I don't even know what to say fearing I might unintentionally spoil you but Haikyu!! really is one of the epitome of character growths. I'm so excited rewatching the series for the nth time with you! So, the names... probably late for this, but all of the names in Haikyuu are meaningful. Hinata (日向, in the sunlight) vs Kageyama (影山, mountain shadow) at Karasuno (烏野, crow field) are just the start. Hope Patreon doesn't get so far ahead that these comments are meaningless, haha.

Maybe you didn't notice that the player on the screen during the TV game was referred to as "Little Giant" by the commentators. So I think what inspired Hinata to play Volleyball was seeing someone as short as him being so good at Volleyball and going toe to toe with really tall blockers.

I have been watching Haikyuu on repeat through the years... I just caught it on this rewatch that on Hinata and Kag's 1st face-off... Hinata says "WE are going to keep winning" while Kags says "I am going to win it all." Didn't catch his way of phrasing this early on, even though it gets pointed out later.

I hope this isn't too late, but when kageyama says "what have you been doing for the last 3 years" that was him acknowledging hinata's very clear natural and physical talent and wondering how someone this amazing and passionate could possibly not reach atleast some of his potential. As for why hinata wants to go to karasuno so badly, the TV commentator says it all, while narrating about the little giant who hinata idolizes

YYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!! Probably my most anticipated moment for you!! *SO HYPED!!!* Edit: something I'd like to point out about Hinata in this first episode you might not noticed. After the defeat, he decided to join the women's volleyball club, that way he'd actually train in a proper way. After that, you can see him training and running proudly with the women's gym uniform, that's how much love he has for volleyball. Hinata is an amazing protagonist, probably one of my favorite in any shonen/spokkon, but still the whole cast (and I mean it, *EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.* of them, not only the main cast) is amazing and interesting. Each one of the characters, in their own way, make you love them.

That meme with hinata you put in at the end had me chuckling XD Great reaction!

I believe it's one of the beauties of reaction channels is when you sometimes just go with the viewer's recommendations out of your comfort zone and accidentally find something you didn't think you'd love. Personally, I wouldn't take it against the reactor if he doesn't like the recommended show after watching it. We're all different people with different tastes. There are some shows that I love that other people don't like or don't get at all, and that's just how it is. I've learned to keep the mindset that it's all subjective and I shouldn't take it negatively. Most of the time. But anyway, Haikyu is my favorite sports anime currently (Not that I go out of my way to look for sports anime shows to watch). It's pretty well-rounded. Great story, music, and animation. And although there are a lot of cool motifs and metaphors, it's pretty grounded in reality in almost everything. Even the most ridiculous play in the show is possible IRL. You just wouldn't be able to do it consistently, especially in a game.

We can never have too many :D Basic rules to help - it's a race to 25 pts (unless both teams reach 24, then it's a deuce and the team that scores 2 pts ahead wins). It's best 2 out of 3 sets. You can use any part of your body to keep the ball in play. A player cannot touch the ball twice in a row. The max number of "touches" a team can have with the ball in their court is 3. You score when the ball lands in-bounds the opposing team's side. If the ball lands out of bounds - the point will go to the team that DID NOT touch the ball last. It's a bit easier to learn by watching the show, I'm betting a lot of people learned volleyball rules watching this anime lol

Since it looked like you were confused on that last point, even though nobody was able to return Hinata's shot, the shot landed out of bounds, so the point goes to Kageyama's team.

The sub is by far the definitive version of the series. The Japanese VAs really capture the essence of the characters and moments so much better! With regards to scoring system, its 25 points to a set. And it's usually a best of 3 sets.

this is probably my all time favourite anime the character development is top tier and the symbolism is so good it’s a great show for analysing characters i really hope you continue reacting to it:) also i think watching it in sub is better bc you can appreciate the original voice acting and the emotional scenes are much more powerful in sub:)

The character growth in this anime-- it's everything you can ask for. All of the notable characters even the side characters have character or skill growth throughout the entire show it's amazing how Furudate does that 😭 anyway, Haikyuu reaction is the reason why I subbed so I'm really happy you're reacting to it now 🥺 I hope you can enjoy and continue the show

Whoever told you this anime is wholesome definitely knows what's up (maybe not every ep is full of wholesomeness there's "training periods" who might seem like filling at first but not actually because they built up). haikyuu is probably my favourite anime. the characters are just awesome, their progression and struggle. just amazing. also don't worry about the volleyball rules. most of us probably didn't know them at the beginning. haikyuu does a great job explaining them little by little and us in the comments can help as well

I thought I was gonna hate haikyu cause I’m more of an action anime fan, but after watching haikyu it’s literally became one of my favorites ever. The excitement I get in these tournaments. it’s also so realistic with teams cause I know for a fact that teams are gonna have conflict and haikyu shows that side really well especially with kageyama and tsukishima. I love it so much bro like UGHH😭

Everyone just misunderstands Kageyama in this first ep, when you get sheltered in a competitive sport where losing is fine and being a try hard is toxic, all of Kageyama's words you'll scoff at.. but he meant different with everything he said.

Finally its here, been waiting for this :> Not a fan of sports anime in general cause of how outlandish they can be, fortunately Haikyuu is very grounded, and the character's are amazing so its will be a ride. And as far as the rule goes, don't worry much bout it. Never knew anything bout it when I first watched the show but it does explain it pretty well and at a great pace.

Haikyuu is a great sports anime, you could say it's probably the best sports anime out there. It has good story, characters, development, it's quite realistic which not many sports anime can pull off, it has good animation though it does drop quite a lot in S3 & 4. Honestly what an anime about sports should be which sets the bar for sports anime high and people always compare other sports animes to Haikyuu and how Haikyuu is so much better which is quite annoying and yeah, a lot of people that watch Haikyuu gets spoiled by their fans so good luck on that.

Just a suggestion but I feel that it would be better to watch in dub imo. Like idk I just found it way funnier and more entertaining. Plus there’s a ton of iconic dubbed lines. Do what you want of course and what you prefer but that’s just my own thoughts about it lol. (For example when the guys were mocking Hinata and one of them said “Elementary school” as an insult to Hinata in sub, but in dub the guy said “hE nEeDs HiS mOmMy” in a very joking way that I personally found hilarious. Just a reference lol but again do what you prefer).
