Bruh, I know the game tries to make us hate Hades from the very start, and I can see why considering how he treatex Zagreus., but holy hell the more I think about it he is one of the most reasonable god of the lot, aside from Athena maybe. Like... Zeus really did kidnap Persephone, Demeter sent the world in an ice age because of that, and in the same time, he really has a hell of a lot more "work" compared to anyone on Olympus. Plus that most of the others are either squabling, getting drunk, causing random wars and the like. I like the fact that he isn't the "bad guy", just a misunderstood, angry, strict father that has a lot to deal with, including a son that mostly does what he wants.

The amount of time they spent on the writing and voice acting of this rogue-like is unbelievable.

Y'know that experiment where they connected the pleasure center of rats brains to a button, and the rats just started hitting the button like, all the time? To the point that they hit it instead of eating or drinking and all fucking died? I love how accurate this is. Hades is one of the Olympians who not only takes his job seriously but also is a pretty decent person. Zeus basically impregnates any woman he thinks is hot, throws hissy fits when his ego is threatened and casually causes continental disasters Hera constantly hunts down her husband's bastard children and makes it her mission to make their lives a living hell. The most famous example being Heracles where she basically drove him mad and had him kill his own wife and kids. Not to mention she's hella petty. Poseidon is SLIGHTLY more chill than Zeus, still his list of bad deeds is almost as long as his. Aphrodite casually murders anyone who MIGHT be prettier than her or she doesn't like. Calling herself the "jealous type" is an understatement Ares and Athena are constantly in a pissing contest with each other with the lives of mortals being lost in the process. Although they're both gods of war so they kinda get a pass. Demeter throws hissy fits cause she doesn't get to see Persephone and threatens to leave the world in ice if she doesn't come to see her at least for half a year, EVERY YEAR Dyonisus is basically the drunk uncle whose parties range from harmless fun to full blown city destroying clusterfucks...literally... Hades, Hepheastus, Hermes ,Apollo , Eros and a few lesser gods are the ones actually pulling their weight without being assholes.

The amount of love for Hades from mythology is honestly refreshing. So many times he's a villain in pop-culture bc he's "the King of the Underworld" so "tHaT mUsT mEaN hE's BAD". He was arguably the nicest of the Gods and definitely among the Major Ones- I mean when the competition is Zeus, Poseidon, etc. it's not that hard to NOT look like an awful person. Hades had a functional, healthy relationship with his wife. He often offered help to those who asked for it- he literally told Heracles that he can take Cerberus for one of his tasks but he has to bring him back (and on the topic of Hades' pup, Cerberus comes from Greek Kerberos which literally can be translated as Spotted so Hades named his dog Spot and that's the only translation I consider canon!). There is only one myth I know of where Hades is "the villain" but considering the fact that our "hero" wanted to kidnap and marry Persephone in this one... Is He really?

Hades was said to be loyal and respectful towards Persophone, never betraying her (unlike zeus) and letting her go visit her mother, Demetria, the goddess of bountiful harvests, during spring and summer. It is said the periods when Persephone was on the underworld was a great sorrow for Demetria, this is why she doesn't work on Earth during winter and autumn.

OK the idea that nobody in this version of the Persephone myth was outright mailcious is FASCINATING! Even Zeus wasn't doing it to be cruel but bc he assumed it was a win win for two unhappy people and didn't stop to consider their consent. Its the same sort of obliviously chaotic, mood swinging cheery rudeness we've learnt to expect from his interactions with Zagreus. Then bc that created a messy situation for all of them, they had to hide it, leading to Demeter not knowing where her daughter even was, her endless winter and distant demeanour brought on by MOURNING Persephone, while the goddess in question was struggling with her own unhappiness on Olympics, love for her husband and grief for the first loss she'd ever experienced being her own child. Things escalated bc of personal drama among a disastrous, powerful family who don't know what they're doing any better than normal people we as players know, and it's so much fun to humanise them in this was while still having so much fun with the unique perspective their godhood gives them on life and the world e.g. Death being a mild inconvenience

I am utterly shocked that the Greece god of the underworld is one of, if not best gods overall in the entire mythos. I mean sure he has flaws but compared to the rest of his godly “family” they pale in comparison to what they’ve done.

This is one of the best/more accurate representations of Hades in fiction. He’s very stern, takes his job seriously, and hates the Olympian gods for pretty valid reasons. Just because he’s god of the underworld doesn’t make him a blindly evil villain.

Hades is so even-tempered because unlike most of his family that gets to loaf around in the lap of luxury on Olympus, Hades has an actual job, with tremendous responsibilities, that requires his utmost attention.

When people call Hades the nicest god, its not cause we're ignoring stories that tell of his bad deeds. Its cause those stories are so few and those few have so many good and bad versions to such a degree we cant be sure which one is definitive. Compare that to the gods who have definitively done ALOT of subjectively terrible stuff to the point whole wars were fought because of it. Hades is harmless unless you find one of 3 versions of him that tells you he did a bad thing that was probably popularized during a famine.

What I like about this retcon to the myth is that it keeps the originals spirit alive, in the original Hymn to Demeter (where the story comes from) it places all the blame on Zeus even though Hades does the physical kidnapping, the hymn goes out of its way to absolve Hades of guilt for everything except the pomegranate nonsense

Hades is the only Olympian a genuinely like. His punishments are less about ego and more about setting an import example. They guy who roles a boulder up a hill everyday got punished because he left the underworld while dead. This action upsets a balance that is extremely important. Both life and death have an important function. It makes sense that such an extreme act was met with a fitting punishment. Plus, I genuinely want a story where Zeus gets castrated.

Hades shows that we definitely can mistake attitude for kindness. Hades can be dour and passive-aggressive, but he's by no means cruel or inconsiderate. We just simply tend to read crabby people as naturally rude or hateful, not really accounting how tired they might just be -- especially with Hades being the level-headed one and yet treated like the black sheep

Hades is a cool guy in the game but most problems he had with Zagreous were really of his own making. If he told his son the truth when he came out of age it all could turn differently. On the other hand perhaps Zagreous would never find Persephone nor have motivation to go and try to look after her/surface.

To everyone in the comments saying this isn’t how the myth goes, remember that there are literally thousands, possibly tens of thousands of Greek myth variants, with pretty much every single situation that ever happens having dozens of variants that can be wildly different.

Demeter goes into apathy and secludes herself from the world, which stops everything from growing (goddess of agriculture and all that). Hades agrees to have Persephone live on the surface for half a year with her mother and the other half in the underworld where he will love her and whilst there "she will be treated as the Queen of Queens" (quote from OverlySarcasticProductions). And this is why we have winter children.

Hello guys, just to give a little of mithological history what happen was that persephone(i dont know if i writed correctly the name)was daughter of demeter, the goddest of the olimpus have the logic to stay virgin, so demeter take his daughter away from the olimpus to prevent the other gods appear, meanwhile in the underworld, hades was affraid about some damages after Tifon, he was worried about the light get in the underworld, so he go to see the damage, while he was investigating, demeter and hes daugther was picking up some flowers and the godest of love and Qupido(again, i dont know if i write it right) use one of theirs arrows and Hades look at demeters daughter and fall in love thanks by the arrow, he take her and go back to the underworld, Demeter was desperate about his daughter desapear and she wants her until she decided to ask to the sun about her and the sun say where his daughter was and what happen, sad she go from greeces and the world farms where infertilized, becuases of demeter where not presents in the olimpus, Zeus send Hermes to the underworld to search demeter's daugther and found her with hades and tell him the message of Zeus to return her to demeter, hades say: "I will return her with hid mother while shes not eat nothing from the underworld" Hades before retrieving demeters daugther, he offer her seeds of grenade and she eats her, after demeter founds out about she eat something from the underworld, there was no way to bring her back, Hades who was in a good mood, decide by the time of springtime and summer shes have to stay with demeter, but, while the cold season, persepone, turn back to the underworld, lefting demeter in that time depressed and not making their god tasks. And there the stations appear. My knowledge about Greek gods is limited to what I've heard from others. Disney did Hades dirty, but from what I know actual Greek mythology of the Pantheon is that Hades cared for everyone who entered his realm, though he didn't approve of anyone leaving for any reason. It would be nice to have a VR world of each realm to visit. Not from anything already established in other games or movies, but based on the architecture of the past while looking more modern the more you were further away from where Hades resided.

The funny thing is that this isn't even a retcon to make the story of Hades and Persephone more palatable to a modern audience. Like...sure, his *reasoning* for doing it is as are many details, but even in the original myth Hades is explicitly absolved of all blame for the kidnapping and it's put entirely on Zeus. He ordered it, and as father of the bride (something that changed here for obvious reasons, hence changing the details to match) it was his right to trade her like that by contemporary norms.

It's neat that they put this in because it actually was more of an arranged marriage that was set up by Zeus, what with him being Persephones' father and all. Hades being the bad guy who kidnapped Persephone was a later add in. It was basically Zeus' fault. Also, probably one of the most civil conversations between Zagreus and Hades that I have seen.
