TBH I wish keratin treatments were more normalized for home use because as a hairdresser lemme tell you: they take an extremely long time and require next to no skill to do. I'd rather my clients do it at home versus spending 250+$ and taking up half my day to do it. Sure, its easy money. But I want it to be WORTH it for my client, not just WORTH IT for me.

I got a keratin treatment for the first time ever back in August (professionally). Best decision I’ve ever made, I went from SUPER puffy hair to being able to just air dry my hair and it looking good.

I cut my hair for the first time ever! (In the 37 years I’ve been on this earth!) and my hair was down to my waist line (straight) but since I have fine curly hair and a bit of alopecia that effects parts of my scalp, my legs,my arms, etc., when it’s long it looks scraggly and blah! I’ve had a financial hardship and a lot of other horrible things that has happened to me in the past year, paying for haircuts and anything like that is more of a luxury as apposed to a necessity. I watched some KZfaq videos and did a pretty damn good job even putting layers in my hair. Thanks for brightening my days when u post videos. U keep my mind of the terrible year or so I’ve had!

I have been getting keratin treatment on colored and bleached hair for over 2 years now to let it air-dry and it never hurt my hair or damaged it, and i have never heard that you can't put keratin on colored hair. Can you make a video explaining why?

Neseine B Because keratin is protein. Our natural hair that grows in is actually composed of keratinized protein naturally. But we lose much of it due to chemically processing our hair, hair being exposed to the elements, heat styling, just many things that damage it in general. However, TOO much protein can be bad for your hair. A protein treatment is not the same as moisturizing or conditioning your hair. The right amount of protein helps to kinda make your hair stronger and less prone to breakage, but it doesn't actually condition the hair. Which is why it's very important after a protein treatment for the hair to be conditionined really well. Anyways, too much protein too frequently can actually dry it out so much that you wind up with breakage. And chemically processed hair (especially lightened) is usually already on the dryer side so protein for dry, porous, chemically treated hair is not necessarily always the answer. Often times, what it really needs is just LOTS of deep conditioning. And well, regular trims/cuts. I'm in Cosmo school going for my license to become a hair stylist. :) I also recently went to a keratin seminar/demo thing and learned a little more about keratin treatments and got my certificate to be able to offer keratin treatments once I'm licensed. Also, there are a variety of keratin treatments/services out there. Not all are entirely the same. I would encourage anyone who's never had one done to do their research on them depending on the state of their hair.

Linda Buchanan is there really such thing as a formaldehyde-free keratin treatment (that works) out on the market? I don’t want to straighten my hair, I just want it to not be frizzy. I would LOVE to let my hair air dry and have it look nice 🙃

Linda Buchanan thank you very much for answering. I take good care of my hair, i do the keratin treatments to let it air-dry and not damage it more with heat everyday so thanks to keratin i haven't straightened my hair for over a year. I really appreciate your in depth answer ♥
