You Can't Eat The Grass

You Can't Eat The Grass

2 жыл бұрын

We are halfway through the farm season, and this year has both positive and negative aspects. On the positive side, sales have been better than we hoped, and within reach of our long term sales goals for the farm. These strong sales show us that there is a viable business and a future for our farm, and it seems like streamlining the business model to focus on flower sales was the right move for us. On the negative side, we are falling behind on all of our infrastructure projects, and farm expansion. Our summers are short here in Canada, and if we are going to get some of this stuff done then we need to make time for it. So this week, that's what we are going to do, we are working extra hard to make time to do the farmers market with a full selection of flowers, and we are going to find the time to work on some of our projects.
__________
Ian and Serina of YOU CANT EAT THE GRASS feel that every small change can make a big difference to the world we live in. Every garden planted leads to a better future. We hope to inspire and motivate others to make positive changes in their lives by sharing our journey towards greater sustainability as we build our family farm. It's hard work to build a life worth living, and completely worth it!

I still say that this year's bouquets are the BEST you've ever made! The quality, variety, and bouquet design of your flowers has suddenly exploded. Loving that you are getting to grow as a floral designer due to the lack of sunflowers this year. I think your gorgeous Rudbeckia is a welcome site for anyone burned out on sunflowers in bouquets at this point. I personally like them over sunflowers!

Hi! I wanted to thank you for your true stories, for your youtube work. Our family (two kids as yours) is growing organic flowers and veggies. We sell at the market, stores, do weddings, florists. We have one employee. And we are tired, angry, to do list long... and your stories always shows me that it's worth it. That we are not alone. That you have the same troubles. Thank you once again. Greetings from Czech Republic!👋

Hi, guys. Just testing out a marketing idea for you. Branding your bouquet of flower by sticking a small but visiblle red roof sticker with a small youtube logo. on each bouquet. As the customer walks away with you bouquet of flowers. Prople around would see those beautiful bouquet and also would have a glimps of your red roof brand sticker. And recognize that its from a local hardworking famous youtuber. Im sure people would search for you store just to have a collection of your flower...... But its just an idea to crank up more marketing sale.

Do you leave the stands door open with the A/C on? If so, wouldn’t it be better to put a storm door installed on the inside of the door frame? Then you could hang a shade cloth to prevent the sun from shining in and keep the flowers fresh.

Another great video flowers are gorgeous. To increase efficiency you need to cut down on steps. Ever time you start a new task figure out how to cut down on walking. Thus is what I do at work. Cuts down on wear n tear on your body too A gater would be super helpful. Keeping the buckets closer. Get a camera for the stand. I would hang some sheer curtains in the doorway , would cut the sun, but still be inviting.

Ian that was very very relatable. We bought a tractor in beautiful condition so that we wouldnn't have to put a lot of work into it and I called it my employee, and it had the gear shifter break 10 min into a big job, which we have now completely...by hand....sigh. My Grandparents lived in British Columbia and I have fond memories of being told to go to bed in the Summer but it was still light outside and my siblings and I would giggle and talk in bed, LOL The flowers look Fabulous. Have you ever thought of connecting with the local Colleges and Universities or High Schools as Agricultural and Business students need clinical sites to get experience. That way you can get help and the students would get experience. Also, if all those students got together they could probably get the Green House/Tunnel built in a weekend or something like that🤗 I also wonder if you got a glass door for the road side stand, that way you could Keep the air conditioning on but the product would show through the glass door and that way you could have more Bouquets in the stand. Of course still keep the regular door for when you need to lock everything up. I’m glad to hear your idea Focusing on the flowers this year has surpassed what you thought it would do

harvesting early in the morning / at night is the best you could do ...for long lasting bouquets. I admire your courage and dedication.

Since last week, my favorite bouquet is PINK. They are gorgeous!! And so happy your business is thriving. You can't eat the grass, but you can sell it and turn it into money

i have suggestion regarding the sun coming through the front door of the roadside stand. i keep my front door open now because i bought an extension rod and a long white shear curtain to put up in the doorway. now i keep the door open and my plants get nice filtered light. 😉

I think straw flowers should be your flower of the year! The color on them is incredible and they’re so versatile. I would take it entire bouquet of just those

I defiantly think farming is constant maintenance. Something no matter how new or old is needing to be replaced or fixed or something. You both are so awesome. Have a great rest of the season. -
