Take the most pedestrian Honda Civic ever made and dump 200K into it... What do you get? Well, you no longer have to imagine because Spoon Sports and Built by Legends have done it for you. The employees at Spoon sports wanted to build a pedestrian car that is fun on the streets and fun on the track that could also be driven as a daily. They ultimately chose the Honda Civic EG6. The customization of this EG6 Civic goes all the way down to the nuts and bolts. Much like an F1 car, every modification and piece of this car had a purpose and reason to be modified or rebuilt. From the carbon fiber floors to the re-positioned engine to make room for the custom headers, it has been meticulously thought out. In this episode of "Capturing Car Culture," you get to enjoy the ride with Larry Chen as he takes this three-year brain child on a ride and share his experience with you.

A 1994 Civic Si was the first brand-new car that I ever bought. We sold it to a friend when we moved to Europe in 1998, and he kept it for another 15 years and well over 200k miles. This is the ultimate expression of that car, and I love that they have put the time and effort into building it. I'll take mine with LHD, in white, to match my original.

The Civic End game boss. The attention to detail and cohesiveness of all the modifications all working synergistically is really impressive. This kind of build doesn't make sense to 99% of people who would rather just buy a 911 turbo or GT3 for the same money but if you were like me reading sport compact car, honda tuning, and super street magazines fantasizing about building your used Honda into the ultimate car it's a fantasy realized to make something like this. I make good money but drive a 2006 Acura TSX with tons of custom work done because that was my attainable dream car 20 years ago and i'm literally realizing a fantasy driving it every day. Can't beat golden era honda double wishbone suspensions.

I definitely appreciate the Built By Legends philosophy of building. Money and R&D doesn't always need to be about extracting as much performance as possible. This build is about maximizing what made the EG great in the first place, not about turning it into a completely different car. The Japanese legends of the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's were special cars right from the factory. Taking the vision of the original engineers and refining every detail without budget constraints is a really cool concept; it's not about building the most wild, uncapped version of the car--it's about building a product for someone that truly loves and appreciates the car for what it is. Now, who wants to send me a few million so I can collect them all??? Hahaha.

I love these modernisation, it's basically a singer civic. I just wanted to point out, for those that come across my comment, that the carbon fiber is a reinforcement layer on top of the existing sheetmetal. Opera Performance, the shop responsible for those bits, made a video about it. Just so y'all know it's not a full carbon replacement, but a very trick way pf increasing rigidity, pioneered by Opera Performance on their legendary s2000 (yes, the one in GT4)

I know Spoon from Gran Turismo and had a highly modified EG6 Spoon that I would use to kick other cars butts on all the tracks. What stood out for me was the light weight and handling vs. the engine. I would just run away from everything in the turns and watch the rearview mirror on the long straights as they would catch-up to me, only to be left in the dust in the braking zones and curves. This car is going to be special. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Those 600kW monsters are built to race in straight lines, which is a different discipline. Spoon is in the spirit of the balance of street cars, with the purity of the driving experience. Same reason why they built this car with the same philosophy like Gordon Murray with the McLaren F1 and the GMA T.50.

"Fun on track, good on streets", this is the kind of philosophy that I wanna do when I get a opportunity to have an enough budget for building a Civic like this thing. It's not always about having brute power, straight line Mexico highway night racing stuffs, doing pulls, brag & rights or whatever but rather pure passion, dedication, all business, and functionality of the car. This kind of build is meant to engage the driver to be connected with the machine and to bring smile to their faces and not everyone would be able to understand it. Yeah, cars Civics aren't fast and powerful as supercars but it's more than just a "Civic", or your so-called "lawnmower", this is an art and it deserves a genuine love and respect. This thing has a special place for an enthusiast's heart like me. I hope that at least people would be able to understand why do we love cars like this thing despite not having a flashy or big reputation like the Skyline GTR's, Supras, and RX7's. We are connected with it and we are genuine happy with it. Thanks for creating a masterpiece like this, Ichishima-san!! and also thanks for making a video about this Larry!!

@@easye47 I agree the price for it is outrageous but I think it goes deeper then the price for a lot of people. I own a EJ1, or eg coupe for those who dont know the chassis codes, and I absolutely love these cars. I think spoon and BBL are doing something that myself and all other car people have asked themselves. What would you do with a car you love if money was no object? Spoon has built absolute demons for track racing but what I got from looking at this and the GTR build is that BBL isnt here to build the fastest version of these cars but versions of them that are meant to engage the drivers and make people who appreciate these cars fall in love with for the first time all over again.

Mind you DC sports skunk HKS Tanabe Greddy To name a few were available but spoon always stuck out as the unattainable and I never knew if their parts were even any good. This is so insane it is probably close to McLaren F1 insanity... to create something without care of whether it will sell or not, I am absolutely in-love!!! Well done Spoon and well done Built by legends. You have captured my heart. Thank you.

@@anesennaidoo5279 The part where you compare this civic to a Mclaren F1 in any way at all, even as a civic fanboy.

@@jacknimble1 Please help clarify what was I carried away with? My words were “Probably close to McLaren F1 insanity…to create something without care of whether it will sell or not…” This build is close to this, in my opinion.

Beautiful build so far can't wait til it's finished.. I like that it still looks stock as far as appearance.. no ugly wide body or crazy down Force wing. Functionality is key.. reliability is my main. Although I can't afford something like this I can definitely have something just as cool with my eg hatch.. sky's the limit

Hector is going to be running 3 Honda Civics with spoon engines. And on top of that he just came into Harry's and he ordered 3 T66 turbos, with NOS, and a Motec system exhaust.

Like the carbon fiber bits. The exhaust looks cool. Still wouldn't trade my German car for a Japanese one.
