Was a touch sneaky in the video - you can't ad-hoc switch to AM and that was neatly glossed over here. Only the CEPT band allows switching between AM/FM on the fly, otherwise, the button just switches receive but will only transmit in FM. Just a heads up for anybody reading this, and I think it was a bit disingenuous not to point that out. I'm making a review of this over this weekend and I'll cover why this HT is a steaming crock of turd - but I wasn't sent mine. for nix, but it's going back.

Hello Mat I found this video very interesting as I am looking at buying one of these QYT-CB58 HT’s and I just came across your video which is great in it being well done as I too am looking at doing the same setup at lest down here in Australia which would be interesting in working some of these 10 meter repeaters. Also what caught my eye was your roof mounted antenna on the magna base and the way you were moving the antenna up and down in tuning it in. I would ask what make and model is this antenna as it seems to be doing very well in the QSO’s covering a good distance as well on 4 watts output. I will let you know how I go on doing mine but it will have to wait for a bit as I have to learn this HEX editor programming setup first and the fact that it seems by what you were saying that this radio defaults are setup for UK band conditions so it is going to be interesting and thanks for the video have a great day.

With Hex editors sometimes those not knowing what they are doing can get in a muddle, and instantly corrupt the file.. It would be better if the factory could put out an unblanked frequency change ability built into their software for our purpose, or Chirp software (Dan Planet) could be amended to include the CB58. Good video though :-)

With radios sometimes those not knowing what they are doing can get them in the puddle wilst meddling in the doodle. HI! And in my humble opinion, a licensed amateur radio operator, in 2022... should have a tad more intimacy with computers. Even OP... could've touched the "ins" key on his keyboard instead of selecting and overwriting every byte. Now, I'm not expecting a deep analysis of the binary data in that file or some sort of reverse engineering of the handhelds microcontroller... Just basic binary editing not made into voodoo.
@jonathandebolster8089
@jonathandebolster8089 2 жыл бұрын
I personally don't mind playing with hex editors and doing some reverse engineering. Would've been cool if you'd had to calculate a checksum as well, but it seems they made it quite easy. A simple python script, or even an online service where you can upload the binary file in order to edit the frequencies should be easy to make and might help those who are hesitate about it.

SSB would be nice, but a very interesting radio. Here in the western New York state region, 10 meter FM is almist exclusively on 29.600 MHz. We do have occasional AM activity around 29.050 MHz. Have you tried it in the AM mode on 10 meters yet? In the USA, this radio could only be used by hams with a General class license (or higher). Technician and Novice stations are only allowed SSB from 28.300 MHz - 28.500 MHz. They can run CW and digital modes below 28.300 MHz, and there are a lot of them on FT8 and FT4. Does TYT have a similar HT that can cover 6 meters? 73, Keith, WB2VUO here near Buffalo, NY

The Mode on the Band Plan is NOT a Law just a Suggestion so you could run AM or FM in the SSB portion of the band.I hear stations on the Wrong Sideband quite often on the 40 meter band and sometimes on 17 meters as well.It’s not like that radio will actually bother anyone. The only HF band that you are required to use the mentioned modes are the 60 meter band because it’s a secondary use band for Amateur Radio.
@Keith_WB2VUO
@Keith_WB2VUO 2 жыл бұрын
@@1OFGODSOWN : FCC Part 97 only allows Wide FM above 29.0 MHz for General -Class amateurs and above, and the Novice and Technician voice privileges on the band are limited to mode A3j (SSB) between 28.300 MHz and 28.500 MHz. They are also limited to 200 watts (PEP) out. A Petition for Rulemaking was submitted back in 2000/2001 to give Technicians all modes on the entire 10 meter band, but the FCC did not act in it. Still, an interesting radio, just not for all Anateur classes in the USA. de WB2VUO

@@1OFGODSOWN : I never said tha General & up could not run AM between 28.300 MHz and 28.500 MHz, nor did I say that they can't run FM there, but if they run FM, deviation will have to be limited to 2 khz max ( which the HT won't support) and the fact remains that Technicians and Novices can not run AM on 10 meters. I stand by my position, the TYT HT is nice, but a Tech can only run it on CB, now allowable under Part 95. Techs are prohibited from running AM or FM on 10 unless new rules come out. Very good video. I am in the us. Hay could please tell me more also about that mag mount antenna you had there i think i like that . I have a cobra am 40 ch. Ht its an ok rig . I have also just picked up a pres.randy that has proven to be a very nice and very capable little radio with only one issue i need to get the uk radio due to thee mods. The us version has been fixed to delete the 10 meter band. And the uk version just snip them 2 wires inside and bam off to the races. Anyway you take care 73s an happy dxin. 199 florida georgia line. Which windows version will work for? Windows 11 does definitelly not work for - I turned on the radio, the device manager showed me com port 4 - I set com-port 4 in the qb-100 software - but: unavailable to open the communication port - even it was found the prolific driver and set to com 4 also found it in the qb-100 software. Is it really Windows 11? Does Windows 10 work?

CB in the US was AM and SSB only until lately..now FM is allowed. CB in the UK was FM only for decades but after years of illegal AM ops,they finally made AM and SSB allowed there. Your country may vary.

I found the software already - is it possible, that it will not work proper in Windows 11? I had to start it in admin-mode and also in compatible-mode for windows xp-service-pack-3 - then it started. But still, I cant connect to the radio by usb - it says the following inside the com-area at the device-manager: PL2303TA do not support windows 11 or later, please contact your supplier (I think that means nothing), or is that really the issue - and yes, I operate windows 11 on my pc. Does anybody know more about?

Roy: Not really. The Alinco DR-M03 mobile runs $50 - $100 more and commercial land mobile rigs in the Low VHF range are $750 and up per unit. When I was living in Connecticut, the fire radios were 33.9 MHz +/- and cost $400 per handheld on the average. Amazon has the TYT-CB58 for $139, shipped. That's only 1 1/2 cartons of smokes at current prices here in Buffalo. Glad that I don't smoke, this way I can afford radios! 73, Keith, WB2VUO here near Buffalo, NY

I do not understand the cautions you mentioned during editing the hex file. Your a fast talker, and since that is an important strp, and it does not show what your doing on the screen either, maybe you could elaborate. That said, Awesome. I have a number of "import" 10M radios, an HT to compliment them would be nice.
@TechMindsOfficial
@TechMindsOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
Simply, don’t use the delete button to remove the numbers from the hex file, just select the digit and press the required digit on your keypad to over write it. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching.

I bought 2 of these radios. And both of them where compleate garbage out of the box. Both of them have distorted transmitt so I ended up buying a cobra hh50 walkietalkie. @@TechMindsOfficial i was told by someone in the industry that this company dose not test any of the things they build they just make the products and send them out. Cause they know that once they ship them out of China it will cost more to return ship them then what you paid. And even if they do reimburse you you are still out untill they verify the defective product and you risk losing the money cause there not going to declare a recall on there junk. So yeah now I have 2 clunky radios that are total junk. And only one of them switches between am and fm mode. No matter witch band I put them in. So I just ended up buying 2 cobra wxst hh50 radios. Witch have much better transmitt audio.
