Still wouldn't compete. The only fair thing is 250 is 250 no matter how many strokes you have. Make the 450 the "open" class. Its time!

when i was a kid i was 6" taller than other kids and had 30 lbs on them. We did this same thing to my big wheel 85, had it bored to 115cc and it leveled the playing field. i wasnt any faster than the other kids, just finally AS FAST. when we jumped to 125's i was a lot faster and it tooik the other kids a while to get used to the bigger bike, i was already ripping.

We have a ported YZ144 , when its pinned you can tell straight away its a big bore , much deeper sound , sounds fucking amazing and goes hard!!

It wasn't cheating, it was a protest against AMA stupidity for giving the four strokes twice the cc (250) than the 125. I am curious as to whether that was really just bored or was it also stroked to get it to the 170 cc mark. Interesting that the Max Power RPM big bore kits for the YZ125 include a 167 bore and stroke kit that would turn the 125 into a 250f killer.

a 2 stroke engine makes power on both strokes, 4 strokes have an on and off cycle with ignition. they only fire every other revolution. a 125cc two stroke that fires every cycle makes the same power as a 250 four stroke that only fires every other cycle. does it make sense now?

@@Mp-jw1qg Point taken, but it didn't need to be twice the displacement, 1.5 would have been enough. That is what Yamaha figured when they drew up and developed the YZ400F which calculated 250 x 1.5 which came out to 400 and held its own against the 250 two strokes. If you divide 250 by 1.5 you end up with a about a 167 (Max Power kit). Take 450 and divide by 1.5 and you end up with 300 (KTM 300 SX-F).

@@henricusrealms8411 but then your penalizing the guys that made 4s that good and giving it to the 2s guys that haven't developed their platforms as far. Mechanically 2xs is fair both have the potential to make the same power (actually 2s can get over 100% ve pretty easy at certain rpm so abit more is possible). It's just lack of development work for the last 20yrs. Plenty was done before that in GP to put it well ahead if the drive was there. The addition of DI makes the tq curves flatter too.

@@Mp-jw1qg No, you can't dumb it down like that. 2 strokes are low compression and inefficient and have to be by design. If they could actually use their displacement as efficiently as a 4T, a 250 2T would be a 90hp bike. At the same displacement, a 2T only makes about 30% more power, not 100% more.

I cheated in 03 on a RM 139 Rick Peterson big bore Still came nowhere lol but the bike caused some shit in the over 30 class ...The bike was really good, I think the race fuel and a fatty getting holies gave it away 🤔 good times.

@Evan Burke Bubba's bike was getting torn down every weekend for inspection. I think it is or was automatic if you made the podium. He was just that fast.

These days the factory teams have thousands in parts on their bikes and ecus tuned to the max, don’t think a big bore would make a hell of a difference. Love that you can still claim bikes at certain races

I been wanting a four stroke ride and thought about 250s. That 350 would have me sold. be ideal to snag then probably trade my 250 2smoke for a 125.

Get the Cylinder Works 270 kit onto a 2020 YZ250F and take it to Twisted. Look up the builds on youtube it feels like a 350 on bottom end.

I remember the 2012 AMA Supersport (roadracing) Laguna Seca round. I was a nobody just trying to qualify and I was way down on lap times from the fast guys but my top speed numbers were at the top or near the top every practice thanks to an illegal engine built for me by a well known tuner in LA (known for building "special" superbike engines). Anyway, I qualified and finished the race and had a great time. I was an old dude, way older than these kids and I had a full time job (Air Force fighter pilot). There are always great stories from the back of the pack privateers, I love this story from Kris. Oh, and of course my boss didn't know I was racing and never would have been allowed to as a fighter pilot. Here I was on TV racing bikes and nobody at work knew!
