It is so inspiring and wonderful to see him at the height of his powers! He ran those last 6 laps or so all alone and had to make up time! Yes, 3:59 for the last mile? ASTONISHING! The greatest runner ever and a great man. I saw him in Boston indoors a few years ago when he ran the fastest 3000 on U.S. soil and I cried like a baby.

The guy is simply the best, and I proved it right here. His pace setters dropped out early, and he was left running alone for the second half of the race. Running next to someone or behind someone is 100% easier than running alone, and yet he displayed comfortable strides the entire time (sorta). The announcers were totally writing him off, and he still pulled through.

Even today, almost 20 years later, nobody is running close to that speed. Gebrselassie, Bekele, Komen and Tergat were all better than the 5000 runners of today. I don't know why.
@logiatheories25768 жыл бұрын
+pukulu It's a strategic race. You can get some very slow paced races which tends to be the trend these days, when Farah won 10,000m at the Olympics in 2012 the lead pack did 5,000m in 12:50... which is about 20 seconds faster than second place in this race
@pukulu7 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't accuse Bekele, Gebrselassie, Komen or Tergat of doping, although it's not out of the question. Just a couple weeks ago in the 2016 olympics Almaz Ayana ran a time so fast in the 10000 meters that suspicions were immediately aroused, but Cheruiyat's time in that race was also hard to believe. Genzebe Dibaba's coach was detained due to blood doping allegations and could not be in Rio de Janeiro, so it appears that blood doping is not yet a thing of the past.
@PlayboiSharti7 жыл бұрын

The truth is slowly coming out, now that people are finally realizing the E. Africans have been able to avoid all out of season testing for three decades, unlike everyone else in the world. Jama Aden, Gabriele Rosa, Jos Hermens (Geb's main man) and the rest are a bunch of vile turds, doping athletes to the gills. Geb was one of the filthiest cheats of all time, an incredible shame because he was so popular for so long. And now it turns out it was all a lie. He was just a great responder to EPO and other drugs.

Dear Bemo: With hard work and once-in-a-generation talent like his, Haile did not need to dope, not to mention the environmental factors such as having to run every day to school and having had unlimited access to altitude for most of his life time. This is beyond inspirational. Despite the commentator (might be Seb Coe not sure) doubting him the entire time he did it. Just goes to show, that even the best have their skeptics and critics. I understand the announcer was just doing his job and it did seem unlikely at the time to run that fast for the last 3 laps but... 3:59.36 for the last 4 laps...whoa. And years later he's still putting up scary times in the Marathon...you're amazing Geb.
