@@lessismore8533ok I agree with this. But I feel like Cleo breaking up with him was for a deeper reason than “feeling smothered”. Her parents had just divorced, and then the upgrade in her powers, she lost the sense of normalcy due to all the change. She probably felt like her stability and security were being threatened, and she wanted to get her life together. And she felt that she needed to fix her life before she could be in a happy relationship. Therefore she broke her relationship off so she could figure it out.

That was plain cruel on Cleo's part. After everything he's done for her, and Rikki and Emma, for so long. Always looking out for them, protecting their secret from the very beginning and caring for them. Dropping everything to help them when they ask and just generally doing everything in his power to help them and support them. He IS one of them (just without the tail)! That comment must have hurt so much and it made me feel like the girls don't appreciate him nearly enough and just use him for their own need. I mean come on the effort he went to, to make the girls 1 year anniversary as mermaids special was sooo sweet. I appreciate he went a little overboard with his help in this episode because he just wanted to make everything better. He might have gone about things the wrong way but his heart was always in the right place. I appreciate Cleo is a teenager and her parents divorcing had a massive impact on her but she should have just asked Lewis for space but she went completely the other way and broke up with him.

She should have talked to him to be less protective and if he really loved her then he would listen to her. The girls are also very ungrateful. They're acting like they're the only ones who are suffering from this mermaid thing while Lewis is literally trying to figure out everything. They also call him first if something goes wrong.

Yeah it's weird cos obviously Lewis was being smothering and annoyingly clingy but the girls just needed to calmly ask him to back off a little by saying they appreciated his help but didn't need him to be over the top. Cleo needed to say the same thing, that she cared for him but didn't want an overly smothering boyfriend. There's a way to calmly tell people to back down. I guess we also forget they're all supposed to be 16 so not very emotionally mature but they all look 20 so it's hard to make sense of when it looks like adults being ridiculously immature 😅

I used to definitely agree, and I was prepared to get mad at Cleo all over again when rewatching, but this was the first time i noticed the amount of emotional turmoil Cleo was going through in this episode/season, and It wasn’t just because of Lewis. She mentioned her parents split when breaking up with him, which might’ve been the main cause for her hurt and moodiness this season. May have even reshaped what she thought about relationships. In the last season, her parents were always together, and now they aren’t. Maybe Cleo associated too much closeness with splitting up. On top of that, she could no longer control her powers, and Lewis was doing everything for her and wasn’t allowing her to be independent. Although Lewis is a sweetheart with good intentions, he was suffocating her. Some people just need some space when they are going through so much stress. Cleo didn’t need to break up with him for it… but sometimes when we are having a hard time, maybe even depressed, we may not even know ourselves and why we are acting the way we are. She needed to just communicate that she needed space, but because she’s a teenager who doesn’t quite know herself or her emotions yet, it was easy for her to not communicate her feelings correctly and to eventually regret her actions.
