Here's a cheap an easy Halloween DIY a Halloween decoration idea of making store bought Halloween tombstone decorations a little better with a Halloween makeover. Adding some creepiness and realistic looking details to make them extra spooky this Halloween season. Making foam tombstones and props from dollar store and dollar tree that tend to be a bit are smaller bigger and thicker is an easy way to make your graveyard display a little spookier. See several Halloween decoration ideas that customize and make the dollar store Halloween tombstone decorations look even better for your outdoor haunted cemetery yard display, haunted house, or home haunt. We really wanted to make a all in one ultimate Halloween tombstone tutorial for beginners and everyone with or without tools. We try many different methods and make suggestions for other possibilities. All these techniques and ideas are easy and doesn't have to cost much if you use stuff laying around. Not to mention there are so many ways you can get these results you're sure to achieve the right look for your haunt. We customize Styrofoam graveyard tombstones by either doubling them up together or adding thicker foam sheets behind. We glue everything together using great stuff expanding foam insulation from the local hardware stores. We even add some larger bases below some of the Halloween gravestones for a realistic variety that you would see in a real haunted and spooky cemetery. We add weight, PVC pipe, and metal rebar to go into the ground so it stays put and doesn't fly off in the wind to the neighbors yard. Last we give them each a custom paint job to look more like real stone and spray glue dollar store moss to the sides for that last finishing scary touch. We had so much fun on this project that time just flew by we ended up with this super long video. So sit back, relax, get some ideas and maybe a even a couple laughs. We hope you enjoy.

I do to. I do up my entire yard, but my wife doesn't get involved at all. It's gotten to the point that it's starting to become far too much work for one person, but I just can bring myself to give it up.

Moss grows on the DARK side of the rock. In the North hemisphere, it would be the North side because the sunlight comes from the South, but in the South hemisphere it would be the South side.

Nice tutorial. I've been thinking about what to do with my old 99 cent tombstones. One quick suggestion: Grab a 1x4 piece of scrap wood, drill your pvc holes in it and use it as a template for future tombstones. You can then use it when placing rebar into the ground. It helps me when designing my cemetery scene by swapping out gravestones from place to place without have to reinstall the rebar for each tombstone. :)

This is exactly what it’s like when I’m trying to work on props with my kids around... only now they’re getting to be old enough to help me. Your video was one of the most informative I’ve seen on this subject, but also made me feel like I was just hangin’ out with some friends. Thanks for sharing!

We don't finish work as fast as we used to but the little ones make it better. I always feel like I'm forgetting things now but that could also mean I'm just getting older. We have always tried to be ourselves with the hopes that others felt like they were just hanging with us so that's really nice to hear. Thank you very much for your kind words it means a lot.

Awesome!! I grew up with decorations for every holiday, no matter how small. Halloween was always my favorite. The creepier, the better. But, I can no longer decorate like I used to, due to some health issues. So, I'm handing down all my skulls and creepiness to my daughter. She is the heir to my 'witch hat.' She's crazy about Halloween. I've trained her well. 😉 I have nothing bad to say about any of your awesome tombstones. Every one of them gets a 10!! I thought of an idea, though. Not sure if it would look OK. You could take one of your handy-dandy skewers and etch some squiggly cracks into the foam to make it look cracked. Or, draw them on with a black sharpie after the paint dries, and smudge them ever so slightly with a cloth so they wouldn't look so defined and to make it look like it's shadowed a little. Just a thought. Thanks for the video! You just got another sub! Happy Halloween!! 💀😱🎃☠️👻

Just an idea... I went to a local hot tub dealer and asked if they had any old/used hot tub covers? And all I had to do is separate the aluminum bits from the Styrofoam and I could take the foam for free then you get 6 headstones from each full cover.

Can also leave the Wooden skewers in the foam and just clip off the ends. After that you push them into the foam a bit past the face and fill hole end with putty. Then you have the added strength of the wood bits in the joint without seeing them.

Just watched your video. Great ideas for the cheap tombstones that like to fly away in a good wind. As for finish work. I found using Rustolium Granite spray paint for a base color and the mist with a flat black really mimics the old stone color. I have also use the Stone paint you can buy at any box store or Walmart. Use this for the base and then color how ever you like. The stone paint also will hide the edges where your layers come together. Keep up the good work.

The 6 year old handed me stuff over the weekend as I was setting up the fence. However repackaging my screws from a box into plastic bags meant to be in the recycling was not so helpful lol.

If anyone was naive like me, that's shedding blade he uses to surface the styrofoam headstone. Decker makes one. Shed n Blade makes another. Look up multi loop shedding blade for those interested.

@@HollywoodHaunter I tried that and the first thing on Amazon showed was rotary saw blades. Then I went to Amazon and Bing. You guys are awesome btw! You, Stillbeast, and Drachenfang help out so much with making props! I did a small haunt last year just around the house. It was like a 2 compared to what you guys do. One thing I haven't seen: I took the swirly motion lights from Spirit and put them on 10ft long PVC pipes (the thick ones, I think 3"), mount them, drill holes in the pipes, and zip tie the lights in. I found when people walk in front of them they cast a huge shadow, but putting them in trees or on my cheap light stands there's basically zero shadow. And I've used old cell phones and cheap blue tooth speakers for the creepy music.

Hey guys!! Happy to see the kid working on his 'Harrison's Fiberglas Revue'. I'm glad you can still do a few props here and there. PS that's a fun EPS rock background!

Love watching how you both improved the store purchased tombstones. I learned a lot. As to your question, which side of the tree moss grows on? I live in the Ozarks, very humid here, and moss grows on all sides of the trees including branches. As to figuring which direction is North, face the sun early in the morning (East) and your left shoulder is pointing North.

Wow. The "Stones" look so much better now. For me they would look even better if you could see a bit of engraving, like a tiny bit of a skull or a name or a date. Then again one would never presume a Dollar Store item in here. 👍👍👍

Awesome Video!!. You guys do wonderful stuff. I have a few questions... what is the wood handle scrapper tool you guys used/where can I find one....2nd question have you used Drylock instead of flexbond? Does one work better than the other?
@HollywoodHaunter
@HollywoodHaunter 5 жыл бұрын
The scrapper is a curry horse comb, you can find them at pet stores or tack and feed for livestock. Drylock would also work to weather proof. The texture is the only thing that would be different.

Such great ideas and a great tutorial! I'm in England and your tombstone could be mistaken for ones I've seen in centuries old cemeteries here, they are gorgeous and so realistic! Love the moss too! (Harrison is adorable and I predict he will be a great haunter in the future!)

Moss does grow on the north side , in the northern hemisphere but tends to grow on the south side in the southern hemisphere.

How hard would it be to build one of those heated foam cutter things? I have easy access to a soldering iron and some metal clothes hangers. 😀

I might have to do this, it's cheap compared to other tombstones, if you already have scrap wood is like 3 dollars per tombstones

Yes, we prefer wood as well but know this would be helpful since not everyone works with wood. Thanks for watching 🎃
