I burst into tears when you said “it’s not just hair”‘I suffer from extreme hair loss now because of Cushing’s Disease. Hair thinning and brittle, bald spots on top, the whole package. What I wouldn’t give to have beautiful hair one day. If you were blessed with beautiful hair, PLEASE take amazing care of it. ❤

Thank you for biting back at the “it’s just hair” comments! As if going through chemo at the age of 37 wasn’t bad enough, I was constantly told “it’s just hair” when I explained that I was using the Cold Cap to help prevent hair loss. It was one of the only things I could control to keep a bit of normality for myself and my young son. It is just hair - until you’re faced with the prospect of not having any. So thank you 😊

If someone telling about your hair ‘it’s just hair’ that’s horrible especially going through alopecia, but if these girls are saying it just hair about their own hair why is such a big deal. If they mess up and cry it’s on them.

Lovely point about the "just hair". My sis in law suffers from stress alopecia, and watching her heart break as her hair came out in clumps, it wasnt just hair for her. She eventually shaved it all off, and she really rocked that look! ❤

Some people don’t even bother with the instructions or making sure they have what they need…so do you really think that these people, in particular, will do research? And if they do, some of them might end up on a poorly explained tutorial and won’t go any further. There’s a lot of info out there; but some people are in a hurry and want results asap. And we get to enjoy some of these fails! 🤓

My mother is full Navajo and the only time her hair had been cut was when she was in a residential school she was 10 when she left and never cut her hair again. About 6 years ago she got Breast cancer due to some scar tissue from her arm being ripped off and sewn back on as a kid and the medication premarin . She started chemo and all her hair fell out . I’ve never seen her so broken or lost in my life . She lost a part of herself .

I used the blondeme and 20 vol developer at your recommendation and my hair feels better now than it did before I bleached it. It’s so Soft, no dead frizzy gummy mess, no snapping, it’s tangle free, silky, shiny and sparkly (after I wash it I also use a tresemme keratin hair oil in the damp hair and I don’t blow dry it to minimise damage). People really need to listen to you more. I never imagined an at home bleach job could end with hair feeling so healthy and soft. 🥳

Speaking as a DIY-er myself..? I’ve never cared if my hair does not absorb the color perfectly EVENLY, all over. I think it’s pretty fun that there are different nuances, anyway! Plus when you apply semi permanent, bright, unnatural dye..? It will just wash out, anyway! So who cares? I actually think her end result turned out pretty cool! Clearly a failure if she wanted UNIFORM, even color, though. It really just depends on what you want! I think just generally speaking, with both haircutting and hair dyeing..? If you are very set on your hair having to end up a VERY specific way, that you’ve envisioned in your head, you should just NOT DIY, period! But if you like experimenting and being adventurous, you like CHANGE, and you’re not all that picky? Plus you enjoy the experience, and are cool with your hair turning out however it turns out? Go ahead and have fun!! That’s always been my attitude, anyway. It’s just hair. It grows out. And if you mess it up TOO badly, you can always just cut it off, or seek out a hairdresser to get it fixed. Not that educating yourself on how to do something, in a way that does not unnecessarily mess up your hair, is at all a bad idea, though. ;)

13:00 ❤❤❤ That's exactly true! And even with no illness. Hair means so much us. Even little kids care about their haircut. It's the most flexible easy thing to chance ones appearance. And how someone's hair looks like says a lot about the person. Think about it. If someone comes around with washed out hair colours and bleached damaged ends. What's the first thing you think about them? Me? I think "Oh I would have likes to see that freshly after they done that." And the second thing is "What a shame they overdo it so much to express their individuality. It looks so dead now. Sadly they clearly can't afford a hairdresser for that." It's a bunch of stuff that I just read out of their hair. It also tells me, that they care a lot about being themselves, which usually means...they weren't allowed to be themselves at one point. See how far this goes? Of course it's just assumptions! You don't know anything until you got to know another person. I guess my point is...that we might be unaware, but we always care about hair. Not being able to just stand up in the morning and comb it and be out the door... but standing there trying to hide bold spots or trying to wrap a scarf around what's left after chemotherapy. It's devastating to me. Can't imagine how it must be for those people

I was blessed with very light blonde hair-as were my kids (although my younger 2 have a hint of “strawberry blonde”). Unfortunately, in my mid-50’s, it started turning 4 different colors: gray, my light blonde and 2 shades of darker blonde. My hair is also EXTREMELY FINE. I remember some friends who owned a salon in the 80’s, trying EVERYTHING to get me a fuller hair style..we ended up perming it. I LOVED it and would have continued to perm my very straight hair..but they warned me about the damage. Anyways, my solution in my 50’s was a light bleaching to even out the coloring..then, my precious late son started sending me colors from Europe, telling me boomers over there were almost all going pink, purple, red, green and blue. I was very light pink for several years..didn’t have the courage to go any darker-or brighter. After he passed suddenly in ‘21, me and my girls, who he was also trying to talk into doing more with color..we started using the purple, blue and green shades. I now have it down to a science..I mix some blue and green and do an ombré effect. With my hair coming in all gray now-it works well! But even better? About 5 years ago, just turning 60..my hair started curling on its own. I don’t understand it and my girls are both jealous. It’s not super curly..but after chemo and radiation, Graves’ disease and likely damage from attempts to curl or lighten; I’m just glad I still have any hair to work with..and I’m thrilled with both my new “beach curls” and turquoise ombré color. Last week I went for an interview at some apartments for Seniors. I had 3 women and a number of gentlemen complimenting my hair and the ladies asked what product I used. While I’m not looking for dates or relationships..I hope those ladies have the courage to start playing! By the time you hit your mid-60’s, you don’t give a darn what folks have to say..when I had a few people online criticize my hair and “wrinkles”- I proudly respond that I EARNED EVERY WRINKLE, Every gray/turquoise hair…and remind them, aging isn’t a choice. Make the most of it and have FUN!
