top five reasons to carry a traditional pocket knife but there are only four knives on the table. My top five 1. unassuming, cops aren't going to have a cow over it! 2. practical and just drops in the pocket 3.often have multiple blades and/or tools 4.looks cool and has so many finishes and patterns 5.Just fun and are my personal preference Leg knives were being made in Germany as early as 1820, possible earlier. Which is odd as the crown cork or bottle cap was invented in 1892! The early leg knives did not have a prominent heel on the boot and so were not designed to do anything. It wasn't until around WWI that somebody got the brilliant idea to take an ugly knife and at least make it functional by adding a heel to the boot that could open a beer bottle! The Stockman or Cattle knives were first made for the U.S. market by George Wostenholm (I*XL - Sheffield England) soon after the Civil War and quickly became the most popular pattern in America. The patterned standardized on the spear blade, sheepfoot and spay but later the spear was replaced by the clip. Love the RR twenty year shield. The canoe is one of the my favorites. 23 years for the Rough Riders. The handle is just made for the pocket! That GEC/Northfield is awesome and totally worth the $102! Love the description of the Copperhead. I've heard that secondary blade described as a straight blade or a skinning blade. I prefer a copperhead with a secondary pen blade. I also love Case's baby copperhead. It was good enough for Grandpa! Love it! After the American Civil War, they came out with a variety of pocket knife designs that had blades that could be opened with one hand. Some say it was because of all of the soldiers who lost and arm in "The Late Unpleasantness". But if that is the case, then why did they also have a blade that needed two hands to open? Maybe a future episode on small knives and why to carry them (traditional or modern)

Knife Chats with Tobias clip blade is best. I like other styles, buy ya need to pierce all the time. Not every time. Fri i got the gerber Edict! Love love love it. I never ever ever buy benchmsde bugout or p2 spydie. I own a Tebacious, its gd to go. Edict is my all time fav edc. Nx knife is buck112, S30, g~10scales. When Ganzo uses S30 or 154, ben an spydie gonna lose tons ov sales. Prolly sell fa$40,45bucks!! Epic. Cant wait🔪🔪🇺🇸👊

The knife ive carried most is a medium case stockman with brown plastic handles. Been carrying a knife sincs 4th grade and I'm 76. I live by rule 9: Never go anywhere without a knife.

There's a reason Case has been around for 100+ years. My grandpa, my dad, and my uncles have always carried traditional folders, primarily Case and I love them. I just got my first one about 5 years ago from a guy I consider to be my uncle, and he got it around 2008 and it's still working just fine. It's been through it all and I can't wait to get some more. I also live by the rule, never leave home without a knife. That's something I was taught early on

LOVE this ep32! I am and I will always be a "Traditional Pocketknife Guy" been carry'n them for almost 50 years. My EDC type is 4 1/8" Trapper and my brands are Case, Bear and Son, Boker, Rough Rider.

Love that Buckshot! But the Leg Knife is gorgeous! How can you pick one of these four as a favorite! Beer barrel handle is out of this world! Case is my go to brand, have Rough Riders, Real Steel, and many more... The best reasons to carry a pocket knife is ..... #5 Cause I have a pocket!...#4 I can clean the dirt out from under my fingernails... #3 Just like your shoes, you can change your knife to match your clothes or even your shoes. #2 You can't play Chicken with anything else except a pocket knife! That's the rules of the game!!! #1 My mom said I could and should always carry a knife and that's the best reason for me!!!! I want them all because I have shoes that will match all 4 knives! Thanks guys! Love y'all bunches!

I use fixed blade knives for cleaning animals and filleting fish and I use traditional folding knives for everyday cutting uses. When I'm at work I use work knives and leave my cool knives in my pockets. If I don't have a knife available I have plenty of metal and grinders available to use

Reason nr 6: Blade geometry. I have too many modern knives with supersteels, some cut well others not so much. But always love these traditional knives, despite inferior steels at least they slice and cut amazingly.

Agree with everything said except i wouldn't call the steel inferior... i really like that you can sharpen a Case CV or a SAK if in a pinch on coffee mug bottom to get a fully functional edge, that wouldn't happen with K390 or 20cv.... yet they all get dull with one cut into the wrong stuff.

The knife with the small hook at the end was designed for soldiers after the war that were missing one arm. They could open the knife one handed by catching it at the corner of their jean’s pocket.

My G/pa always caried a Congress & Wud sa ve one blade 4 emergency use ! REst were used 4 cleaning his pipe out, finger one & one 2 cut bale string with. & the one 4 emergency cuts. Good Memory 4me TY alot 4 that !! Me carry a ole Trapper knife ;)

Never carried anything other than a trad pocket knife, I'm 51. All we knew is that these Were pocket knives. Not trad. Never felt a need for anything else, if I need more knife then it's straight to my Grohmann #2 fixed blade. In this day and age most of us do much less cutting, but most of our time carrying. So a peanut in pocket is perfect for opening packages, slicing cardboard, digging out splinters etc daily. As I mentioned, we spend most of our time carrying, and only occasionally actually Need to slice something. It might as well be small but capable imo.

My favorite pocketknife is the Case Seahorse Whittler, I'm all about that wharncliffe blade. Speaking of which... what's the entomology of wharncliffe? Sheepsfoot makes sense given the shape but what the heck is a wharncliffe? Other than the most awesome blade shape ever that is! Seriously, I may need help over this wharncliffe obsession, but I digress!

According to some Sources the blade can be traced back to Lord Wharncliffe, a Sheffield Cutler who's descendants were also involved in Britian's Railroads. They were looking for a stout heavy blade with the straight cutting edge and the Wharncliffe blade was the end results. It started showing up in England some time around 1830-50. Of course the same blade is popular for letter openers so go figure!

I love my traditional Pocket Knives. I always carry 2-3 Every day, The Sunfish, Congress and trapper. I got my made in China Nah attitude adjusted when my friend challenge me to try out the Rough Ryder brand. Extremely well made Knives especially at their price point. This are inexpensive Knives especially when you're not sure if you'll like a style of Knife. Rough Ryder Knives are cheap price workhorses that if you lose it, you you're not stressed out. Unlike if you lose a $200 Case. Thanks for your videos

Loved your chat! Your choice mirrors my little US-trad lineup with my Northfield Sambar Stag Slimline Trapper, RR Buckshot Bone Teardrop Jack (awesome - such a hoot!), RR Canoe Amber Jigged Bone, Case Burnt Indigo Stockman, and the utterly beautiful Case Tribal Lock Smooth Antique Bone. I wish these (particularly the GECs) were easier to obtain here in the UK, but I suppose it just makes me appreciate them all the more. A word about the Lady Leg - this would have had rather more than mere 'novelty' value in the Victorian era, when a lady's exposed ankle (let alone calf) was the equivalent of today's soft(ish) porn. Thus, it would have been regarded as a piece of shameless erotica, presumably used by its owner as a visual aid to acts of wilful self-abuse which would have rapidly rendered him blind and doomed his soul to everlasting damnation. Like you said - a piece of history in your pocket!

I always carry at least 2 knives when I'm out, a larger tactical folder of some sort and a small Buck stockman. The tactical folder is never seen unless I need it. The stockman is the knife I use most. Its extremely sharp, well built, relatively inexpensive, & due to the smaller size, the non knife people don't feel threatened by it. Also, theres something kind of elegant & easy going opening & closing a traditional knife.

There are so manu dfferent patterns i find it hard to carry just one type. I find myself switching between a cass full trapper or large stockman to a canoe and even a boker congress knife. I love the choices in the patterns and handle materials and colors. Slip joint knives are the way to go.

Back in the early 80s I worked in a textile plant we had to have a pocket knife for our job. One the guys I worked with lost his right hand on a visit to your store I picked up 1 of the knife's with the half Moon on the end of the blade for him as a gift. It was made by frost & called a one arm Bandit if I'm not mistaken
