HAITIAN BLACK BEANS AND RICE|| HOW TO MAKE BLACK BEANS AND RICE STEP BY STEP
1 cup of dry black beans
112 oz of water (104 ounces = 14 cups)
1 teaspoon of oil
1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
Boil beans high heat 8
For about 1 hour more if needed
Heat at a 7 ( medium high heat)
1/4 cup of oil
1/2 cup of epis (Best Haitian epis • THE BEST HAITIAN EPIS ... )
Black beans
Bonnet pepper
Parsley and thyme
1 cube of maggie (chicken flavored bouillon)
2 teaspoon of salt
6 cups of black beans water
4 cups rice
1 teaspoon salted butter
Black pepper to your liking
Lower heat to 3( low heat)
Cover with aluminum foil and lid for 45 minutes

Ghanaians have a similar recipe called 'waakye' but cooked without spices and I'm happy to found this recipe so I get to twist it around. love Haitian food!

I am proud of you this is the way you have to do it your mother was teaching you so good only thing you don't have to match it to much the way you put the spoon yes in Haiti isn't for everything you need a measure but you have to use your commonsense or your brain l give you 200/100 sometimes some people like to put coconut🥥 milk if depend the area in Haiti the person came from per example archahaie , leogane that l know. for my area Artibonite you put coconut milk 🥥 rarely

I am a Jamaican, but I ate this on a trip in Martinique! (I met a few Haitian friends who lived there). It was SO delicious and I just have to try this recipe for myself to get a different taste from our own rice and peas. I'll probably reply with an update when I do!

Looks delicious, but it's too much trouble. Nothing anyone wants to deal with after a hard day's work and arthritis. We've done great black beans and rice in minutes with canned beans, herbs, spices, butter, sour cream, pico de gallo, hot sauce, etc.

I seen how you didn’t add salt when ur were cooking the beans in the beginning. Is it okay to add the salt when first cooking the beans so that the water from the beans is already salted ?

Hey try boiling the beans use the beans water to make the rice and dispose of the beans. That way you can still get the color.

Baking soda will give a weird aftertaste to the diri. I can taste the difference how ever small amount have been used.

My stepmom (Haitian) is the first person to get me to eat rice. My whole family is African American ADOS. I hate how we make rice. It’s so 🤮🤢
