Does it output a sine wave on TX? Or a Square wave? If the latter, it would be one ugly signal with massive harmonics and you'd probably want to consider low pass filters.

The manufacturers really butchered the installation of those SMA. I see they are even like that on their Aliexpress page. It would be interesting to see the output on a spectrum analyser or at least another rx looking at the out of band radiation and harmonics. I suspect it will need external filtering before going into that 5W amp you mentioned.

Very nice, Matt! Two questions: can you launch more than one instance of SDR Console at the same time, e.g. one using the Hermes Lite, another one for the Radio Berry, and even one for the Pluto (for QO 100 in your case, if I remember well)? Could the Hermes Lite also run on this service (API?) on a Raspberry 4? Looking forward to the amplifier solution and the test! GL es 73, Pat, HB9FAB

Thanks for sharing Matt. I bought mine to use as either a dedicated FT4/8 skimmer or to possibly use with transverters. Your ADC temperature was showing at 55C so was this just with heat sinks on both boards or were you using a fan too? I used a GPIO extender so I could leave the RPI4 in its heatsink/fan case that which works well but is a bit noisy. Got some new copper heatsinks on order for both boards to see if I can go silent with an acceptable temperature. Mark, G6DDX.

Thankyou for the video. Project - Autonomous Wireless Net Radio for a Blackout Senario Question I have to find a ssb hf fsk sdr capable of hand shake reconnition , transciver and modem system that could be integrated into a compact radio using bands from 3 mhz to 28 mhz , 144mhz to 500mhz using maybe a raspberry pi or existing kits available being (compact for field conditions) capable of very noisy bands riding over jamming and using frequency hopping signals. Thankyou for taking my question seriously. I am happy to pay for your operating system on micro sd as I'm not a python code guru just a humble electrician with a limited rf and electronic background. Note power amp and antenna could be separate devices I can sort. Thanks Mate. Andrew Nz

Mat, do you know whether there is any output on the radiberry board that can be used or decoded to switch in filters for the different bands? I have a 100W PA salvaged from an old crystal locked commercial HF transceiver which will take 100mW or so input and has onboard filters switched by TTL logic. If I could interface that logic, interfacing it with a T/R relay may be enough to make it a viable HF Rig.

Hello Matt, i wonder how much bandwidth this system uses?. I currently have a remote SDR Server with a couple of Airspys HF+ and other SDRs, on a very RF quiet location, this will can be a great upgrade paired with a power amplifier, because all my antenas can TX (i hook up my HF transceiver there from time to time). I currently have a 40mbps symmetrical connection on the remote site and i wonder if this can work remotely over internet. You can measure the bandwidth with the "nload" utility on the Raspberry, or with the "resource monitor" of windows on your desktop.

Two very different radios. The Radioberry is a transceiver that appears to top out at 38 MHz. The Nooelec is receive-only, and *starts* at 25 MHz (topping out at over a GHz). The Nooelec requires an adapter to tune most of the HF band.

If you plug the TX and RX connectors into the same antenna, you'll blow up the receiver when you transmit. However, you can use a duplexer to isolate the ports while using a single antenna. He's using the Ethernet connection to control the Pi with another computer (network connection).

With all the Pi RF projects I have made I have never had issues with noise from the PI. The only project which had any sort of issue was when I built an Allstar node, there was a “whine sound” on the transmitted audio, but this was cured by properly grounding the USB and Ethernet metal cans. I’ll report back on this topic once I get more into this project with the Pre-Amp board. As a suggestion you could join the google group for this project, lots of daily discussions going on.
