Haas is fine on the grid, but fails when the bullshit excuses given to Andretti are used comparatively. I’ve said before that FOM is completely dismissive of the importance of finally cracking the market in the States. I am also American, having one foot in the States, the other in the EU(Dk). I know American fans and they are a fickle bunch. If F1 want to keep their recent popularity, they had best stop acting a bunch of entitled and arrogant twats and get Andretti on the grid. This is how they will secure the motorsports fan base in the states, securing and growing the fans and thus the revenue stream. This type of expansion will also very likely add to the valuation of F1 and the individual teams. If Stefano Domenicali can not understand this, perhaps he is the one who needs to move on.

If you want to know why Michael Andretti has no business in Formula 1, look up "Andretti's wreckfest". He truly was the laughing stock of Formula 1 in 1993, worse even than young Logan today. No, this isn't business, it's personal. They don't want him back in any capacity.

I don’t disagree with you on the way gene haas runs the team, but I don’t like the way you fail to differentiate between him and all the people doing the work day to day to keep the team going…. And calling the them a useless, waste of space, shit team is pretty harsh towards all those people.
@WheelSports

I specifically spoke about Gene Haas because it's his team, he sets the direction, he's the one stating he doesn't want to invest, and during it I spoke about that particular direction of the team, I never said anything about the staff on purpose, they can only work within the framework of the company they are working within, so it's not their fault that the team is shit because they are stuck within those boundaries. I thought that would've been obvious. If Gene keeps going like this, then the next time hard times roll around, those people will be out of a job. Which is worse than me calling the team shit.

@@WheelSports. I agree with your take on this situation. It’s frustrating that someone like Gene Haas has a team on the grid and people mistakenly refer to Haas F1 as an American team, which they absolutely are not. They are an Anglo-Italian team that happens to be owned by an American. This is all the more frustrating because he lacks incentive and drive to have anything more than a midfield team that can act as a high profile billboard for his machine-tool company. Andretti has been outspoken for years, well over a decade really, to have a max effort, legitimately American outfit on the grid. Andretti’s motorsports CV is legitimate and broadly international, as well as internationally recognized and respected. It would be as important to the US as Ferrari is to the Italian nation. And with the massive financial backing they secured(US and internationally), plus US motorsports vendors and manufacturing firms, plus GM fully committing for the long term, Domenicali’s FOM letter of rejection reads as little more than an arrogant and egotistical list of excuses for Andretti to “not play in our sandbox”. But full props to anyone who could read it with a straight face and keep from laughing their ass off. And if you thought it contained substantive information supporting rejection, you are not well informed about the F1/motorsports world. And thus concludes my rant. 😮

Haas F1 have over 200 employees that they are providing a wage too so that they can provide for themselves and their families. They are creating business for many suppliers, most of which are smaller companies, helping said companies to generate income and profit and in turn provide for all their staff. They are providing Dallara with a huge opportunity to be involved in F1. I have absolutely no allegiances to HAAS F1 and i agree with your fundamental point that Gene needs to invest but they are not a waste of space. Fair game if they get bought out and a new owner invests but if they left F1 there would be hundreds of people and many many business impacted in a terrible way and i would never wish that on anyone.

Haas to me seems like a clear symptom of the bigger problem. F1 has become a closed exclusive club where everyone the lowest team (Haas) makes enough to stay in the club. Without external competition this will not likely change. One way to change this would be to have team licenses just like drivers have drivers licenses. Have enough infractions against you license (DNFs, crashes, rule violations, etc.) and not enough race points puts you on probation, and eventually you loose your F1 license and have to compete in F2 instead until you have a license again and someone else drops down (or a team is added).

I do have a slight softspot for Haas, but they have made so many messups. I mean i'd say there's a reason for their shady titlesponsors that pretty much only they have had. The way they treated Mick, yes he was crash prone but he had talent and Haas proved to be a horrible place for a rookie that needs refinement. Gene himself refusing to give a dime to the team. Haas as a team consistantly having a poor car and they cant bring upgrades in time. Haas doesnt even build much of their car themselfs and they are still this terrible. Haas needs a massive change or they need to sell, and Andretti is right there looking to buy

Ok go on, enlighten me? Where's this magical investment and improvement? The only reason their car looks good this year is down to them fixing one issue, the tyre issue and otherwise its because Williams did a big overhaul of systems so didn't upgrade the car much, RB did the same as they moved closer to Red Bull and Alpine pulled an Alpine. Those teams are slowly upgrading from that and by the end of this season I guarantee they will be slowest again.

Well you're fierce! Hass gave FOM a ten team grid after the class of 2010 folded. I can't imagine Andretti wasn't aaked back then to join. Back then there was no costcap so Andretti couldn't or woupn't take the risk, Haas did. With a buisiness plan concieved by Günter Steiner Haas could enter on the cheap. Haas bailed out FOM in 2016 after the folding of Marussia. After Vettel won in a Torro Rosso in 2008 every construxtor has to design and build itself a bespoke chassis or has a third party build an exlusive chassis for it. Racing Point isn't found guilty on charges of copying in 2020. Racing Point had completely legally bought brakeducts from Mercedes in 2019. The front ones were used in 2019 but the rear ones couldn't be used in that year due to the difference in concept. In the winter of '19 to '20 the list of transferible listed parts changed and brakeducts were suddenly illeagal to transfer. This is why Racing Point was handed out a penalty of 15 constructors points. Renault pushed very hard for a conviction 'cause a that time it was batteling with Racing Point and McLaren for P3 in the constructors. In the same year Renault was punished for using illeagal brake balance adusting software. This was an infringement on the driver aid regulation. Out of the top of my head a few results were scrapped were that software was used. Gene Haas uses the Haas F1 cars very effectively as a billboard. No one outside North America ever had heared of Haas Automation. Now Haas CNC macines are shipped all over the world, this are even helping Dallara building chassis' for Haas F1 team. Andretti is now running into the American franchise wall. In many Ametcan sports there is no promotion- degradation system but a a sporter pool system with a budget cap. No team is outspending the competition and the top players are devided amongst the competition. In hindsight Andretti made the wrong call i 2014-'16 and he regrets it now. Under Bernie he would be able to enter but not under the Americans of Liberty Media. The Americans keep the Americans at bay..... Further more i mostly agre.

You started your vid by calling Gene Haas a Billionaire with no talent. I am sorry but that demonstrates an ignorance of who Gene Haas is and how he has made his money. It was insulting. This wrong statement set the tone of what followed and you fail to understand how Haas is a success for Gene Haas. He is not interested in your high ideals. I am not an American I am a British engineer and I am a Mclaren fan. My whole life has been spent in engineering where Haas automation is higjly regarded. Gene Haas didnt make his money looking at a computerscreen in the money markets. He made it by taking on the Japanese and far East machine tool manufacturers and out performed them by great design and new techniques. He is an engineer and talented designer and he designed one of the first programmable machine tool indexers and then started building whole machines using new ideas. He has also raced offroad successfully and started Newman Haas his first Nascar team over 20 years ago and now has four teams in Nascar as Stuart-Haas . He is one of the big names in American motorsport and been involved for decades. Just a point also he is not a billionaire. I put that incorrect statement down as journalistic license. The big teams are trying to sell , drinks or cars so they need to win races to help promote a Mercedes or Ferrari etc . Haas F1 puts the Haas name onto a world stage . It opens doors. He took the rules and in typical Gene Haas way realised things could be done differently when he saw Guenthers ideas and they worked together.. You are castigating people for reading the rules of the sport and being diferent. For being an entrepreneur and thinking outside of the box. Andretti would be a similar operation because he has seen how Haas has done it . Andretti has never made anything unlike Haas. Andretti has just made a good racing team using parts from alll over and Indycars are Dallara . There are strict rules and you should be more comcerned about RB moving onto the same site as red Bull with the same ownership. Haas saw an opportunity and went for it when others had failed. Stop knocking him and by inference the whole team. They have earned their right to be on the grid and you are advocating social engineering of the grid because they had the temerity to be different but within the rules. How much Gene wnats to put into the team is his business and he will way up the pros and cons to him and not to you. Because as I said he is not a billionaire and so has to be careful. Haas joined the grid when the F1 world was diferent and they needed Haas. They have passed the test of time and deserve their place and no new team would join F1 if they see Haas being disrespected and shown the door for no reason other than they dont wear designer outfits like the big teams.
