the town up from their beds. The kids, hypnotized by the song of his flute, began following him and he disappeared with all the children. When the town's people woke up the next morning, they woke to the realization that all their kids were kidnapped, so the flute, the music, that had saved them at first was also the same one that ruined them as punishment for their wrong behavior. Now apply this knowledge to the song. BTS is saying that it is okay to love and support them and their music, and that said music can help us heal, if we are hurt, but they also say that if we take things too far, if we let ourselves be too obsessed (aka hypnotized, in a sense) and neglect ourselves and our duties, then the effect their music and they have on us turns negative, and therefore they end up "ruining" us. So they encourage us to not let this go there, because there's no need to and we can be both successful in our lives AND enjoy BTS, so we shouldn't view them asking this of us as a punishment, because the punishment of our sins would be being ruined by our obsession.

Who told you this song was a joke?? It’s not really a joke, it’s just that in the fandom, sometimes when ARMYs are spending their time on BTS instead of doing things that are important, like homework or going to school, then we say stuff like “piedpiper is coming for you.” It’s because in this song BTS are scolding ARMYs but in a loving way. They are saying thank you for all the support but at the same time they are telling us not to spend too much time on them and to experience life and follow our dreams because they care about us. They know that they are like “these guys with this hypnotizing flute that makes us follow them” and they wouldn’t wanna “ruin or corrupt us.” Basically, they want us to get our shit together but still support them. That’s why in RMs verse you see him mention twitter and Vapp, a lot of ARMYs spend their time there trying to catch up with BTS and the fandom.

This one is on the relationship between idols and fans, it's expressing gratitude from the idol perspective for all the support - knowing they need the fans for their success, but it's also a warning to the fans to not become so obsessed with idols that you're neglecting your own life. Just like *Go Go* is about having fun and being young but also a warning about spending money foolishly and squandering your youth on nonsense instead of having a direction or a purpose. *Baepsae* is on the conflict between older and younger generations and the richer/poorer classes, like how the older (richer) gen are on the one hand telling youth they need to make more effort to be successful, but at the same time they block that effort because they're trying to maintain the status quo (and their positions in society) by urging people to know their places and not try to go beyond their (socioeconomic or whatever) level. And so on, the songs are like that. BTS is deep, bro.

This song is telling us two things: One the one had they're saying we shouldn't spend all our time and energy on BTS and take care of our real life, school, work, family, friends, etc, but at the same time they're also playing the flute endlessly, because as Jimin says in the end, they literally can't survive without us. BTS are ruining our social lives and we fall behind on our real live responsibilities, which they don't want for us, but they NEED us to keep supporting them 24/7 because if we don't, BTS won't be able to continues as group, since an artist is nothing without their fans.

Since BTS did lure ARMY, so they are like the pied piper. Namjoon verse is a "lovely diss", he is sarcastic sometimes. But the song means more about how they ask us to focus on ourselves rather than spending our whole time to them. Since they did causes addiction, some parents hate the fact that their kids ignore study because of them. Early 2015,in which they start doing complicated MV with lots of theories, many ARMY are very serious to figure out the story plot, hence why Namjoon said "you can analyze the movie later", also the same reason the DNA MV do not have any story plot, so no theories. I dont think this translation was the best because the person just put all the words together without punctuation & that can make it confusing. Anyway this song was written for ARMYs. Theyre aware that we follow their every move and we support them fully, some even drop friends so that they can fully focus on BTS. So theyre reminding us that we should go for our own goals too, they’ll always be there. Study first, do your job first. watch & analyze the MV later etc. Then they say this song is a gift, its not to reject us. So yeah its basically a tough love song. I love it so much coz it actually opened my eyes. I was about to have exams when i listened to the song. Also it was voting season so i was more concentrated on voting for BTS than studying. After i read the lyrics to the song, i deleted my twitter app for that period and only voted when i can. I just got my results and i have all A+.. it feels damn good. Sometimes its good to remind fans that they also have their own lives to live.

I still haven't decided if "flute" is an innuendo or not, but I'm pretty sure that this song is a message to ARMY reminding us that it's about the music not the fandom merch.

In my opinion, the song is here as a reminder to ARMYs that BTS is not the only thing in our life. RM says that he knows we love and are addicted to them 'You already have plenty of my pictures in your room' etc, but that he also wants us to do well for ourselves. They then go on about how they are leading us with flutes, which I see as them saying that they would like us to follow but to know what comes with doing so. By following them we can give them their dreams and have an escape when things get tough for us, but there are also negatives to getting too obsessed, hence the 'I'm here to save you, I'm here to ruin you' . Overall though, the song isn't punishing us, as they say, and just adresses the relationship between us ARMYs and BTS, which is something I have seen few other artists do. This is one of my favourite songs from them.

Its more ironic though RM throws a little humorou shade at fans in his verse and they are little mocking about how they can lead fans around with their music. But its mostly like we know this is not a good thing but we need you guys kind of song to the fans.

Normally I don't comment on KZfaq but I am sure others have told you this. The lyrics here are wrong (not completely correct), I recommend you not to watch lyrics video from that channel, I know that, that person has worked hard on the video but the lyrics are not accurate most of the time. If it comes to BTS lyrics video I recommend you to watch from af taehyung or lynn eksonyeondan these two channels are more accurate with the lyrics. (There are more but I just prefer to watch from these 2 channels) The only recommendation I have for you to watch is a show called Rookie King. This was a show that BTS was on back in 2013, I think a way to get to know them better is to watch them from the start.
