The Gypsy Rose, a 1964 Chevy Impala, is a wheeled masterwork that came to symbolize and define a movement born in Southern California’s barrios.

I'm a white guy in my 70's from the east coast. I remember seeing pictures of the 64 Gypsy Rose. I had a '70 Camaro I was trying to transform into a low rider after seeing pictures of Gypsy Rose. I never quite got it finished but my intentions were good. I've seen a lot of very cool custom cars in my lifetime but Gypsy Rose will always be my favorite. There needs to be a statue of Jesse Valadez. My respects to the Valadez family. God bless you Jesse. My God hold you in His tender loving arms.

I saw this car in DC when they had it displayed in a glass case on the national mall last summer. Local Lowrider clubs from all over the mid atlantic came here to see the car. I had heard of the car before from reading lowrider mag growing up but I never thought that I would see it. I feel privileged to have seen this car in person.

FuckYourFeelings I was heading down the wrong path until I made the decision to no longer run in the streets, I bought my first ever lowrider magazine this year, ever since I watched this video I became a lowrider, my dad had an 84 Cutlass, it was for gang banging though, and I also want to buy an 84 Cutlass but I'll have a Lowrider for the culture not for any other reason

Love that it gets recognized by the LOC. Awesome story and culture. I think it's idea and translation gets reflected into other areas of automobile modification like springs, coilovers, and airbags and might reflect the genesis of the modern day car culture. Not quite as specific, but certainly just as passionate in some cases.

I remember as a kid in the late 90s flipping through lowrider magazine and seeing these badass lowriders. And then seeing a few of the Imperials in person at the scraping tour in 2000.

Lowriders bring alot of positivity to themselves and to the community it also brings people together and seeing a groupe of lowriders crusing the streets is like a free car show.the rose impala was one of the first lowriders I ever seen in a magazine that was 13 years ago I don't have a lowrider myself but I will always want one a 64 rag or a 57 rag or a bomb can only have zenith or Dayton wheels but all lowriders are beautiful in their own ways

Nice to see this, Jessie jr. Is a really nice guy and really takes ownership of his role in the lowrider community. I actually met him in Vegas at a restaurant, he was there for a big lowrider show and I was there for a carshow as well (Supras in Vagas). We started talking in the line, joking about and this guy had people coming up to him giving him props, I found a table place was full Invited Jessie and friend or family to sit but they found someone that saved them a table. He and his friend called me over; I was alone so they invited me to have dinner with them. While eating people still came up to him to sign all kinds of merchandise, so I asked him if he was famous he said sort of. So we started talking about L.A., Supras and Lowriders over Tacos. Cool guy!

I’m going to be honest I only knew of the 1964 Impala version of Gypsy Rose only because of people recreating I’m in the racing games I play. Never knew the inspirational story and man behind the car. Needless to say I’m glad to have been able learn about its history and the ending with Mr. Valadez’s passing made me tear up just from the wonderful things and memories everyone had about him. A truly inspirational figure
