On this Episode, Marque Cornblatt and the team puts the airframe prototype through a torture test. The airframe will face flying through fire and glass windows, free-fall drops from hundreds of feet and will even face down a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with heavy dove ammo. Does this drone airframe have what it takes to survive?

I should mention that shotgun experiment is comparable to shooting at a car's hood, replacing the damaged components in the engine bay and then concluding the car itself is indestructible.
@MarqueCornblatt
@MarqueCornblatt 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments. To be fair, if you consider the scale of your comparison in terms of mass/speed/ and other forces of ballistics, it's more akin to shooting a car hood with an A10 Warthog and being able to drive away with minor repairs. And that would be the world's most indestructible car. Thanks for watching and share the links.
@Jabbasaur
@Jabbasaur 10 жыл бұрын
Nobody wants to go find a drone so they can perform these minor repairs though, especially not if there's a nutter with a shotgun lurking somewhere nearby. Surely this will end up giving a lot of drones to the enemy that they can then perform "minor repairs" on, replace the transmitter crystal and then use against you?

Today I tried to shoot it with a 85 mm cannon, Ha only the half of the car went bust, so I changed that with new parts we bought.... Now its working again indestructible like you drone..

Doesn't matter if it's a .410, there are butt stocks for a reason. Pistol grips are for firing from the hip, like breaching a door or close in fighting. By using that shotgun that way, you're setting an example of something that's very unsafe.

Nice job using a shotgun without a proper chock. If it can't be used for skeet shooting obviously it won't be good for shooting down a drone. Also the shot load plays a big role. Sorry, but against a proper shotgun it would be destroyed.
@MarqueCornblatt
@MarqueCornblatt 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments. As you can see, I also know a little about guns, and this shotty in particular. I find it amusing how the people who miss the point of this airframe test are always people who insist there is a bigger gun or better ammo load. The point is that this airframe can not be destroyed by any means that a drone would likely encounter. Most airframeswould have been destroyed in the first 15 seconds of this clip. My airframe has been surviving this abuse for over 3 years. Thx again and share the links! Guns & Gardens Ep. 13: Mossberg 500 Ballistic Test

Marque Cornblatt Prod. I thought the purpose of the test would be to see if the drone could withstand being shot at be angry Americans who don't want drones over their head. My apologies if that wasn't the point of shooting at it with a shotgun, and thank you for admitting you didn't REALLY try shooting it down with a shotgun designed for shooting things from the air.

bulbinking The purpose of the entire video is to show how reliable our airframe is against damage and abuse - well beyond what would be expected while flying a drone. I don't even see any damage. There are no bullet holes or anything. Please forget that the first shot almost totally destroyed the drone".

Marque Cornblatt Prod. i'm saying that the first shot nearly destroyed the drone, and they fixed it as good as new, and commented on how well it flies - even though they had totally re-built it. and then there is no evidence that the second shot even hits it because they don't show anything, they just expect you to take their word for it. basically, i'm commenting on how they made a video about how well their drone fares against a shotgun blast when, in fact, it doesn't fare well at all. it gets destroyed.
@MarqueCornblatt
@MarqueCornblatt 9 жыл бұрын
H. Krishna Thanks for clarifying. First off, it's not "them", it me in the clip, My buddy is using my Mossburg 500 in the test, and yes, we do strike the drone twice on camera (about 4-5 times in total, but only 2 clips made the edit). Although we sometimes use the words drone and airframe, we are really only meaning the airframe - that plastic monocoque clamshell part - THAT is the part we made and are testing. The fact that props and other parts were damaged is part of the test, but the idea that the airframe can actually keep functioning ( and offer some level of defense for the components) is the point of the video. In fact, this exact airframe, with many of those same parts, is still flying today. This durability is at the core of this project, and there is no other airframe anywhere that can match it's performance. I hope this helps you understand our intentions a little better. Thanks for the comments.

We design and make one aspect - the airframe - it is indestructible by any measures we subjected upon it and no amount of damage has effected it's functionality. All the other components (motors, electronics, etc..) are not my design or manufacture. They may or may not break (they usually don't). Defining this any more clearly should not be needed. Have you watched our earlier videos where we build the prototype? That may help clarify your questions...

Watch Ryder Not ruffled, but I answer these type of comments a lot. The impact of a freefall onto pavement is a decent test, but flying at full speed into walls/windows is actually a much better test, since the impact at full speed is so much greater than the impact from freefall. The drone can't even reach terminal velocity, since there is too much drag and not enough height. But thanks for the comments and share the links!

@ the fire test: One thing about fire is that it's essentially 900 Celsius air. That means it's about 1/4th the density of room temperature air. This means that flying a drone (or any aerodynamic vehicle really) through fire will cause sudden loss of lift. Come to think of it, flamethrowers may be an interesting way to fight drones, as if they don't cook them, they will at least knock them out of the air, and quite likely cook off their magazines or detonate their explosives if they're meant as fighters, bombers, or kamikazes.

shmeet There is nothing illegal at all.....at least if you live in the United States. I build RC devices and shoot them skeet style for target practice all the time. In fact, you can target shoot just about anything non living as long as you own it.

Mark, You have done an EXCELLENT job marketing your product, and congrads on exceding your mark on Kickstarter. I will buy one of your airframes, but the real testament is for the GO PRO!! Have you made them aware...maybe a sponsorship? I will buy a GO PRO, and I look forward to the future...Good luck!

You have it backwards. The helmets that you refer to already exist and are in use. We took military-proven ballistic materials (ie. bulletproof plastic) and re-purpose the tech for our airframes. Thx for watching and share the links!

+austin phonisay do you know anything about shotguns? or the types of rounds?
@t-gmailaccount6796
@t-gmailaccount6796 8 жыл бұрын
+austin phonisay It's the shells. All shotguns operate with nearly the same velocities with slight differences based on barrel length. The type of shell used was birdshot, which is meant to be shot from further away because the bb's spread the further they fly to increase the impact zone. This test would've been better from 20-25 yards so the bbs could impact the entire drone rather than just a wing of it.

If they only knew how thoroughly they are being monitored in their everyday lives... Cool video by the way. You made a quad that's heavy, killing the flight time, you made made something cheap expensive with no good reason, and you made it bullet proof to protect 50$ of commonly available electronics. The purpose of a quad in a combat zone is to substitute something precious like human life with something cheap, maneuverable and easily replaceable. Fail!
@MarqueCornblatt
@MarqueCornblatt 10 жыл бұрын
qntt2002 You sound pretty confident about your info regarding my work. What is the weight of my airframe? The flight time? The cost? Compared to what? I have those answers and you do not. But I'll give you a little heads up... This airframe replaces ones that are easily destroyed and offer zero protection with one that is lightweight, inexpensive and offers durable armor that can withstand an amazing amount of battle damage and still function. SInce it will almost never need replacing, I fail to see the "fail" that has you so convinced. Perhaps if you're in the Bay area, you can attend our next drone fight club with your best combat drone. It would be fun to let this discussion play out in the aerial combat arena. Thanks for the comments and share the links with your buddies.

I am thinking that the real benefit of that protective cover might be its elasticity thus reducing the jarring of sudden impact. If it was acting more like a rigid shell the drone would have shattered the window more easily. Interesting experiment - thanks.

hey guyz, i have 2 modifications i would suggest you make for better performance. firstly, the arms should be thinner or have flow holes to reduce power loss, seconly, try give the arms a banana bend upwards so the bottom of the arm on the end is above the top of the canter body, this will increase stability and also give slower and more controlled falls as the copter will remain upright in a fall and the props will spin adding drag.
