Star Wars: Inside the Tie Fighter

I have decided to create another inside-out animation of an iconic Imperial starship, the Tie-Fighter from Star Wars, all in 3D.
. The Tie Fighter was first introduced in the 1977 movie, Star War A New Hope and was commonly used by the Empire to fight against the rebellion. There are several different variations of the Tie fighter including the Tie Bomber, TIE interceptor, Tie Defender, and the TIE Advanced X1 which was used by Darth Vader but in this episode, I just wanted to focus our attention on the standard Tie Fighter.
The backbone and workhorse of the Galactic Empire, the TIE fighter is identified with the Empire’s influence and power. TIE fighters are manufactured in massive numbers and are assigned to a pilot as an expendable asset, much like the pilots themselves. TIE fighters are considered tools to the Empire’s need, and they were designed to be as efficient as possible for the job they do.
The standard TIE/LN model contains no deflector shields, hyperdrive, or life support system. For this reason, they have a much lower range of operation compared to other galactic space fighters, and often need to be ferried into battle by other vessels, such as the menacing Imperial Star Destroyers, Gozanti class cruisers, or the Quasar Fire class carrier.

@@BungieStudios "They have advanced sensors" Do they? Oh, okay. You know this is fiction right? Expressing an opinion on how well a pilot can fly on "instruments only" is... well, not even guesswork, not even informed speculation... It's just sheer making shit up. You'd have to fly one to know, and I doubt you've done that.

@@charliehorse8686 Bro, why are you getting riled up over fiction then? lol Star Wars might take place in the past but everything they have is more advanced than anything we have today. It's reasonable to assume they have features similar or better than our pilots today. Sensor technology is not new to Star Wars. What we see onscreen is a combination of 70s~ style props/tech coupled with imagination on a limited but effectively used budget.

I like these videos and the animated assembly of the ships/fighters with the title of their parts and weaponry and engines. I am 50 now, and I remember my mom and dad, my sister and I going to see Star Wars back in 1977 at the movie theater at the once existing Cloverleaf Mall, in Chesterfield County, VA and The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 and Return Of The Jedi in 1983. I do miss that Theater Popcorn and butter with the soft drinks aka Sodas. I've cut out the sodas with syrup and drink the clear ones like Ginger Ale and Sprite as, well as Unsweetened Ice Tea.

The Special Forces Tie Fighter was a lot better. Special Forces TIEs were equipped with hyperdrives to enable the fighter to go on long-range missions far from a base or carrier ship, enhanced deflector shields, and high-yield cells that provided additional power to onboard systems, which were necessary because of its more powerful weapons and stronger shields. Plus it had a gunner to cover the pilot’s six. (Technically they are both pilots who have the ability to fly the tie fighter but the gunner obviously played the combat systems officer role).

It makes more sense to have the wings be radiators to get rid of the immense waste heat, similar to the reason the X-Wings had S-foils. Solar energy would be highly variable and render the TIE useless in dark parts of space, and there would be extremely minimal retcon involved: literally, the energy goes the opposite direction, and the panels are just radiator grills.

@@Halfscreen Isn't it? Also, the engines are WAAAYYY undersized for such a craft, especially when compared to the rest of the starfighter models. And the huge, non-folding solar panels would make it an absolute nightmare to maneuver in atmosphere. Not to mention that they'll only work when there's an actual sun in operational range, being dead weight otherwise. And literally no other space ship in Star Wars having solar panels except this one. But hey, at least it looks interesting when seen through an aiming reticle, right? Though without those huge solar flaps, the small ball-shape of the TIE would actually make it quite hard to hit.
@Halfscreen

@@axelhopfinger533 LOL, the engines are definitely too small and the solar power wings don't make any sense since, under battle conditions, they may not be even close to a star. Maybe they need to upgrade to Tesla batteries. 😁

The thing that people keep forgetting about TIE Fighters is that they were designed for customs enforcement and chasing pirates. They were also 15+ years older than the X-wings. So like fighting WWII propeller planes against Vietnam era jets. Also the empire had 72 on each of the 25,000 star destroyers and tens of thousands more on orbital and planetary based while the rebellion never had more than a couple of hundred X-wings and A-wings plus the 20year old Y-Wing bombers.

I always felt the solar panel wings were just dumb since the days of the old X-Wing game. They would never make enough power to run a fighter. They should instead be heat radiators to release excess heat from the lasers and engines, that would make more sense. It should have it's own built-in power source (probably fuel cells or something). The Fuel Tanks seem really small for the Tie Fighter too, and it will need propellant tanks for the Ion engines, but eh, it's Star Wars. Thanks for showing the design!

isn't those panels shields? When I play TIE fighter collector edition I have to set power to shield ratio. Solar panels? How efficient is the conversion when most stars are long way away from the positions of the battles, unless they pick the battleground close to a sun...

@@barackclinton568 thing is, the Casimir effect is even smaller then if you'd used modern-day calculator PV panels, let alone high-grade silicon cells used in spacecraft where weight is more important than cost. the video (and other media) indicates they do double duty as both emissive radiator and solar collector. the reactors in the middle of each wing probably tap the fuel reserve for power in some way to suplement. they don't have a ton of power, though, pilot has to wear a full space suit...

@@DFX2KX maybe a kasimir effect more powerful than we know of today.
