A broadway show that's not an adaptation of a popular movie? A concept
@maia_gaia5 жыл бұрын
@@naesmitty3888 ............. les mis is an adaptation of a book, first of all. And was first staged on Broadway over 30 yrs ago. And of course there are a couple truly original works, but the past 5 or so years have been dominated by adaptations of modern popular media.
@maia_gaia5 жыл бұрын
@@mckenziemurphy421 wicked is based off a book. I'm so perplexed by these replies because 1) you both listed musicals that are FAMOUSLY based off of books and 2) I didnt say there weren't any new musicals that weren't based off of popular media. The point still stands that over the past few years we've gotten mean girls, pretty woman, king kong, spongebob, frozen, waitress, and beetlejuice. And that's not including jukebox musicals like the cher show. I like some (okay one) of these shows, but I'm glad to see an original show get some legs. Why is that controversial? Lol
@maia_gaia5 жыл бұрын
@@mckenziemurphy421 you're right. I suppose i chose that wording because it was a lot snappier than saying "popular media," and because I was specifically thinking of king Kong, frozen, mean girls, and pretty women. I also don't view a reimagining of a Greek myth the same way I view a staging of a movie that came out within the last twenty years. Yes, hadestown is based off of greek mythology, but that source material is lose and ever-changing whereas many modern adaptations are glorified shot-for-shot remakes of movies. Not to mention the liberties this show takes with the mythology.

Ciara Ruane It’s so Hard I want the Prom cause it’s so Full Of Positive Vibes And it’s an actual “Original” Musical meaning it’s not based on a Movie or Book However Hadestown has had a Long Journey To make it to Broadway and it’s score is so Epic Not to mention It’s acting it’s so hard I want both to win But The Prom has such a Positive Message and the Cast is so energetic it deserves to win I want both to win Cause they both have fantastic scores and acting
@crits25245 жыл бұрын
Zack Stark well Hadestown has my vote for best musical - a story that isn’t happy go-lucky but tells the story that life isn’t easy and people make mistakes leading to sad stories but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. Plus it has one of best sounds to come to Broadway in a while. (An opinion not a fact - nearly every show that ends up on Broadway deserves their chance to shine RIP Groundhog Day)

I love how Orpheus is the one who is unsure of himself, while Eurydice is so sure of what she wants. He's so head over heels in love with her that he's stunned and doesn't know how he got so lucky. His reaction to her bumping into him and her kissing him at the end made me cry tbh. It's one of the many small things that really shows that this musical was created by women.
@kl-14474 жыл бұрын
Women's perspectives make it so much better. Also, if you've seen it, in All I've Ever Known he's so hesitant to touch her before she initiates any romance and its so sweet that he waits and their chemistry absolutely sells it
