Third gear was too much with a near full wagon going uphill. Had to use second.

Awesome! There's just something so neat about picking ear corn. Classic old American farmin'. Love seeing an old crib full of ear corn. That oats and ear corn feed sounds like the ultimate calf meal!

Benjamin Turner yep the calves do well on it.

That (corn on the ground) may be happening in the header. In tough corn sometimes the stripper bars need to be set a little closer to keep the buts from shelling. We retired a picker once because we could not get it to stop shelling on the ground like this.

Well luckily I didn't have a lot to do just a couple loads. Pheasants have to eat too I guess.

Corn& Cob Meal Is a great cattle mixture and the You've got the Corn stalks to feed later. What is Your Calf Creep Feed formula using oats. If You could explain the mixture in a 2000# batch. This would make a good growing ration for growing bulls Enjoyed the video.

I don't have a scale on the grinder but I use about 15 bushel oats and the rest ear corn. A little soybean meal and molasses to make it smell good.

We pick a few hundred bushel of ear corn to bag and sell. A couple years ago, we had a variety that husked nicely, however, it butt shelled too much. Since then, our current corn variety is a tough husker, but it never butt shells. Moisture doesn't affect the husking, wet or dry, its tough.

Why does the corn shell out when you pick it, is there a way to stop that. We are thinking of picking all of our instead of shelling because it's cheaper to dry what's your thoughts
@AgWildNebraska4 жыл бұрын
This was pretty dry when I picked it. 15-16%. You'll get more butt shelling in drier corn. Also it was humid out. Actually kind of foggy so the stalks and husks were tough so it didn't pick as easy. Took more to get the ears ripped off the stalk and so it shelled more. Does that make sense?

New Idea pickers shell more than others in dry corn. The IH 234 mounted picker and the JD 300 had stripper plates which snaps the ears better, but the days of ear corn picking were in the decline by the time they came out...
