Hades is a god-like roguelike dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant Games critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.
As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you'll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the underworld himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.
The Olympians have your back! Meet Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, and many more, and choose from their dozens of powerful Boons that enhance your abilities. There are thousands of viable character builds to discover as you go.

@L33PL4Y

The way I see it, if he doesn't want to literally complete a game because there's way too much to do in it, he shouldn't feature it. Complete games that are doable, don't complete games that are torturous to complete. Don't half-ass it, go all the way or not at all. That's what being a completionist is all about. The proper way to take care of himself wouldn't be to mostly complete a game and leave the rest undone. The proper way would be to not feature that game at all and instead feature more completionist-friendly games.
@Sines314
@Sines314 2 жыл бұрын
@@L33PL4Y Mostly agree. He can just limit himself to one game like Hades or Breath of the Wild every few months. Running the channel as a mix of completionism and review channel forces him into these weird situations. If he wants to play more of those long games, he should create a new mini-series. Completionists Finishes or something like that. Reach some reasonable completion goal (basically, before the endless grinding starts) and stop there. Then he can give his review.
@L33PL4Y
@L33PL4Y 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sines314 Disagree. The show, the channel, his identity, is the COMPLETIONist, meaning it is literally his one and only job to COMPLETE a game. Not "mostly complete," not "finish," but COMPLETE. Therefore, if he is not willing to COMPLETE a game, he should not feature it. It's one or the other, there is no gray area here; the game is either complete or it's not. If a game has way too much shit to do and it's going to waste his life away, he shouldn't feature that game. On the other hand, if he's going to feature a game like that, it's his job to complete it, not mostly complete it. It's his choice to make: feature insane games and go insane completing them, or feature more reasonable games and keep his sanity. Don't feature insane games and quit before the finish line.

@@rns6889 Not really, we were kids after all. Things like the origin of Asterios and Medusa were excluded because... do I need to explain? Also certain stories were omitted for example the tale of Jason ended with the Argonautica as we were never taught Medea. I also think we didn't learn about Heracles killing his wife and children, I could just bot be remembering well but i feel like the kept that fact from us. The only "adult" thing we were taught in full was Zeus going around having babies with everyone which we mostly just found funny after some point, even in that early we made jokes about the head god fucking around with everything. We never realised some of the weirder things that meant since, you know, we didn't know where babies came from.

What shocked me was the mention that they get 20 days holiday per year as a big thing. In most of the developed world statutory holidays are a legal requirement for workers (5.6 weeks in the UK, etc). It should be written in law that companies in the US of North America do that, rather than it being up to the individual company instead.

And the fact that their games tend to be solid, especially this one, just goes to show how beneficial it is to take care of your employees. All those half-baked AAA games you see nowadays, I guarantee they are product of intense crunch that caused by mismanagement of time, resources and expectations. This is what you get when you actually give your devs chance to refill their batteries and to complete their workload in schedule it requires. This is what every AAA game could be if they weren't rushed out of the gate in hopes of quick short term gains. There's no other reason than devs not being able to work to their full potential due to that aforementioned mismanagement.

Something I really loved in Hades was the almost PERFECT portrayal of the gods as a whole. First is the titular Hades. After years of being portrayed as a villain, as evil or some sort of grim megalomaniac, (and Rick Riordan doing his great portrayal of all gods eventualy), this game pretty much NAILED the idea of a grumpy, "no fun allowed" and industrious god who only cares about maintaining the afterlife as orderly and fair as possible, going through all the "parchmentwork" and managing all the labourers and co-workers of his realm. Then we have the Olympic gods who are portrayed as fickle, distant and often single-minded. Throughout the game we clearly see not all gods are good-intentioned to Zagreus. Sure Athena is DEFINITELY helping us out of good will, Zeus and Poseidon are just enjoying something to further bother Hades, Dyonisus and Aphrodite see Zagreus as a "toy" or source of amusement, which fits their nature but don't make them entirely blameless (although Dyonisus is pure Himbo and I love it!). So we end up with this pantheon of gods where we can't expect much from them, aside from definitely NOT trusting all of them. Trust Hades and Athena, the rest, be very careful.

"One must imagine Sisyphus happy" -Camus Realizing the struggle to complete a game in and of itself can be fulfilling, is a great argument for why Roguelikes as a genre are engaging.
@richt7525
@richt7525 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. For rogue-likes in general, Dead Cells both slaps and beats the shit out of this one, remaining the still-untoppled champion in the spotlight. In terms of game-play design, anyway. But it still lacks the pure flair and artistry of Hades. I can genuinely see why people who HATE rouge-like games still adore this one. It can be argued that this game is so much more compelling not for its gameplay loop, but for the downtime in the middle. You almost *want* to die already, just to get back to the House and see what's up. In a perfect world, we'd get a nice balance between the two. Until that happens, they'll always be the two sides of a coin that all game devs should aspire to. Edit: I 100% mean what I said. Especially as a game designer myself. Dead cells is just objectively better, in terms of balance, replay value, and QoL factors. But there are aspects of the genre that have never been fleshed out as well as Hades did it- story telling and overall satisfaction of progression, mostly. It's really only the super-anal-retentive folk like myself that can point out its flaws, mostly a lack of good build diversity in the end-game and the fact that increasing heat adds purely artificial difficulty. (Dead cells, for example- on higher BC levels, both adds new enemies and complexity as well as making your gear scale well for the new challenges at hand. Hell, quite a few weapons only shine at higher difficulties. Hades, however, just makes things more tedious with far less payoff. There's almost no point in the struggle after 15-20 heat except for completionists) And still Hades remains the game I recommend to most folk. Bc it's written and portrayed so well that pretty much nobody will notice or complain.

I remember seeing the contractor upgrade that always extreme measures to go to level 4, making Hades himself harder. needless to say, I basically swore off ever doing that because I was confident I would never beat him if I did. I am now at the point where I always have extreme measures maxed out so I can boost the heat by 10 points and make runs a challenge and, by extension, more enjoyable. I'm very happy with myself for getting to the point where something I saw as impossible for me is now done on a regular basis for the purpose of adding heat and being a fun challenge.

In school, Greel mythology was rarely a topic that we touched. But when I first heard about it, I got curious and kept reading more and more about it. To me, it wasn't really something to learn and study, but instead a big amount of exciting adventure stories. And that, combined with the big amount of Grimm fairy tales I read as a kid, turned me into the huge fantasy fan I am today. The only thing I read more about in my childhood than Greek mythology were dinosaurs.
