Looking at the old artwork of Striking scorpions, it's a shame they don't have at least one mini in the classic scorpion crouch stance.

The lazy rock obsession really needs to go. If 3rd party people in their garage can make models without needing rock feet GW can do it.

if there was a unit that should be crouching, kneeling, and static, it should be the scorpions.

Here’s my take: if they did 5 different running and crouching poses, people would complain about monopose and duplicate poses. By doing 5 less dynamic poses the duplications are less obvious. Also, the howling banshees are really annoying if you want to change their bases and not have them jumping off eldar ruins. So I’m perfectly happy with how they’ve done these. The tactical rocks though… they need to go!

I'm just happy they didn't touch the designs and it's just Scorpions but crisp, like the other new Aspect Warriors we've seen so far. I've already agreed to split the box with someone because I don't have Scorpions bar one metallic Exarch. As for poses, perhaps Karandras will have the iconic Striking Scorpion crouch. Hopefully without, but likely with a Tactical Rock that'll rival that of Chapter Master Shrike.

They are secretly previewing 'codex tactical rocks'... To be fair I like these, suitable for conversion work without being so 'dynamic' that every army has the same 5 poses.

What i dont understand is that most of them seem to be shooting or aiming with the pistols except for the exarch. Are they going to be a shooty Aspect now with a lil bit of melee or..? It is kinda sad that comparing them with the Storm Guardians. The sculpt is nice but no one of them seem to be striking. When people say they do not want changes usually mean to the helmets or design, not monopose+static. I mean... I also have Chaos Space Marines. Have you seen them with the swords? Far more options and poses. Some launching foward, some pointing the gun foward, some with the weapon down... So yeah. A lil bit dissapointed.

Hurr durr, they are way too static, because they'll literally stand perfectly still for days and weeks. I do agree though.

I disagree that the current sculpts look less dynamic than, say, Guardians, but ultimately that's an aesthetic opinion. Which doesn't mean either of us are "right," it just means that we like different things. Tactical Rocks are there for a reason, though. The Storm Guardian that you showed is *barely* attached to the base. If you drop that figure, there's a lot of force going to go through both that join *and* through the figure's ankle. I'm terrified of dropping that specific figure. This is, of course, much less of a problem with a 21st century plastic mini than it was with a 19th century actually-made-from-tin soldier, because the plastic is so much lighter and thus has much less momentum when it falls - but if you want anything more complex than an A-pose or a simple stride, and you want also both feet securely attached to the base, you need the figure standing on something. Which is why tactical rocks date back to the mid 1800s. Anyway - if you think these poses lack dynamism, imagine what you would be dealing with if they *didn't* have tactical rocks! And for me, I want my tactical rocks to be small and unobtrusive. I will never buy that Howling Bansee Exarch because her tactical ruin looks ridiculous. It would be cool in diorama - but on a gaming table, I'm always "wait, why is the ruin moving around!?" Again, this is an opinion, not a fact - but *for me* the Scorpions are much more appealing and attractive. The only one I'm not quite okay with is the one you like! I might actually sand off the detail on that one if I actually get these. I also like the poses. I've always associated Striking Scorpians with British Riflemen in the Peninsular War. Both groups fill specialist roles in the army; they are skirmishers and scouts that move in front of the main force, gathering information and screening the main body from enemy skirmishers. Both are perceived as elites. And both wear green in armies where *no-one* else wears green. Given that the Sharpe TV series would have been airing around the time the original Scorpions were created, I'm personally convinced that the designers had this at least partly in their heads. And the new poses just reinforce that. The mid-1800s was the last time anyone seriously fought with swords and pistols, and the poses on these models really, really feel like what you see in period painting, manuscripts, and drill manuals. In other words - to my eye, the Banshees are over-the-top and the Scorpions are real-ish and plausible. (I don't say "realistic," because they're still space elves using chainsaws and ninja-guns, but they have an "air" of reality to them that other figures lack.) I do agree with the poster below, though, who wanted a classing crouching pose. That would've been cool. I use GW figure anything but 40K because I don't enjoy the rules, but I like the figures. That also lets me go off in my own direction lore-wise, and my Eldar figures are essentially mechanized infantry. So I hadn't planned on including any Scorpions. But now that these are out - I like the look enough that I think I need to find an excuse to buy some, once they're available without also getting a bunch of Space Marine scouts I don't want.

And here I was expecting indepth coverage of the scouts on an eldar channel :^)

Striking Scorpions are more heavily armoured and so that explains why they don't have the same acrobatic poses as other Eldar.

I think perhaps the bases would look less stupid with some large grass or jungle plant or something.

I'm going to buy a box, maybe find some Imperial Guard or Space Marine heads, arms and legs to stick on the bases... 😈

I hate those rocks attached to minis. I want to paint my bases separately from the models, but this way it makes it difficult

The GW team need to hire actors and warriors to help inform their poses. I'm making these scorpions right now and too many of them have got their torso twisted in a knot, which is horrible for fighting. Half of their weapons are posed in a below ready stance, meaning they will have to raise their weapon before they can even strike. I understand that there are limitations and time constraints but I feel like the creativity needs to be backed up by some kind of inspiration or research because I've got a bunch of aspect warriors standing on rocks in awkward positions.

I have the old models just in my hands right now and I can say that I prefer the old ones design wise...

The bigger the rock, the more important the character.

Are there any powers hinted at? They should at least be as stealthy as Ork kommandos

I found the same problem.. the models look more plain and less dinamic than the old ones, not that Im not gona buy them, but maybe not now or even 1 or 2 years...

They’re a 5/10. All of mine are still metal, so I’ll buy them. But they’re not great. Still cautiously optimistic about the rest of the range when it drops. But they better have more effort put in.

I actually like they put tactical rocks under the feet of models with small footprints. it's easier to glue on the base without worrying about breaking off if I accidentaly drop the mini. I use basing paste to cover up all sculpted terrain anyway, so if there's any tactical rocks, my base just ends up looking like uneven ground.

Thank you for the comparison with the older metal models from rough trader/2nd Ed and 3rd ed. My 3rd ed crouching metal scorpions were a pain to keep standing and had to have a coin glued to the underside of the base for stability. Plus their arms fell off over time. Dynamic posses are a pain. The new sculpts look 2-3 years old. Like GW forgot to release them for 9th Ed.

I converted the new guardians with 3d printed heads chainswords and some green stuff to make some cool scorpions. I’m not sure I’ll be getting the new kit. However, definitely worth a purchase if you don’t have squad at all.

I like how unmasked version face is just yelling. Stealth aspect indeed. Also, im not really a fan of how new Aspect warriors look, they are very minimalistic in terms of additional features and poses, Shining spear is basically just a dude with spear on regular windrider jet bike, no additional runes or ornaments like Warlock/Farseer Skyrunner has, Dark Reapers lost their ornament from power pack and exarch’s Shoulder skull is just now a very meh plate

I disagree, Scorps are heavier stealth infantry and should be more static than both Banshees and Guardians who are wearing lighter armour. Also the fact that each is standing on a rock is due to the way the Eavy Metal team has painted up the bases in the new kill team style where a lot of it looks like asphalt. By the time most people get them and apply flock and tufts to their bases they will look like they are in cover and it won't be noticeable. When Karandras comes out, he/she should get the classic crouching pose, hopefully in the style of the the Mark Gibbons artwork

Finally took the plunge and 6 months ago bought failcast striking scorps- now they release them in plastic. I am actually done. Fuck this.

I'm going to hold my judgement until I get the kit in my hands. Then I'll see if I can work magic with them or not. Hopefully they are really modular and not locked into which arms and such each torso can take, with set directions for looking, etc. Minor amounts of that I can work around but some kits GW makes are a pain for dynamic and varied (not in the modeling directions) posing. Maybe we'll get lucky and there will be some new weapon options or a better datasheet.

I am also curious why there is no female torso for the striking scorpions, I understand why originally but there is a lot more girls in warhammer now and eldar is very popular with girls. There is also lore supporting the idea of both male and female scorpions.

For me, this kit has been needed for a decade now and it’s just disappointing that this is what we got. The kit lacks character. It looks like it was built with the same limitations of a metal cast. We shouldn’t praise GW just for bringing out a kit we wanted in plastic. It’s made worse by the 5 leg poses you get being so static so it’s going to look even more blade across a 10-man unit. I also don’t mind reposing, but reposing Eldar is much trickier than say Space marines. I do prefer thicker armoured scorpions I think 😂 As you said, they are supposed to be hunters from the shadows. So have some crouching and hidden, some emerging to charge in, not all of them stood upright pointing pistol forward with chainsword held back. When a 3rd party (Artel) has more imagination than your design team, there is a serious problem. Also none of the faces look “lady elf” - scorpions are a mixed sex aspect (well even banshees have one or two males in the order) Yeah, I probably pick up 5 for an attempt to improve them….but these aren’t going to be having me clamouring for them - which is really sad to think about.

Totally fine with their sculpts except I wish more aspect warriors had one or two women in the squad. Sadly it seems they will all be remade exactly as they were drawn. Rip lady spiders

Every time GW produces a new eldar unit the gods fleps a coin, on one side you get an interesting good looking model that catch the esence of eldarness, on the other side you get a bland models from someone than clearly doesn't love the lore of the eldar and is just doing a paid job. Really sad for this missed oportunity.

Personally, I think GW are missing an opportunity with all the Aspects, if I were doing it I'd be expanding the lore for all the Shrines and giving them new units like "Shrinekeepers" (the most experienced of the Aspect Warriors who tend and keep the shrines while the newer devotee's train during peace time and in battle are all armed with specialist weapons like Biting Blades, Executioners, Dragon breath flamers etc), units of just 3 to 5 Exarchs who are tasked with destroying the high value targets and have new weapon options of weapons only the most highly skilled Exarchs can use and a "Hierarch" a HQ unit that's basically the Autarch for that individual Shrine. Imagine this list for Dire Avengers Shrines. HQ Avenger Hierach armed with Shuriken Cannon, Shimmer Shield and Direblade (selection of this unit allows player to take Avenger Shrine Keepers, Avenger Exarch squads and makes normal Dire Avenger squads battle line.) 1 to 3 Squads of Avenger Shrine Keepers, all armed with Shimmer Shields and Powerglaives 1 to 3 Squad of Avenger Exarchs, all armed with Dual Avenger Catapults, or one Shuriken Cannon 3+ squads of Dire Avengers, Enermy Faction Leader "Ermmm, what's going on? Did the entire Avenger Aspect Shrine for that Craftworld just mobilise for war? Please tell me they don't have anti infantry Falcons loaded up with 5 Shuriken Cannons. No I'm serious, there's no such thing as a Dire Avenger Falcon right? We have checked this isn't a thing haven't we?"

At the beginning of the video i thought that this would be a video just critizing the models becaue they dont look supremly epic, however the comparissons with the old models and the relization that every singel model has their own tactical rock to stand own has soured my opinion on the models.

To me the new Striking Scorpions are perfect and I'm really excited to get some! 🎉 But I am a Biel-Tan man, so I'm a glass half full kind of guy! 😂

'A Missed Opportunity' could be the title of a book about all the decisions Games Workshop has made about every aspect of their business for the last 3-4 years to be honest. Especially with Kill Team imo. The game is great and for me personally one of the best things Games Workshop has right now but with things like the 2nd season boxes all with the same terrain, no Genestealer kill team on a Space Hulk themed season, the new one not being finally based on a jungle terrain (and with no Catachan kill team)... I could keep going 😢

I dont mind the rocks. They give me the opportunity to make more interesting bases. And they are an updated plastic version of the old striking scorpions... Agree boring poses. I just spent i dont know how much time and money to make my 30 last generation scorpions... i might wait to buy these XD

Overall I feel like these are decent. They're alright, and I'm 99% sure I will be getting some, but my main gripes are the following: 1: The poses aren't all that dynamic. Eldar are a preposterously athletic and graceful according to the lore, yet even these brand new models just sort of stand there. ArtelW has scorpions that have a crouched sculpt, a sprinting one, one that looks to be mid charge about to swing his chainsword at someone... GW, a company with VASTLY more resources could only come up with tactical rocks? Really? No dynamic movement at all? The scouts have more dynamic poses than the Eldar here, which is a telling sign that they really didn't put all that much effort into these at all. I remember an art piece in the third edition codex of a Scorpion perched atop a pile of skulls, hunched over, chainblade and Shuriken pistol held at menacing angles, surely something inspired by that would be possible to make in plastic nowadays? 2: Where's the women? This is a very minor gripe of mine, but I do feel it matters. I'm not as deep into the lore as some, but I know a fair bit, and as far as I know the only "gender-locked" Aspect shrine is the Banshees, right? In this day and age of equal representation, the Eldar are by far the faction where they can achieve this beautifully and not raise any eyebrows for "shoehorning in" women "where they don't belong". Male and female Eldar Physiology differs very little, and almost nothing is seen as solely the field of one gender over the other to them. Why not have a torso in here that's recognizable as female?

The reason eldar don't get more models is because they are perfect already...

I still like the original 2nd edition version the best. These are the best since then, by far. Although a few stalking poses would have been appreciated.

I think SC are good, but I hope there is way to make their pose more dynamic, I aren't bothered by tactical rocks. Anyway, listening to recent Valrak video about stuff to come in 2nd wave of Eldar in 10th, I'm quite excited for future releases, feels good to have nearly everything Aspect related in plastic. He is 95% correct with his sources, with Eldar he was the first to tell us Scorpions and Scouts KT is coming few monthes ago, so with previous rumours of big eldar wave it all makes sense

Tactical rock whining instantly makes every one of your points moot: They're done to make the models less static, because as strange as it is a battlefield is not going to be a 100% flat plane, especially for the Aspect warriors designed to go through dense terrain to do ambush attacks.

Speaking of disappointing aspect warriors, I really don't like the new Banshee helmets. They look like a skinny conehead space marine helmet with the old inverted triangle mouth. Really wish they kept the previous helmet design.

I think they look good. Im glad i don't have to buy artel. Something felt wrong about using artel models so I only got one unit of dragons, s corpions, and their respective Phoenix lords and they were expensive at the time. I kind of like the rock since it'll make them easier to glue to the base which is a problem with artel

I like the new poses well enough - they look more defensive stalking style, and the design stayed more faithful to the 4th edition sculpts instead of going back to the older designs, which I was concerned about. Overall, it's pretty okay. BUTT. There is no excuse for the Exarch having a baking mitt for a Scorpion claw. I am VERY displeased with that goofy thumb sticking out like that.

To be honest with the amount of backlash they get everytime they drastically change anything or stray far from nostalgia. Now i love painting dramatically posed units on tactical rocks and it looks cool on an individual level but it is funny in a unit if you think realistically level especially if you care more about game play and not so much on the hobby art side. I do not mind heros and team leaders getting dramatic posed with a tactical rock but come on every unit. To be fair we are just seeing there generic and limited pose and people are probably going to put there own spin on everything. You can get that much from just pictures with out seeing the sprue options as well.

This video makes me even bitter, the guardian/scorpion comparison hurt .. exact same armor 😢 when you read the books, they r supposed to be the finest crafted by eldars, made of scales and a lot of details etc .. not just Green guardians copycat 😢😢😢 Karandras has to be EXTREMELY beautiful to make me buy those guys sadly.

A lot of GW's 10e releases feel off? They feel like they lost all the creative designers and now are copying everyone else's poses for the silhouette and then copypaste 3D assets around, IDK if that holds for everything but it feels weird to me

They look awful. The posing is so off. I'm pretty sure they have been posed by someone who doesn't more around a lot. I have seen some epic 3rd party alternatives ❤ that actually look like they're stealthily creeping through the undergrowth, rather than posing on rocks like Derek Zoolander. I would totally kit bash a unit of these guys from storm guardian bits.
