as much as i hate Miracle Day as a series, this was one of the greatest scenes in Torchwood, they're so brutally honest with each other

The raw emotion of the two of them , Just shows how everything came together over the series and matured , I love Torchwood from start to finish

I love the mutual respect they have that they are willing to do whatever it takes to save their own (Gwen with her daughter and Jack with his mortality), even if it means hurting each other

I've seen some fans misinterpret Gwen's speech about "feeling special". They see it as her not caring about her colleagues she lost or her thinking she is better than them because she lived. But this isn't true. What's brilliant about her speech is what isn't said but implied. And what it tells us about Gwen's psyche and emotional journey. This scene is all about trauma, and grief. In particular, Gwen's. (Sorry, this turned into an essay DX). Gwen's psyche is similar in many ways to what soldiers deal with after war. She has PTSD and survivor's guilt. While she didn't go to war, her secret life with Torchwood was like living in another world. And one that meant she saw many horrible and crazy things which shattered her world view and traumatised her many times over. But then she couldn't share these experiences with anyone outside of her work. And she struggled to connect to "normal" life because her mind was always in that world of danger, ready for action. Rhys getting involved helps that, as does her colleagues to a degree. But then she loses everyone and everything almost. All her colleagues, who are like a second family, all die in horrific ways, or leave. And her job is blown up, literally. Suddenly she has the grief of losing three people who are like family to her, and who are the only ones who truly understood her experiences. And she loses the job. The job she gave so much up for, and which she loved and lived for in so many ways, despite the harm it caused her. For the reasons she mentions. The satisfaction and purpose it gave her life. The thrill. The discovery. The intense comradery. Things you only get to experience in a job like hers, or in a similarly intense environment, like a warzone. And suddenly she is meant to just adjust to normal life again and forget it ever happened. At the start of season 4, it's clear she can't just go back to normal. Which fits with everything she's been through. Then there's the survivor's guilt. How do you cope with being the one who is left behind? The one who got to live. All the grief. The immense guilt of being the survivor. Of wondering why you survived and whether it was an act of fate, or if all that pain and loss is just senseless and random. And Gwen's way of coping is to try and go the fate route. She can't handle the idea of all the deaths she's seen, including her friends, being random and senseless. So she imagines that she was somehow "special" in that she was allowed to live instead of her friends because she still had some bigger purpose. That allows her to give some meaning to the immense grief and guilt she is left with. If her friends died so she could go onto to play a role in a greater purpose, then their deaths aren't senseless anymore. And she doesn't have to feel overwhelming guilt for living her life without them. Basically, this scene is an amazing study of Gwen and her character journey.

Yet another fantastic moment from Miracle Day... It’s almost like MD isn’t actually nearly as bad as the Torchwood diehards who like to hate on it insist it is... HMMM...

The love between these two is phenomenal. She never would've let him die.

I hoped to see the jack n angelo love scene but dont think KZfaq would allow it but loved this episode best out of the whole series to be honest ❤️
