Airbus Helicopters has performed the first firing demo of the Spike ER2 missile from an H145M helicopter at an event organised at the Cincu firing range in Brasov, Romania.
The demonstration followed a successful de-risking phase performed earlier this year.
The event was supported by the Romanian Ministry of Defence and held in cooperation with the Romanian Special Forces which took part in the exercise.
The exercise consisted in simulating the close air support provided to ground based special operation forces which were sent to release a hostage held by enemy forces. This sensitive mission was articulated in three phases, the infiltration, the assault supported by helicopters and the exfiltration.
During the operation the deployed special forces team was attacked by fire from enemy armored vehicles. This required the engagement of the H145M attack helicopters equipped with HForce and anti-tank missiles. Their goal was to neutralize the enemy's forces and allow the hostage exfiltration up to the secured forward operating base.
