Excellent video...I'm an instructor and her style is what I like to teach my students for the most part. This video is very intuitive that I can point to when students "don't really understand"... plenty of beautiful strokes and footwork. I've been following her since she made a fantastic run some four or five years ago and she finally put it together 2 years ago.

Doing what we're all told not to do.Taking the racket back too far behing her.

TNToncourt Definitely more of a WTA style swing. In all of her practices she worked hard and kept her feet moving, regardless of if she had to play later that day. Very impressive work ethic from Simona.

It seems like 99.9% of WTA players bring the racket way back like that. There are lots of pseudo-scientific explanations given for this but know one knows for certain. It might just be that women have breasts and this is the way that feels natural. The fact is the women players hit the shit out of the ball regardless of the back-swing and nothing is going to change anytime soon... And is there really any reason for them to try and develop an ATP compact style forehand? Perhaps they need the extra length to build up power whereas the guys can produce the power with a compact swing and a whip-e-eer action. There are guys like Delpotro who hit similarly to the WTA. Big long strokes.. and he has one of the best forehands ever.

Yes, this is my only criticism of Simona. I think she is great and gifted and think her strokes are good models with the exception of I would try to not take it back quite so high on the forehand and not quite so far back on the forehand and backhand. Basically, just a few inches more compact.
@CJZM7777
@CJZM7777 3 жыл бұрын
Sloane Stevens is the worst about laying the racket way behind her body. I honestly think she would have won more slams if she worked on keeping that forehand loop just a little smaller. Sloane lays it back much more than Simona.

@@donnybrook8951 Del Potro has a swing similar to Simona and he doesn't take it back that far. I am guessing the it is a function of junior girls using bigger swings to generate power to compensate for less muscle. I think it is very possible to have a swing like Simona only a bit more compact.

I'm actually thinking out the pros her technique is not the best! Racket swing back is massive and wrist pronation to stiff. Aaah it's good being a critic
