I scream at myself when there's nobody else to fight I don't lose, I don't win If I'm wrong, then I'm halfway right Used to get high with the dead end kids Abandoned houses where the shadows lived I never been higher than I was that night I woke up driving my car I couldn't see then what I see right now The road dissolving like an empty vow Couldn't remember where I'd been that night I knew I took it too far All you said to do was slow down I remember, now I remember All you said to do was slow down But I was already gone I scream at myself when there's nobody else to fight I don't lose, I don't win If I'm wrong, then I'm halfway right I know what I want, but it feels like I'm paralyzed I don't lose, I don't win If I'm wrong, then I'm halfway right (Halafway right) Told me, kid, you're going way too fast You burn too bright, you know you'll never last It was bullshit then, I guess it makes sense now I woke up driving my car Said I'd lose you if I lost control I just laughed because what do they know? Here I am standing all alone Because I took it too far All you said to do was slow down I remember, now I remember All you said to do was slow down But I was already gone I scream at myself when there's nobody else to fight I don't lose, I don't win If I'm wrong, then I'm halfway right I know what I want, but it feels like I'm paralyzed I don't lose, I don't win If I'm wrong, then I'm halfway right (Halfway right) Na, na-na, na-na na-na-na Na-na, na-na, na, na-na Na, na-na, na-na na-na-na But I was already gone I scream at myself when there's nobody else to fight I don't lose, I don't win If I'm wrong, then I'm halfway right Na, na-na, na-na na-na-na Na-na, na-na, na, na-na Na, na-na, na-na na-na-na But I was already gone I scream at myself when there's nobody else to fight I don't lose, I don't win If I'm wrong, then I'm halfway right

You are special your music is out of this world and your voice is just unique there will never be anyone better than you in this world there just isn't. I've listened to your voice and mikes and just the music for a long time now and has given me those few hours of freedom to pull out of myself and just sing along with you guys over the years and I've got your music to fall on when I need my escape still. It isn't the same though. Thank you for everything. Thank you for the hard times you helped pull me out of when I needed the extra push. We will forever miss and love you Chester. You are unique. Would like further explanation of "that brother". Because I may be that brother. The black sheep, an outcast. Left on the streets by those who are supposed to love you unconditionally. That family is never going to see me again, at least, not in person. I'll become famous too like Linkin Park and they will see me everywhere. I'll make sure they never forget what they did. Twenty years ago I was born of love And as the years wore on I've found it's not enough A father I barely knew Mother on her own It didn't take me long To know I was alone And then I came of age My heart made of glass I watched the others play As many years drift pass I'll be famous one day And their love will all be mine Still the only way To heal my heart is time I'm just a loveless lovechild Destiny calls me and I'll Silently take my exile They're love has made my heart vile

To all the haters.. Are you the same person you were twenty years ago? If so, that's pretty fucking sad. If you, in fact, have matured since the late 90s, then why do you complain about your favorite musicians growing the fuck up, changing, adjusting to life, and representing those changes in their art? We listen to and love their music because their work is incredibly powerful and it helps us to enjoy the good times and survive the bad times. We owe it to these artists to let them just live their lives, instead of burdening them with our desires and yearnings to recreate a past that is long gone. Many artists like Chester make their music so that they can escape their past and deal with the lasting pain in a way that infuses their music with such beauty and honesty. Now that our friend has passed on, let's all wish him the peace that he couldn't find here on Earth, knowing that we love him and we allowed him to be himself and to just share his light with us, if only for a little while.

Sharika Basit Thank YOU, Sharika, for your sentiments. We all grieve when someone who brought us so much joy in our lives ends theirs because they couldn't find that same joy in anything. Even that beautiful gift of art that God granted them. So we take solace in the fact that their art will live on. And in it, so will they.

Sharika Basit I feel you, hon. I know the pain of losing a loved one to suicide first-hand. My best friend, who was also my fraternal twin brother, killed himself back in 1994 when we were just twenty-one years old. The pain never goes away. But neither does the love, the great memories, the joy, and the promise to honor him in everything I do and in everything I accomplish. That's how I keep his memory alive.
@DocBrown3000
@DocBrown3000 6 жыл бұрын
Sharika Basit Yeahh. Depression is cumulative in nature. Once the negative ideation begins in the subconscious mind, it has a way of accelerating and becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. When events in life cause you to doubt yourself, your worth, and your very life, it becomes increasingly difficult to be convinced that the thoughts and fears aren't real and that life is actually good and can be better. My brother was my rock. We had each other's back in ways that only twins could. He was wise, tough, confident, and bold. But there was a lot going on in our family and in our individual lives at the time regarding everything.. college, jobs, defining ourselves as individuals, preparing for adulthood. Everything. And as strong as he was, he also had the warmest heart imaginable. He'd be the one telling me to stay focused. I was half an hour older than he, but those who didn't know we were twins thought he was older. Everybody knew him, loved him, and respected him for his talent, his intelligence, and his strength. It just so happened that he was so busy being strong, he couldn't allow his feelings of depression to be known. And that is just too often the case. I as his best friend didn't know the extent of the stress he was going through. I had no idea. At all. What makes things worse is that depression runs in my family. And coming from a Ghanaian family and growing up in America, I know the cultural taboos regarding depression, and how they compound the problem and prolong the pain. It has to stop. So, may the untimely deaths of Chester, Chris Cornell, Capital Steez from Pro Era, and the too great number of other vibrant creative spirits whose flames burned out tragically early from suicide keep our hearts focused on love, emotional strength through adversity, and making room for those in our lives who are our rock to lay their burdens down and just be completely honest with their pain. Love will heal it. Wow.. I thank you, Sharika. I got really emotional as I wrote this. Didn't think I would. Thank you, hon. It's always ultimately a very liberating feeling. Because after the wave of pain from memories of his passing, comes the joy in reminiscing about all the great times we had, and then comes the comfort and empowerment in knowing that I represent him in all I do and that his spirit truly never left. And never will.

It is so sad that only 3 years ago Chester felt he had to die rather than seek help! Lets destigmatize ppl with mental heath issues. The facts r the majority of us will suffer some mental illness in our lifetime! So compassion 4 yr fellow man woman bc the stigma associated with asking for help is hard and for men even more pressure as a man is shamed by society for asking for help. u know wat Im sayn ppl. If I had lived 150 years ago, I know I would have been sent to an insane asylum. And I only had simple depression!!!!!

@@janemckenzie7279 Chester DID seek help. He was doing great too. Right before he died, he had been totally off alcohol, totally sober for 2 months. (Note when I say this next part, I am paraphrasing from an interview with Talinda Bennington, Chester's wife.) When she got home, she saw two beer bottles on the floor, and knew that he was not drunk enough for it to be because of the intoxication, but because he had had a relapse. It was not the alcohol that drove him to kill himself, it was the shame of that relapse. In comments I have seen at least 5 different ways Chester died, from an OD to murder. If this is more BS, which I am almost certain it is not, do a fact check. Make sure. I don't want to be that ass that spreads bullshit about a great soul, which Chester was

"Wherever you are, Chester Bennington." I think you believe in the after life. You just don't want to admit it to yourself. Or maybe you're the type of person who believes in something or Someone but doesn't go to church. But yeah, he will always be remembered. I believe that he's free from all the pain the world gave him. Although I would also like to believe he's now in heaven where all the good people, especially the great musicians are.

"What makes you think I do believe in whatever there is after we die? Lol" By saying "wherever you are, Chester Bennington." If you don't believe in the afterlife, you wouldn't say that. Unbelievers believe that when we die, that's the end of everything. A human body is like a computer that shuts down when you turn it off. When we die, we simply stay buried. There are no souls. At least that's how atheists think. Anyway, I'm not here to debate or argue with you. I'm just saying that your comment contradicts your unbelief (your being an atheist).

This band is growing like people do and so, their songs will too. One more light is a great album. Every song I can listen too and not need to skip it. That's been so hard for me to find since I can remember and I'm 31.

I remember one critic saying that the problem of One More Light wasn't that it was a pop album, but that it's empty of the things they did in their first two albums. To that critic, is that really any different? Why are you comparing two different types of fruit in a basket as if they're supposed to be full-on similar? What's with relegating the status of the band to a certain genre they didn't declare themselves as all because of their first two albums? It's crap like this that'll kill off those hit artists from the music industry and possibly from this world prematurely. Please, and I mean please... stop being blinded by nostalgia so much that you end up saying that a new album sucks all because it doesn't sound like most of their previous hit albums. Wherever you are Chester, rest easy and enjoy yourself. You've influenced many generations very well. Hoping to see you again sometime.

Cannot believe how much this song has grown on me. The pre-chorus ("All you said to do was slow down ...") especially has serious lasting power as an earworm. Now I think this is one of the catchiest songs on the album!

I have decided to share my review regarding the battle between the current situation on Linkin Park, the album, the fans and the subjects in between. I'm not sure how many of you will read to the end of it. But i really wanted to take my chances to represent my ideas in a group where i have seen accountable behaviors. There are numerous claims by those who dislike the new direction of Linkin Park.The interesting point about those claims are that majority of them are out of sense.They are unrealistic. They are a result of idiotic stereotypes. People say Linkin Park is a Sell-out. That itself is a creation out of the stereotypes. Sellout definition: "Selling out" is a common idiomatic pejorative expression for the compromising of a person's integrity, morality, authenticity, or principles in exchange for personal gain, such as money. Everybody must ask themselves, "Is this really what Linkin Park did?" If your answer is yes. Be sure your answer is based on stereotypes. Linkin Park would be a sell out if they would listen to the fans. Because in that sense they are trying to create a material that a float of fans are desiring and they are ready to spend money on the record. People are forgetting that a music band is not a restaurant so you walk in, order your favorite piece of music, they make it, deliver it and then you pay for it. An artist must pour their heart, soul, spirit, feelings and emotions into a record and play the instruments accordingly. In order to create a piece of music that feels right and the artist can feel the most comfortable with. Then they release it with so much enthusiasm with this hope that peole would enjoy it and connect with it as much as possible. This is the pure enjoyment and privilege of being an artist. To surprise yourself and the listeners. Let's never forget that music is a combination of several factors. Musical aspect and lyrical aspect. The vibe, the meaning and the message that the music is trying to send. Please think about it for few minutes. Ask and answer this question: " Isn't this what Linkin Park have done " ? They take risks. They mix various sub-genres together. They always make what they are comfortable with. They trying to enjoy music first before creating it because they love doing what they doing. So, How this can be called a "Sell-out" ? Linkin Park took risk from the start of their career. They tested nearly 43 times here and there and no studio label was ready to invest in them. Because when you look at the material they wanted to create. It was out of logic and music theory. You listen to Hybrid Theory. Track two is " One Step Closer " an aggressive crafted music. Heavy and sharp. Track eight " In The End " is firmly a synthesizer-based song with a Hip-Hop structure in it. Track thirteen " My December " a very softly-crafted music. This is one of reasons that studios could not accept Linkin Park, because they couldn't identify where this band stands. Moreover, Linkin Park brought in " DJ" and "Disks" in rock music. A very unfamiliar new element that does not entirely make sense. The root of Linkin Park always have been taking risks and making hybrid music. The list of stereotypes that i am observing get marked by people constantly: 1.Pop is famous music. 2.Linkin Park making pop because it is trendy so they can make money. 3.Linkin Park wants teenage fans like 12 years old. Pop is for teenagers. 4.Linkin Park is making pop. Linkin Pop. 5.Pop is shit music -I don't even know what famous music means. There have never been a concept such as this. So Rock is underdog and Pop is famous. Attention, It's music not a battlefield. We should not make it personal. -I already explained this part above -New information for me. Since when music genre found a very specific age? Music does not have an age limit. Any age can listen to any music.There is no regulation regarding this. -Meanwhile, One More Light is not even pop. It has pop roots but it is not pop. It's Alternative/Indie Rock. Indie Rock is sub-genre of Alternative Rock. Alternative Rock itself is a sub-genre of Rock. Now, Linkin Park used Synthesizers in a different dimension for this album. But this is not the first time. Synthesizers are part of Linkin Park's root. Mr.Hahn had this role since Hybrid Theory as the start. This time around. They decreased the guitar cores and transformed synthesizers ahead of the line. We have two basic sub-genres of Synths. Synth-Pop, this genre inspired experimental musicians to create and give birth to Synth-Rock several years ago. This album One More Light is a mix of Linkin Park's usual Synthesizers, Alternative rock and 80's indie rock. It's also a new experience and a new work in Linkin Park's skin. -How pop is shit? Isn't that a Pre-Judging and a prejudice behavior? Pop is a home of legends like Michael Jackson, Shakira, George Michael, Celine Dion, Samantha Fox, Sandra, ect Pop is a music genre like any other. But constantly bashing a genre with no logical reason is nothing but a growing stereotype. Even if few artists here and there are doing wrong. Using many auto-tunes and correcting-devices or crafting empty music in terms of musical and lyrical aspects.That should not destroy the image of Pop genre itself. There are many well-crafting pop artists out there as well. If we don't focus on hate and desire to see all angles. So even if Linkin Park creates a pop album. It's Linkin Park. What this has anything to do with other bad pop artists? It's LP. It's different. Furthermore, it's really sad to see people generalize every soft-crafted song as pop and slamming instruments aggressively none-stop means music. I believe that's noise not music. Our global society is suffocating by stereotypes. As well as lack of enough education and understanding in what they listen but instead, they prefer to just fill the crowd and blend in. At that point. I would really say RIP to us as a society if this is how we feel the most comfortable to be. I do know everyone have different opinions. That is how it should be. It's entirely respectful. I have no intention to disrespect anyone but only stating my view respectfully. Furthermore, if you dislike Linkin Park's new direction or a certain type of music. It would be so amazing if you do it civil, calm politely and logically. Focus on what you love than spreading hatred constantly. Calling Linkin Park members with names, cursing them and bashing them rudely only shows how low you are in value. Thank you for reading. :)

Mahir Daiyan - Oooh, I applaud your review. Whether I agree with it or not (and I do), it was still really well thought out and explained pretty thoroughly. You made a lot of good points, and touched on a lot of common topics regarding the album. Your review actually broke down genres into sub-genres and took a closer look into HOW the music was made, not just WHY. I really appreciate your uh... music appreciation. And I am impressed. Honestly, I had a class in 6th Grade called "Music Appreciation", and I remember thinking it was the stupidest and most useless class ever, back then... But this band alone, over time, has made me realize that appreciating music is the only way you truly enjoy music. I was almost closed off to LP back when they released Minutes to Midnight in 2007, because it was so drastically different from Meteora (my favorite album then), but I pushed myself to give them a chance. Now I don't care what they make... I trust that they'll make anything sound good, BECAUSE their individual sound as a band is so unique. And now, when I see comments like that, hating them for experimenting... it makes me very sad, that more people can't be as open to change like I was. I mean... They're also 40+ years old now. It's a miracle they're even still together and making albums at this point... if anything, at least appreciate THAT. You COULD just not be getting new Linkin Park stuff AT ALL. *PS. Currently, I couldn't tell you what my favorite album is. I LOVE A Thousand Suns because it sounds like a cinematic soundtrack (to me), but Living Things was nice too, although a bit short. I actually also really like M2M now too - it took me 7 years, but now I realize that album is really fun to sing along to!

All the haters out there already don't know what they're talking! Though this is pop music, it's still better than all the other pop songs played in the radio. This album has still it's unique Linkin Park style, the songs are not getting boring even after hundred times of listening to them, that's different to "normal" pop music. Again Linkin Park made a special listening experience out of this genre.

A lot of people didn't like this album when it first came out, only to jump back on the bandwagon after Chester's untimely passing. I loved it then and still love it now. There are some solid tracks on this record. Hybrid Theory and A Thousand Suns (and maybe even Minutes to Midnight) I believe are some of the very best alternative albums of the 21st century, so yeah maybe OML doesn't quiet reach those heights but it's still great. In particular, the title track and this song are just amazing. So simple, yet powerful and emotional. This is one of the most bare and honest songs you will ever hear. Halfway Right takes us through Chester's past and his many struggles with depression and addiction, that he still struggled with and shows us what ultimately killed him.

Been a fan since around 2001, grew up listening to HT on repeat and I genuinely think this is one of the best songs they've ever made. It's so good. It's absolutely gorgeous. The mixing and production, the lyrics, the melody, Chester's vocals, it's perfect.
