Maybe it’s that I’m a GenXer, but most of what I’m seeing as cutting edge these days we did in the 80’s and 90’s. This cut looks more dated to me than what he came in with.

I never really got “trendy” hair cuts… it’s a relatively long-lasting decision. Hair only grows about half an inch (1.27cm) per month. That’s a big commitment. Hair color and styling are pretty easy to change, but length can take months (if not years) to get back. If you get a short cut JUST before long hair comes back into style, you’re fucked. That’s why I just stick to my standard barber shop hair-down “boy cut.” It looks good short and I can (and often do) go six months without getting it cut. If you like having long hair, don’t cut it just because that’s what’s en vogue.

The style and longer length looks great on him but I can see why the stylist took off length and evened out his mid layers. The way his hair was growing out it wouldn't be long until those mid layers formed what I call a shelf which looks really disjointed and wouldn't compliment this young man's jawline. With the mild reshaping and connection of the mid and bottom layers his wolf cut will look more flowy and voluminous as it grows out then just a super basic trim can keep it going.
