Good deal, left it looking good. I feel you on not pouring concrete, I hate concrete. This is a perfect example of why keeping a cheap $50 walmart canopy in the truck is a good idea. I use them all the time to cover where I'm welding when rain pops up. It isn't always practical, but it has saved me from many short days and wet work areas.

You guys did a good job cleaning up that mess and getting it running again, one thing them split well seals that will drop everything in the well if someone takes some of those bolts out and makes it fall apart I would trash them, they are no count in my opinion.

For one of us, that was the end of the chase... but I ate dinner at home that evening, ha ha ha.

Our well casing is down just above the 1600' mark when it was drilled and the pump is set right now at about 880' down. It uses 1 1/2" steel pipe, so it was nice to see you guys be able to pull that out by hand for sure. Have to get the truck here to do that.

Not from your area or familiar with the well trade , but in the Michigan area it's 1k a day for each man on the job give or take. I would have charged the full day rate. Material looks like north of $500, less than 1k. Same day emergency call. $2,500 - 3,000.

I noticed you were using a pair of Ideal side cutters. That what my Dad always used because they have the crimper built into them. Plus good quality tools. My Dad and my Grandfather started drilling wells in north west Alabama in 1946.

Having a well myself I find your videos fascinating. I will not do any repairs myself! I will call a professional! My well is 45’ with a 10’ setting gap and produces 12 gallons per minute. My water table is so high.

Only getting 12lb of pressure and I have put a new pressure tank and switch ! I pulled it up a couple feet and turned it on to listen if there was a break in the pipe down the well and didn't hear anything ! Do you have a video on how to diagnose if the pump is bad using a voltage meter ? That would be great ! Thanks for your videos !

Never fails with the rain sometimes. Been fighting it on my project a lot of times but thankfully have a ton more to do inside as well so it's just changing gears a little bit. Had one jobsite I worked on years ago that kept getting rained out, ended up having to move on because I needed an income and a jobsite that is mud for months on end doesn't put food on the table or pay the bills. I think in the 2 months that site was open we got about 2 weeks worth of work done before I found another job. If things work out the way I want them too though rain won't bother me much but then again I will be an average of 60 feet under water while I work unless I am in a room with a couple students.

If I were doing the repair, I would have just replaced the wire anyway. The stress from being ripped loose might have caused some very small splits or cracks in the insulation, which will cause the wire to fail later. Other than that, excellent work as usual.

Came across your channel doing research. I think I'm having a well pump issue. It is pretty old so that's the first clue. Last week the water started to get slow until it quit entirely. Turn off the faucet and the pressure would build back up, then again to nothing over and over. Thought it may have been the pressure switch so replaced that and checked the pressure in the tank to make sure it was good. Testing after installing the new switch, I left a faucet on and everything seemed to be fine with the pump coming on and off at the correct pressures. Then over the weekend it started slowing to nothing then the pressure would slowly build back pressure.

I'd expect the insurance company to write a check for around $7k. When the kid is released from jail, I'd expect their insurance rates to go up accordingly.

Awesome job, I am a sparky, so no idea how to even estimate that job. 2 people for let’s say 8 hours, 100 bucks an hour for maybe normal or emergency 1600 bucks? Then material and other charges. I would say 3000-3500. That’s a guess though. Of course I don’t do service work since I work at a prison, but might be a good idea, if you have the spare room to keep a pop up cover on your truck, 10x10. We use them pretty frequently at our joint.

Double what you charge for that emergency fix. His insurance should cover it. I like your work.

The last time I replaced one of my well pumps I used heat shrink tubing to hold the wire to the pipe. I used 2" wide piece every 4 feet.

I'd suggest a $1200 emergency call-out plus $250-300/hr emergency labor for the two guys needed with a 4hr minimum, plus any parts and materials. It's a good idea to have a calculation of situational billing (standard/scheduled vs emergency) for both the trip and the labor calculated to be appropriate for the skills, experience, manpower, and equipment wear required to complete the job, but upkeep as though you'll only have about 70-80% of your regular workload. Put any surplus generated into a maintenance fund account (preferably one that accrues interest) after paying yourself and your employees. This surplus fund should be treated like a nest egg for the business to weather difficult times or to cover unexpected expenses. A separate account (or accounts) should be used for operating expenses, such as payroll and operating expenses. Perhaps when calculate an emergency travel mileage expense based on travel distance ranges from whatever you consider your 'home territory'. This way if you get an emergency request that's further afield, but still doable, you can readily calculate the out-of-territory markup. So let's say your regular territory covered a 90 mile radius, but you have an emergency client that is 120 driving miles away, then that markup should apply.

Somewhere around 2000 likely more since it was "emergency" repair that pulled you off another booked job. Heck, the car insurance has to pay so hit em harder than you would the homeowner.

I had a 6" steel casing that was hit by a payloader doing snow removal. Bent the casing really bad and peeled the top cap off. Had to dig it it out in -15 temperatures, I'd take your heat any day over that. Nice job.

@H2OMechanic not sure if you already have these but a leg canopy aka a tail gate tent would help keep your work space out of the rain and sun in instances where you're not using your drill rig or crane.

Emergency Insurance jobs get charged differently in most industries. This would be considered emergency services . This will be falling back on the insurance of the drivers vehicle . The property owner may also have had insurance he can file on, then his insurance will sue the automobile driver. I would say $4,000 and the insurance won’t even blink an eye they will just write the check .

You should always take care of your electrical. Put a post in the ground with a Air conditioner disconnect attached and terminate your romex to that then run liquid-tite to your pressure switch. It looks better and provides a very close power disconnect to the well pump.

I'd pull the pump completely out and put a section of 6 inch pipe in as a dirt shield. Then I'd back fill and pour a new pad and go from there. But then I'm good with concrete too. It would be good if you had a post hole digger on the truck. Good Job!

Yes that wire is similar to Romex build style, but its UF wire. The heavy outer insulation compared to standard Romex (NM-B wire) which is considered "conduit" is rated for wet and direct burial. As an electrician, it is a great "all in one" wire for wells, but I hate stripping it hahaha! Love your videos btw, I love geology and working in construction, I think wells are pretty damn cool.

I am learning so much more then I knew about well pumps . I have a friends well that pumps rusty water . 150 foot down 25 years old well . I told her that it needs to be cleaned and maybe replace the pump . This was 4 years ago . I invested the whole neighborhood, everyone is pumping rusty water , even the well under 10 years old ! I have replaced the pressure switch and brought the air down , the air in the tank was set at 45 psi . I put in a 30/50 switch

See a lot of comments about how the insurance company for the teenage driver should just write a check. First that's assuming the kid had insurance on the vehicle. Second, there's usually a clause in auto policies that should the driver be doing something illegal with the vehicle like drunk driving or in this case fleeing from the police, the policy is void. Most likely the homeowner will need to file the claim and their insurance go after the kid.

To prevent debris from falling into a well you're repairing, use a product called a pipe cleaning pig. Run a rope thru it so you can pull it back out once the casing is repaired.

A thick rubber balloon or bag would be great for in the well to keep stuff out! On the end of a hose. Then shop vac the stuff out.

I'd like to see what the car looked like after it went and roller skated through the grass and took out the pump. Also try being in the South when it rains. Only makes it worse when it's hot out.

Where I live in West Texas we don't see a lot of poly pipe we usually use Schedule 40 20 foot joints that is not to say that there isn't polypipe out here and West Texas though we don't use a bunch of it
