Im pretty sure the astro pelican is used in cutscenes like the beginning of assault on the control room so the pelican doesnt hit anything while flying up to scare the grunt

Glad we got these because the method they used to make most of the cutscenes were having devs actually driving the vehicles themselves in cutscenes instead of going through the work of scripting them. Too bad newer games do not use this method so you wont see non playable vehicles that are player friendly unless a dev made it to play around with.

The spirit needs to have the turret removed (or ai_allegiance player covenant) to be enterable, it won't let you enter it with the turret since it's an enemy "riding" the vehicle. I had an s3dpak with all these anniversary models on b30 you could've used btw

The no_clip banshee does actually no_clip at the end of Truth and Reconciliation! If you just get it asap and turn immediately and low you'll go under the pavement

The astral pelican was probably used for the end of Silent Cartographer where Foehammer goes down the hatch, because the pelican is bigger than the hole it flies into.

I feel like the "falling box" was supposed to be a movable object just like the future games, since scenery obj couldn't move yet, it was probably set as vehicle so it could be pushed. Considering how the splatter works on halo ce, I'm glad it didn't appeared in the final game

For the Spirit dropship try going in the middle of it (where the blue plasma is) and go to where the turret is supposed to be attached and press whatever button you use to get into vehicles with to pilot it. Sometimes that works whenever i used to make it drivable back in the Custom Edition days!

Surprised you didn’t mention the unique text strings for some of these. Potentially showing cut content since there’s a “Hold E to enter Wraith” specific message but some others display a generic missing entry notification.

I doubt you'll see this comment lol but you can fly the spirit drop ship, if you make the driver seat a banshee or better yet to not crash the game a ghost. That way the invisible pilot doesn't get kicked and crash the game, I did it back in the day. Remember doin it many times on assault on the control room and that was it, But the driver's seat is in the middle front, kind of where the ghost and wraith sit When they're flying in

Put the halo ring on a custom map, have it kill all players when fired, if your team are all dead, you wouldn't lose any points. It would be great for infection games.

"b30" is the internal filename for the mission Silent Cartographer (though as a modder, you probably already know that). Recall that in the last cutscene of The Silent Cartographer, a pelican descends through an opening at the top of the island into the halo ring. In that cutscene, _you see covenant crates falling_ from the same opening because they (presumably) were placed on top of the 'lid' and fell in after it opened. I don't know how this effect is achieved in the final game, but you probably also already know that Halo 1's "scenery tags" are fixed in place. They can't move. So if you want movable scenery (outside of using something like a "device object") it's best to make it an un-drivable vehicle. So if the falling crates in the Silent Cartographer cutscene don't use this method, it's at least likely that Bungie experimented with this method early on. It's also very likely why the halo ring is a vehicle: it can be seen rotating (moving!) outside the window on Pillar of Autumn.

I'm pretty sure that the B30 falling boxes are used in the ending cutscene of The Silent Cartographer, when that sliding disc opens. The boxes were made vehicles so that they would fall into the chasm while that disc was moving out of the way. At least, I think that's what happened. I don't know if it's in retail or if it was scrapped during one of the beta phases.

Almost all of these are available to drive in custom edition maps, and all of these vehicles we see in cutscenes actually had to be driven by the devs in the cutscenes, so you may not have been able to make it drive able but they can be (source from the devs themselves from a video of them watching a halo 1 speed run by garishgoblin, they commented on how difficult it was to film the cutscrenes)

I think you could fly the long sword. It was just saying drive pelican when you were near the back of it, but there was no pelican around.

That re entry pod is freakin sweet

One of the cool things about the Halo: CE development is Bungie couldn't get the pilot AI to work the way they wanted them to so that's why are there are specific models for the cutscenes as well as the landing/takeoff sequences of Spirits and Pelicans during gameplay being one of the few pieces of gameplay hard-baked into the game. The devs had to manually record the flight patters until they got one that looked right. That's why on the level Halo there can be a Spirit seen flying upwards hitting and then skipping over the top edge of a cliff. The flight path was locked in but the geometry of the cliff was changed either in the Gamebox PC port or the MCC (which was based off of the PC port) so it looks like the Spirit is just kinda flying into a wall. I think it's really interesting how they used the tools available to get to the end result, it took a lot of tricks to make the game we all know and love to actually work.

The First Banshee was a more early version of it. When it was shown off (in this level as well funny enough) in early test footage and it had the pelican sounds and moved very quickly, guess they recycled it for the Key's mission by accident. If I recall, there's even banshee's still in the level file of Silent Cartographer, but are disabled upon level load. They're placed on the top area of the island. Or am I confusing it with ghosts? I've haven't touched the tools in a while so I can't remember. I'm assuming the covenant crate IS used somewhere, since the only way to have physics objects in Halo 1 is to tag them as a vehicle type. I'm guessing that's what they did to work around that situation. The "Cinematic" Scorpion with it's health bar is most likely made in an early version such as the 1749 halo 1 build. Since in that build, the tank DID have health, but no damage model. Though I'm sure it's used in PoA in the introduction cutscene and didn't bother removing the code for the hud element? There was a tank in PoA's intro right?

For the spirit you have to be awkwardly positioned under the turret to enter. I struggled to make it flyable before but its doable

Wasn't there a grunt in a covenant crate in the lore at least? That might be the reason why there is a covenant crate that is a vehicle because there might actually be a grunt in there.

The rifle being lowered would be a result of a gheto work around for doing the cryo pod, it seems they figured no one will have a weapon at that point so why not just have the character within so why go to the effort of scripting a new first person POV, when you can just have the current first person chief in there with no weapon to sell the illusion.

At the end of silent cartographer when you go into the man hole, there are boxes that fall down with you. This box is made a vehicle because it would be able to flip and act like any vehicle would, hence why the box that normally does not move in gameplay flips in that cutscene. It is only used in that one cutscene, Every other space create you see is stitched into the geometry.

Wraith has the rocket launcher on it cause it was drivable in an old build of the game. Longsword and Spirit can be drivable with more modding.

Mmh. I wonder, are the noclip vehicles in the game meant to be vehicles driven into walls or floors and then meant to have a explosion effect be added on? Or even as a crashed vehicle so they don't have to worry about the game's physics getting involved? Being that if they wanted part of the vehicle to be put underground and a solid object would start freaking out.

At 4:11 you mentioned that when you exit some of the vehicles the game crashes. I'm having that happen to me too in a different Halo: CE mod I'm working on. When I exit the vehicles in MCC the game crashes and I'm not sure why -- the game doesn't crash when I test the same map in Custom Edition. Is there a certain flag checked in the vehicle tag that causes this?

I like to think that the falling box was a prototype for a drop pod.

Probably can't drive some of them because in development they had to record movements for the drop ships manually, they couldn't make an ai fly the ship, I assume the same is for the longsword, it would be on a set path that one of the Devs had to fly and record themselves
