Spoilers for Halloween Kills below: The murders that Michael committed in the original 1978 film must have brought a lot of outrage with how brutal they were in a small town like Haddonfield where maybe everyone knows each other in some sort of way. To find out that same murderer is loose and is killing again, I can totally buy that the older people in the town(like Tommy, Lonnie, etc.) would be furious and want to hunt him down. There were a couple of decisions in the film I thought didn't make sense. Like when Lonnie, Cameron and Allyson got to the Myer's house, wouldn't it have been better to call for backup from Tommy? Lonnie just died for basically no reason and his son too, which sucks.

The problem is, the town's reaction of "we"re sick of this shit" isn't warranted because they haven't experienced countless Halloween murders. There was ONE night of murders, forty years earlier. But if you want me to believe that this was a very memorable case of murders that his lived on in enduring town wide trauma, then the residents would surely know what Michael looks like, from his arrest and trial, etc. There is no way they would confuse him with the fat little hobbit dude they were trying to attack.

I agree. They clearly didn't have enough modern-day story for two films, so they should have made this film entirely in 1978, then tell the final modern day story in Halloween Ends. It would have been totally original to set the film in 1978, simultaneously a sequel to Halloween original and as a prequel to Halloween 2018. But originality isn't something studios are interested in.

One of the many problems I have with this movie and the 2018 film is the lack of stalking. In the original film, he chooses his victims carefully and then waits till the time is right to kill them. He slowly picks them off one by one and doesn't just kill them at the first opportunity. There is a method to his madness. That's a part of his character that was missing in these new films.
@abigailnichols8872 жыл бұрын
I mean, I can kinda see it. Although with the three kids on the swing set they said he was "popping in and out" of their sight, like he was sort of toying with them. I think they got at least that point right in the movie -- and the car scene was another reference to the first one where he jumped onto Marion's car. I appreciate that they put in a lot of references to the og, but the film HEAVILY relies on nostalgia instead of making it it's own thing, which I think is why I prefer 2018 a little more lmao
@tdpmayhemyt7 ай бұрын

@brandonspain123452 жыл бұрын
Everything is too convenient, coincidental, and ironic. The characters were flat and Laurie does shit in the movie, and there's a lack of characters to focus on. And Michael is just goofy in this on, killing people on accident and gets chased by a mob. And has too much political commentary that just dates the movie rather than being timeless like the 2018 movie. Just a disappointing sequel.
@dustinakadustin2 жыл бұрын
@@brandonspain12345 what political commentary are you on about?
@Steve-bi4ej2 жыл бұрын
@@brandonspain12345 Didn't think there was anything goofy about Michael in this one tbh. He's more brutal than ever. In the 2018 film, there were definitely moments with him that were too goofy (like the whole scene with the babysitter and the kid -trying to go from comedy straight into horror - that was an epic fail.) But that's not the case in this one. This movie definitely had flaws, yes. But one thing it got right was the darkness of Michael and the brutality/violence, as well as the overall tone and vibe. Which is why we go see Michael in the first place. Like Dustin said it's just a kill fest, that's the point. Heck it's even the name of this installment. That's what Halloween is meant to be, not riveting plots and characters. No Halloween movie will ever win prestigious awards for writing or acting. And it doesn't matter one bit because it's not that type of thing. It's only for entertainment in a horror sense. And the work Michael puts in is thoroughly entertaining in this one. Overall, I'd say I enjoyed this one and the 2018 one equally. Neither were perfect, both could have been better, but both also kicked ass in their own ways. One did better in areas that the other didn't, and vice versa. Overall I'm still happy because Michael delivered and that's what I buy the ticket for.

For people who have a problem with the firefighter battle scene with Michael: Didn't feel ridiculous at all, lol. What were you watching again, if I may ask? Because him fighting off all 11 firefighters can be done with ease, especially as an experienced veteran killer like Myers. Firefighters aren't even prepared for scary situations like this. That's where the cops come in. They don't even get to carry guns lol. They're trained and prepared to fight fires, not big scary men in white soulless masks walking right out of a burning building with barely any scratches on them. Which is why you saw the firefighters slowly back up and even shake a little bit in fear. They weren't able to properly even counter his moves and defend themselves with their tools because AGAIN, they aren't prepared for this. Michael is a hardcore killer and street fighter, of course he's gonna use some simple dodges and brute strength to forcefully manipulate their weapons against them. This wasn't even close to being over the top and was entirely realistic. Made perfect sense to me ya'll. This is completely doable.

I thought the kills felt more like action movie kills than Michael Meyers kills. The kills in the original were almost subtle and visceral in a way where you watched Michael stalk and kill someone that was utterly helpless. Michael had this style in his kills where he stalked his victims so much so that it became his ability in dead by daylight. Now the direction and score in this movie was absolutely phenomenal but it feels like it missed the tone of a Halloween movie. When I saw Michael kill someone it felt almost like watching some sort of super soldier kill someone instead of an apex predator hunting his prey. I know that’s a weird way to put it but the way Michael killed felt wrong. Tommy also felt weird and was so stupid it genuinely hurt to watch him. The whole mob aspect could have been interesting but I felt their were better ways to show that Michael was destroying Haddonfield. It was a pretty mid movie but I feel it served it’s purpose as a bridge between one and three.

It's because the writers don't actually understand horror or the franchise. They maybe fans of the franchise but they don't actually know how to write an installment of it. They aren't horror writers. They're comedy writers. And before anyone says "let's see you do better"... Yes, give me that chance and I would do it for free. And I would do my absolute best to write a respectful and faithful sequel to the original film and I will iron out my mistakes and plot holes, unlike the professional Hollywood writers who got paid millions to write "evil dies tonight" over and over again.

I feel like the climax didn't really go anywhere. We already knew Myers was a bit of an entity in his own right and that he was stronger and more powerful than the average human. I kinda think if they had of played the voice over of Laurie (about how he gets more powerful the more he kills) to an amazing kick ass fight scene, rather than the flashes of him coming back from being beaten up by the mob it would have been a lot more satisfying. I feel like they forced the mob concept too much, had to do something with it, realised the script was too long, and then did a 5 minute ending without giving Myers a real fight scene. Theres the scene where he kills the boy on the stairs and then everything else is him killing the mob in a montage, and then him killing Laurie's daughter with barely any real fighting

Sometimes we just need a movie with a great atmosphere, ambiance and, "Halloween decorations". That was my favorite part of the review. @@VegasAceVII but Chris is right...that’s all the first film was - pure visceral experience: terrific atmosphere, amazing/chilling score, tons of suspense and tension, and of course, Micheal Myers stalking and killing people. That’s what made the film a classic from Carpenter. He didn’t put too much thought into the premise or screenplay but focused on the direction and shot an artfully scary horror film. I don’t see why there’s anything wrong with that. I mean, it’s a horror iconic masterpiece for a reason.
@TimeBomb014X2 жыл бұрын
@@greggately5782 Yes a reason you clearly don't know, Michael in total killed possible 5 people in that movie with the "goriest" probably being him slashing his sister to death. Halloween had a simple premise yes of a crazy person killing teens but it's more than just creepy mood and good music, it was the fear of something like Halloween happening to any safe suburban neighborhood, it's the fear that some lunatic with a knife can break into your own home and kill you. It's Donald Pleasance giving a chilling insight into what Michael Myers is and to then witness first hand what he is. It's getting to know the characters so you do feel that tension as you see an ominous shadow in the distance and fearing for that character. That's what made the original iconic, not that Michael killed people, not that a particular scene was scary because it's creepy, or the music. It's the context behind it all, and that is what HK lacks big time, they throw in so many characters that you learn nothing about and don't care when they die, the endless series of incredibly stupid brain dead decisions that get people killed, side plots that just have no actual weight or meaning, and just the overall lack of any focus and more than anything the obvious stink of a movie that exists just for the sake of turning a good movie into a franchise. Halloween Kills did nothing to justify it existing or why the Blumhouse Halloween movies needed to be a trilogy

This was a TERRIBLE film. I like gore and death on screen too, and that mask is a joy to see on big screen and I love the Halloween saga in general. But holy crap I never felt ripped off like this since Matrix 3 or the PoC sequels. Yes the gore was fine (though that opening fire fighter sequence lasted shorter than individual kills for some reason, it could have been a bloodbath but it was simply brushed over) but every thing else sucked big time in this film. The acting, the cringy line delivery, Laurie's lack of agency, that hospital mob sequence that lasted nearly half an hour (I hate it when the concern of conveying a social / political message gets in the way of the momentum and the plot) and that ending with a narration that did not work for me at all. I was so disappointed and my expectation from horror / thriller films are super low. 2018 was a decent film. Go rewatch that. Or watch the originals. If you want gore go rewatch Saw 6 or something. I think what the movie was trying to do was trying to make Haddenfield in general the main character by focusing on how Michael Myers has had an effect on the town as a whole. Unfortunately it does fail in this because the town of Haddenfield was never really a character, it was just a setting for the events of Halloween to take place. The way the story bounces around from person to person trying to give so many people a spotlight doesn't help as it just makes the movie feel unfocused. They should have kept the movie focused on Tommy Doyle and Allyson taking up the fight with while Lorrie was out of comission, had them be at each event and growing more and more desperate to end Myers as he kills their companions and manages to slip away again and again until Karen got his mask off of him and lead him to the ambush.
@JohnSmith-wt5zw2 жыл бұрын
SAME THING I SAID BACK WHEN THE 2018 ONE CAME OUT. it was just a theory then, but it was solidified with this one. I didn't like how unfocused it felt with no real main character. For that reason, the town of Haddonfield is the main character but it just comes off messy.

I was equally thrilled and frustrated with this film. Yes, I LOVED the 70’s intro, the gore, the score, the kills were excellent, the cinematography was great and many old characters returning was a great idea. I especially loved the development of Laurie’s daughter especially compared to the 2018 film. I was very frustrated with certain scenes and certain characters especially when they acted REALLY STUPID.
