This is what E3 is missing. Actual fucking piece of fucking gameplay. Showing what the games mechanics are on top of that. Showcasing for almost a half hour is the way to fucking go.

It's fucking depressing to think that a demonstration for HL3 like this one will not happen anytime soon.

I'm convinced that Gabe was from the future.

Valve was so far ahead of their time with this engine, they're just waiting for the rest of the world to catch up before they bother revealing HL3, to push the bar into outer space.

This game looks like it could be good, when does it release?

This game has aged very well. Even today I play it from time to time. There are old games that I can't play anymore, but I still play this game as if it were current. It continues with very beautiful graphics.

The combination of the game audio being louder than Gabe's voice and the unresponsive audience gives this a whole new level of awkwardness.

This got me so hyped back in the day, it was like games were entering a new era, and they were. I think that HL2 changed games more than even HL1. Valve really refined and expanded on the best parts of what they were trying to accomplish in the first game, and perfected the setting and gameplay for each environment.

It's a little disappointing how Gabe's audience is mostly silent other than awkwardly coughing while the audience of Erik Wolpaw's HL2 demonstration was a lot more enthusiastic. Did Gabe's demonstration come before or after Erik's?

I remember the one E3 I attended was the one that unveiled HL2 and this was the demo they showed. Great show, I even met the man who voiced Mario.

It's hard to believe it's been ten years since this demonstration. The technology still amazes me, making it hard to fathom what their new engine could be capable of. Side note: When he grabs the RPG to fight the gunship, he drops the shotgun. Maybe they were kicking around the idea of limiting the number of weapons Gordon could carry.

It's weird to hear Gabe say "Gman" because it's just an unofficial name that fans gave him based on the filename for his 3d model.

Half life 3 has been in development. It's just that Valve is the most tight lipped company ever. Plus, they're trying to find that one thing to give half life 3. After half life, first person shooters changed, and After half life 2, first person shooters changed. They're trying to find some new revolutionary detail to give half life 3. But that's pretty hard in today's world.

It was too realistic and cool to be a 2004 game

Man it's weird to think I will probably get nostalgia someday from the teardown tech demo, I managed to install nolip for it and I could fly around and shoot everything

This presentation is the height of my nostalgic memories. Can't believe it's over 20 years 😥It was that time when we still had no internet at home and my best schoolmate and i went every friday night to the newspaper store and bought the latest gaming magazines that included cd's. We installed the newest Half-Life Mods and the latest mappacks for CS1.6, we couldn't play them online but nevertheless we were still entertained for hours. Then there stood this Gamestar magazine, including this half-hour long presentation on the CD. Man, we sat there with open mouths holding each other and said OMG every few moments. We both never have been so hyped for anything before and afterwards in our lives and i miss these times so terribly. Some months after the release of Half-Life ² a huge cut in my life happened. I was forced to move to another country and terrible things happened there that handicap me to this day. PTSD is constant with me, at every time of a day. The only possible way to have a PTSD-free time is diving into the HL universe. Apart from my partner, Half-Life is the biggest support in my life.

The City maps looked more interesting and looks like there has been serious combat. I prefer those more than retail.

19 years later, we're still waiting for the release

Though this could serve a sort of odd early look at what 3 could be like. They had a lot of good ideas here that they just sort of left behind. Sort of reminds me of when i watched avid on an early halo build and there was a whole lot that got left out that popped up in later games.
