Haile really pushed the limits to what was possible. Sub 12:40 in 1998 is just absurd. No fancy tech, no fancy shoes. GOAT!

50.2/52.4. Those are some pretty incredible splits for an indoor 800m. Only 2 seconds difference. That's why it's still the world record over 25 years later. And he looked like he was not at his limit. He was just so relaxed and beautiful to watch. Just flowing along the track.

I never forgave MESERETE for that foolish challenge. She knows she is just a TERTIARY LEVEL athlete and a cry baby. FOR what, does she DENY a double gold and after a 10K gold performance she is behind the Golden Girl. This is unethiopian behavior, may be Ethiopian. A Chinese Athlete out of respect let a senior champion win. KENYANs would honor to who owner is due. SHE knew what was at stake A historic DOUBLE GOLD and more. IT is a one time win to a second fiddle. THE Dibaba's still forgave, her cry baby scilly and disagreeable behvior. The Shame is on you.!!

@trackandfieldarchive 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't know being a TWO time Olympic champion and multiple world champion and world record holder made you a tertiary level athlete. Meseret beat Dibaba in both the 2004 and 2012 Olympics so a one-time win? Yeah ok... Meseret is a competitor. Competitors aim to win. Athletics is a competition. It's that simple.
@waterproof4403

@@trackandfieldarchive I agree. Meseret is also the only woman to break 9 minutes for the 2 miles race. She ran 8:58 in 2007. But I also agree with the comment above. Why did Meseret wait to compete only at the 6th race? It kind of feels like personal thing with Tirunesh

He is breaking the world record for the fourth time in the 5,000m (Henglo 1994, Zurich 1995,1997 , and Helsinki 1998) after his compatriot Kenenisa Bekele broke the record at Hengelo in 2004, and still the record is held by Kenenisa for the last 15 years and counting..
