A NEW ERA OF HALO MODDING HAS ARRIVED, AND MY FRIENDS, IT IS GLORIOUS! With the recent release of official modding tools for MCC, modders have been going all out creating some incredible, truly unique experiences for Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo Reach, and lemme tell ya - these mods are absolutely BLOWING MY MIND. So, today, I thought we'd highlight some of the best mods I've seen so far! Thanks to Bean, Adorabirb and Vengeful Vadam for giving me some pointers :)

@hiddenXperia You need to check out the modded campaigns for Halo 3 and Reach which came out before the modding tools did. It restructures the damage tables and gives an OOOMPH to weapons like the assault rifle and the brute spike rifle. The spike rifle packs an extra kinetic punch which can push you or your targets back a bit while you’re being shot by it, making it not only viable against brutes but against chieftains too (the logic there is flawless- brute weapons should do way more damage and should be extremely viable against brutes- I mean, why would brutes make a bunch of tame pea shooters on par with normal covenant weapons when the brutes had to technologically evolve to wage war against their own kind? Brute weapons should be very powerful, and I agree)

if i'm being honest wouldn't want that because it would take away the unique identity every halo game has. every halo game being halo 3 is just a bungiestans wet dream whereas true halo fans recognize every halo game as having it's own identity,

@@justinnyugen7015 but that constant "Everything should be halo 3" idea/mentality is such a close minded fanboy approach that only the fake fans have. no we don't need every halo campaign recreated in halo 3's engine because that would take away instead of add to those campaigns. halo 3 had the most diluted art style and sandbox out of all 5 halo games. a halo 3 anniversary with the cutscenes recreated with Blur like H2A on the other hand would be something i would be all for.

I really hope that, with Microsoft having bought Bethesda, they might be able to work with them to bring MCC mods to Xbox. It's probably an absolute pipe dream, but that's not gonna stop me from wanting it lol

if bethesda of all people where able to make it possible for their glitchy broken games to get Mods on Console then there really is no excuse for 343 not having console mod support. say what you want about the quality of 343's stuff but halo 4 and 5 were practically bug and glitch free.

It would make sense to add mods to the console version of MCC. A great test bed for 343 to see what getting played and maybe try copying some of that into Infinite down the line. Oh so many things i'd want modded into 3, Reach, and 4 I can hardly begin to count it all!

They dont need bethesda and we really dont want bethesda style modding when the halo engine has the capability to load custom maps on their own without overwriting any files. What 343 really needs to do is figure out how the community can get their custom mods to show up in the unreal engine menu and we are golden from there. There is no other work past that thats needed for console other than maybe adding a mods section to the fileshare

@@admiralalex1000 Not to mention giving MCC console mods gives MCC the same staying factor as Bethesda's games Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE are still alive and kicking today because of mod support it offers unlimited replayability it could ensure that MCC lasts just as long as 343 want halo infinite to last for the next ten years. what they could do in introduce something similar to the creation club just not monitized. (great idea poor execution because bethesda)

@@KalebSDay H2 hunters have higher health values or reduced back damage I believe, so while the pistol remained the same, the enemies changed.

Honestly, a mod I'd love to see is one that switches out Sergeant Johnson's standard marine armor for the newly-introduced Orion armor, or friendly Spartan IIIs with Active camp and MA5K carbines.

@@HiddenXperia I just saw it and yeah, that would be awesome to see in the original trilogy of games. But honestly I just think that having official mod tools and support is honestly the best thing that could happen for the halo fan base since it allows more options for creative expression. It's really neat to see what will come when modders get more experience with the tools. It's a great backbone for the community that I don't think takes away from Infinite.

did hunters die to one bullet because the magnum was too strong, or because the hunters were to weak? i'm leaning towards the latter.

@@krimson8317Halo CE considers the skin (the orange parts) of a hunter as a head so if you shoot the skin of the hunter (the back and neck) with a headshot capable weapon such as the magnum it will insta kill them like how if you shoot a grunt in the head with the magnum it will insta kill them. This is also why the sniper can insta kill hunters but not other guns like the AR, shotgun or needler.

One disclaimer is that the halo 2 e3 br is semi only but another modder AltSierra117 made a halo 2 beta br which is semi when scoped and burst when unscoped. Definitely would love to see an E3 inspired Old/New Mombasa with Covie troop buses, Arbiter vs Marine gameplay on Quarantine Zone like some modders have done, Flood Juggernaut, and hybrid Brutes (lowered health, more reasonable melee damage, red H3 helmets and pauldrons for Captain ranks)

The Albatross sorta reminds me of the supply ships that come down to the UNSC firebases in Halo Wars. Wait a minute... How viable would it be to attempt to make Halo 3 into Halo Wars? RTS and all? Having your units be actual Halo 3 AI squads battling it out. It would be like the AI battles we already have, except players could control, direct, and construct them. This idea is gonna drive me nuts. If only I had any modding ability whatsoever

It's definitely possible. I've made some mods/tests with rts stuff in mind and plan on exploring it more. Main problem I'd say is the hud/ui , not much space there for custom functionality. I ended up using chapter titles to fake a UI.

@@link816 If need be someone could write a program to hook into the game and insert custom UI, plenty of games have stuff like this already. It might make things more difficult (since you would need to install another mod) but it should be doable.

Depending on how many things are going on at once, either it would be for top tier PCs only, or the graphics would need to be toned down, or I am completely clueless. I would still love to see it happen since I loved Halo Wars and Halo 1-Reach. Alternatively, mod tools for Halo Wars would be nice too.

We did it with halo script back in halo custom edition. However the netcode couldn't handle syncing ai so that wouldn't work for multiplayer. The games still dont support this but they have the ability to add it but i'm not sure they want to prioritize this considering the current mcc team is tiny and currently focusing on completing the mod tools and their respective frameworks.

Hopefully MCC gets a mods section for consoles like Bethesda has done, that would be a dream come true. They probably won't since it'll kill Halo Infinites success once the first month hype dies down and we don't have any reason to progress since theres no xp levels

Combat Evolved’s campaign being modded into Halo 3 will be incredible. Because the Mark 5 looked badass in the engines lighting, and levels like 343 guilty spark would have a completely new level of terror with such lighting. It’s good to know you’ll be covering it when/if it comes out HiddenXperia.

The idea of a Forest covered in flood fog sounds so cool to me. Like having combat and infection forms come down from trees and hills covered in flood biomass and just pick off Unsc marines is completely a classic. Like the end of 343 Guilty Spark

I want Covenant using armor abilities in Halo 1-3, and more variety in Reach, or equipment in Halo 1, 2, Reach. Maybe keep most of them for special forces and high ranking enemies though.

I think if they bring Halo 5 to PC and release mod tools the Halo 5 campaign issues could be fixed (I've never played Halo 5 since they haven't ported it, so this is just what I've heard).

18:18 I had worked on the Chief model by improving the model and textures. I've got a version I've polished a bit more with new normal maps, and it'll be released this month as part of the CE+ tagset for anyone to incorporate into their own mods.

This is just the beginning. I'm planning on porting TF2 maps over to Halo 3, and once I get to know the whole process, I will begin on porting a lot of maps to Halo 3, maybe even other games.

imagine a system similar to steam workshop, where mods would automatically install when you join a custom game like in the source engine. i feel like that’d significantly broaden the amount of people interested in the modding community

Actually even cooler fact about how halos engine works! You compile your finished mod into a singular .map file that the game engine just loads. Other players just have to have the map downloaded and no content is overwritten at all. (Currently you still have to overwrite files because 343 hasn't built the menu framework to support custom content yet)

Halo 3 mods that need to be made at somepoint - A version of halo 5 warzone but without the reqs. It would basically be firefight meets btb. Each team would have friendly AI marines and the covenant AI are hostile to both sides. It would just make halo 3 btb even more chaotic. - A Doom mod for any halo game were chief is Doom Slayer and complete with enhanced movement, so it feels like Doom. - Modded 21st century vehicles such as a Lamborghini (imagine doing the warthog run with this) - Halo 3 but it's an anime - A mod that replaces chief and all the marines (besides Johnson) with Anime girls.( I remember seeing someone do a mod a like this for MW2 and they replaced everyone with Girl's Frontline characters.) Great showcase! thanks for showing off all the great stuff mod creators have work on so far. These mod tools have made our jobs soooo much easier. no more messing around with assembly for H3, and the new Sapien and guerrilla for halo 2 and 3 is fantastic

Its most of the fact that once you learn the basics of using the tools ai battles become actually really easy to make and are kinda considered low effort and ignored unless a bunch of custom work is tossed into the mix.

OMG It is a good thing I found your content! You got me with SOOOO MUCH nostalgia and even hope with modders making a Halo CE Remaster on the Halo 3 Engine. Cannot wait to try the Halo 2 E3 Battle Rifle! I fell in love with that gun when I first saw it and was sad when they changed it when I first played the game. Rather amusing that the community is doing a better job at making remasters/content better then the devs LOL Thanks again!

I had a cool idea for a doom eternal mod. Replace doomslayer with chief, Vega with cortana, and Samuel Hayden with mendicant bias. The three hell priests could be replaced by the 3 prophets, and the demons re-texured to be flood combat forms, since earth in eternal is covered in blood and guts pretty much everywhere, retexure all that with bio-mass. Heck, maybe even get the voice actors for the characters to make the mood even better. I probably explained this very, very poorly but hopefully you get a general idea of what I'm trying to say. Basically a mod that turns Doom Eternal into Halo, but keeping all the games original functions and mechanics.

I'm going to pitch a level I've been dying to see for years - INTRO KEYSHIP LEVEL. Such a bummer that it released as a comic. Here's how it'd go: - Immediately after Halo 2, you catch up with Master Chief onboard the Dreadnaught. Imagine previous space starts but as boarding party. You go forth alone, in need of a weapon and grenades to supplement your H3 pistol. -Hood gives you orders to assassinate Truth. Of course, you oblige. - Begin your tense infiltration of the keyship interior. Random doors open for you. Lights flicker on and off, guiding. Source unknown. - Truth's voice echoes over the intercom periodically, acting as a recap of previous events - See grunts being bullied, Brutes upgrading their armor, Pack dynamic etc. See Grav hammers in ceremonial position, but without anyone wielding them. - Engage the enemy. Continue to follow the trail, as you did on High Charity. - Run a across an underpowered Terminal, faintly lighting up. When you access it, your HUD glitches out for a bit, playing the familiar H3 hallucination sound. Terminal fails to activate and fizzles out. - At some point, ODSTs radio in and board the ship, bringing with them human weapons. Reverse Pillar of Autumn! Finally get Assault Rifle. - Catch glimpses of strange Forerunner construct with 3 light bulb eyes, inaccessible behind glass. Start hearing faint murmurs. - Split up with ODSTs at some point. Hear them get slaughtered by Grav Hammers over the radio coms. - Fight leads up to Truth's ante chamber. See subdued 3 bulbed construct in center of room, with the Prophet of Truth, a slew of engineers, and Brute bodyguards. As you fight the minions, the bulbs continuously spotlight you like the monitor does on Cold Storage. - After first wave, stronger hallucination occurs, starting to take a vaguely feminine form. With several Chieftains (maybe one for every Chieftain you face the rest of the game) activating invincibility, Truth flies away on his chair. Your bullets have no effect. You're seeing things. It's a losing battle. In typical Demon fashion, you decide to blow up the entire ship. -Escape ship as seen in comic. -Engineers quickly repair the damages and subdue the construct. Begin Arrival

I used a set of mods for X-COM 2: War of the Chosen that lets you make authentic SPARTAN-IIs, ODST's (inc Alpha-Nine) and Halo 2 and 3 Marines out of my X-COM soldiers. I also have Reach guns as well, and that was my first real experience with modding a game. (you can also add the flood in too) Now seeing Halo do large scale mods with steam workshop support coming in future, this is fantastic and I can't wait to experiment with some of this.

Growing up playing Halo: CE (Custom Edition) this reminds me 100% of that. Completely custom made weapons, sounds, vehicles, maps, there was some truly insane mods for that game and you could play the mods multiplayer. It was amazing and it gave me fond memories I will never forget. On a map named Hugeass V2 there a stealth bomber you could fly and drop literal nukes onto the map lol They also had Tachikoma on the same map, these insane spider tanks from Ghost in the Shell that could drive up walls and jump around.

I had a copy and played the flood/guardian modded map on console multiplayer back in the day.. it was epic Accidentally joining a modded lobby was like hitting the lottery back then. You could also save the previous custom game you played which is how I got all the mods on my console without actually modding them myself.

I have had my Omen 15 for about six months now. Not as specced out as this one but is still an absolute blast! Never overheats Beautifil frame and just an all-round good laptop. Highly recommend to everyone for using as work or gaming.

The Bulldog vehicle actually appears to be the same exact asset from the Custom Edition map 'Chronopolis C3', as made by 'Jahrain', albeit with Halo 3's shaders and some new particle effects So your comment about the vehicle having a "Japanese, military, sci-fi" look is actually pretty on point as the Chronopolis map is actually based in New Hiroshima, Japan, as mentioned in the map's description

I believe the wastes map is taken from Sacred Icon on H2? Its right in the beginning where Arby is dropped off at that same quarantine wall. Was meant for visually rather than an area to explore but here we are.

I been trying to find videos of the Halo 1-2 Anniversary graphics mod that I heard about about two years ago. It mostly replaced the new textures with improved versions of the old ones and from what I hear it looks amazing.
