In this make over project if used wenge to build a new handle for this mini hatchet. It's by far the hardest wood I've been working with! This build was, as usual, a very fun build!

Habu the hatchet came back to life better than when it was new,and i definitely agree with you Wenge is a species of wood that stands alone as far as everything it has beautiful grain patterns,almost like cast iron when it's cured as well as the piece you used that looks like it was milled decades ago and laid in a attic or barn forever,but when it's finished it looks and feels amazing,all the best to you and your family my friend

I would recommend riveting the base of the handle through the wood, that epoxy won’t hold for very long after use. Perhaps a drill press and then sand it down

Never seen one quite like that. I really love tiny hatchets, and light weight (now due to my health) Great shaping on the handle, I really like it, looks comfortable.

Wow. Due to the attention to authenticity I would call that a restoration at this point. I don't think you could tell its not all original. At first I was skeptical when I saw you were not going to shine it up (then I saw it finished). If I didn't know I would have said the handle was 40 years old. Nice work, even the cut of the handle looks aged in it's shape.

Why only mill one side of the handle. Would it not be better to mill bolth sides of the handle equally so you would have equal amounts of material on bolth sides .

Matthew Price not really. Having a seam running the middle of the tang is a weak spot for cracking. What he made is called a frame tang handle. He should have put a pin in it however.
