Little thing you may have missed: when this was shot the actress who plays Jay was actually pregnant. Production used camera tricks, framing, and adjustments to the character"s wardrobe to hide it! Though they could not write it into the current season, the absence of Jay would prove to be a "happy accident", and would lay the foundations for the mythology of the series.

I really enjoyed The Quiet Place, the only things that really stood out as bizzare to me was, firstly their farm fields are impressive in scale and in how orderly it was, especially when you realize they would have had to do it all by hand and without making any noise. Other than that I did like that they were making a sound insulated room for the wife to have the baby in, but my question is, why wouldn't that be their main living space? I mean they are in a world were a coughing fit would be a death sentence, so wouldn't you make your living area as soundproof as possible so your family isn't slaughtered the first time someone coughs, sneezes or drops a pan? Also why haven't they created a shelter by the waterfall? Sure, maybe they wouldn't be able build an actual building there as trying to do so would just make to much noise, but at the very least you would think they had something set up as an emergency shelter, we saw that they stashed things around, like the fireworks, for emergencies but why not have something at the one place you can actually make noise, especially with a baby on the way? As for the power, you could see they had several solar panels on one of the roofs, although I'd like to know how they mounted them without making any noise?

For the sake of human sanity, I'd imagine that it's worth the risk to live most of life on ground level while being as quiet as possible. Dine, read, and play Monopoly in the fresh air. Listen to nature. Have some part of a normal experience in the 6-8 months of the year that it isn't cold as hell (this looks like a Midwestern countryside) and then go underground and live like voles for four months, completely miserable. Maybe they spent the first Summer underground and then also the Winter and realized "I'd rather die than stay down there through this Spring and Summer."

It feels like Blumhouse's using the shotgun approach. They've got a baseline where they can put out these $5 mil horror films and expect like $10-15 mil per on opening weekend. That keeps them going on a steady clip, and then occasionally they get their Happy Death Day big money maker. And that let's them continue funding less experienced directors or riskier ideas (stuff like Get Out).

If John Krasinski is trying to get remembered for literally anything other than the Office, this movie was definitely a good choice. While the parents' relationship wasn't as fleshed out as it could've been (with the whole small scale needs more drama thing), overall I really enjoyed this movie. The little errors in the movie's logic weren't really that apparent to me when I saw it, I think I was just more sucked into the movie. Actually pretty memorable and smart for a wide release horror/thriller whatever the fuck

Yeah I wasn’t thinking too hard about the plot holes. I did a little bit but I was mostly sucked in by the tension of the movie (it’s paced really well. That part in the middle where all the shit hits the fan in particular; three or four separate threads playing off each other quite chaotically, but it’s never hard to follow.)
@jcena32706 жыл бұрын
A Quite Place has plenty of inconsistencies that would generally destroy a film, especially anything with creature-feature based horror. But the execution of the premise and the quick "don't look behind the curtain" brushing aside of the flaws kinda works in its favor. A 90 minute run time with a lot of dead air doesn't leave much room for exposition (or any, really), so there were many shortcuts taken in the world building. I think the simplest thing would've been to scale back the amount of time that has passed to the first few months (to give the powergrid issue some feasibility with visible solar panels). I take it that the extension of the time frame is to add an effect of the misery in silence that the family would have had to endure, especially with all the guilt of the child dying (which was where the main tension could've been between Jim and Emily Blunt, if they had expanded more on this theme of guilt). A little bit of polish here and there, and this film would've been a classic (directors steal all the time, so I'm not so convinced of arguments for "originality"). The trad-life representation was very interesting, as well as the religious overtones peppered throughout.

"Why did they freeze when they made a noise rather than run away?" Because if you try to run, you'll risk making even more noise and having the monster track you down and kill you. It's smarter to freeze and wait for the monster to leave after it doesn't hear the sound anymore.

Well. Not entirely. Sure. It proves that the afterlife is real, on some level. It doesn't confirm that *you* will become a ghost. Even if, it doesn't prove that being a ghost is tranquil or pleasant. It doesn't prove that you *only* become a ghost as opposed to several hundreds of other possible outcomes that could happen in any hypothetical afterlife. To an atheist. Existence of the afterlife is a great thing because you've already arrogantly resigned yourself to the fact that your perspective is correct. To someone who may be a Muslim, or a catholic, or even a Buddhist. There's far worse possibilities than non-existence.
