Chief punching open an armor box after being told "It's locked" is definitely something Chief would do, automatically better than Paramount's Chief

Notice how these scenes hit on every, single, part of his fighting style and his presence? - Stealthy when he needs to be. - Incredibly weighty footsteps making you realise this is basically a tank condensed to a human size. - To the point "We don't have much time. Let's go." - The sheer awe from the cadets which echoes how marines react to Chief in game. - Casually displays super strength. - The protector. - Ultra precise even while moving fast. - Acrobatic. - Ruthless.

Fun Fact: Daniel Cudmore played the games after he was confirmed for the role of Master Chief so he could better understand the character and portray Chief how most Halo fans saw him.

A Great Scene missing is when Cheif Radios Kelley and tells her they need more time and asks her to stay longe. She tells him to save himself He then says in a sharp change in his voice different voice "I won't leave them!" He tells the Cadets to run to the Pelican and is ready to sacrifice himself to save them. We actually get to see Cheif's Humanity without him taking his Helmet off. Just like he stepped in to take the Needler Round for Sully, he never hesitates to save those around him. He's emotionless in his voice until something happens to those around him. The slightest change in his voice says more than a face reveal ever could. We don't get this in the Series.

This showcases that writers who understand Halo are more important than having a high budget. FUD wasn't perfect, but it sure felt like Halo.

This shows chief can care about human lives in the mission without getting to deep into his human emotions...and he kept his helmet on

"Alternate timeline" doesn't justify what they did with the tv show. It's more like cosmic retcon for the sake of changing things. Master Chief's growing reflecting on mortality was earned and we felt it. But the tv show's methods? It just puts it there... and demands we take it seriously. Forward Unto Dawn is truly underated.

The ending with the spartans removing their helmets except for chief and the question how old they are, is better than the entire Tv Series so far. Thats was such a Halo moment, it could have been out of the Books. This also made me question why Blue Team isnt in the Series. They are already very well written II's

The movie actually had a lot of spirit to it and it seems like the creators actually cared about what they were doing here. 343 was making their first showing of Halo and you could tell they wanted to make a strong first impression.

I specifically remember watching this and being like they could do much better. Now I'm thinking about how a bigger studio did so much worse.

Not to mention they made the covenant absolutely terrifying. I love the scene where the cadets asks whose left. Only to be told they are the only ones left on the planet.

Forward Unto Dawn was such an incredibly underrated movie. People used to leave a lot of bad reviews but compared to what we got in the Halo Tv Series, Forward Unto Dawn is top tier as fuck.

Hot take: I liked the characterization of Master Chief here BECAUSE he does not show up to kick ass until the last third of the movie, after all hell breaks loose, so his appearance is as justified as it is utilitarian. It's like an inverse of those monster movies that don't clearly show the monster until the end: small doses leave you wanting more.

0:22 ->0:39 The lights on his armor and AR are beautifully decorated, for me it really makes his armor and assault rifle come to life.

I honestly loved the last act of this movie. It built tension so well, and really gave you the feeling that Spartans are on a whole different level than normal people.

Honestly, Forward Unto Dawn copped a bit of flack when it released for being a bit boring and clearly low budget but I always kinda liked it for what it was. Comparing this to Paramount's Halo series (with its much higher budget), I really think FUD did better in capturing the games onto the silver screen. The Chief looks, sounds and acts like he should (I also really love the Halo Legends Chief design). All the props, armors, uniforms, weapons etc, all look and sound like they fit within the Halo universe. It was honestly pretty well made considering the budget. I just don't like this particular Elite design from FUD, but I still think they looked pretty good and it captured how brutal/menacing the Elites are. I wish it got a higher budget in the end.

The part where they said its locked, chief proceeds to just punch the fkin locker in half. Dude this was how you make Chief in Live action. Imagine the same team with a bigger budget.

You know something that dawned on me, that shot around 0:35, the needler round hit Chief's armor and shattered while deflecting off the pauldron. And around 0:39-0:41 there is another round that ricochets and shatters on shoulder again. There was no energy shimmering of shields, meaning this armor was Mk-4 or another earlier variant. This was before the UNSC reversed engineered Covenant shield technology to adapt it to later iterations Mjolnir or the very least was in the midst of fine tuning before implementation. And in the movie, itself most didn't know who and/or what the Covenant was. This would be in line with the lack of shields on Chief's armor at this time as well.

I remember when he showed up, I paused the movie and had such a fun freakout because I honestly wasn't expecting him to be in the movie at all! There he was, armored up and ready to kick ass!

I've always thought Forward Unto Dawn was a bit underrated. Yeah, it wasn't the most perfect movie and it wasn't high-budget, but it did the Chief and the world and character-building (especially Lasky) just right in my opinion. Even the cheesiest parts had their purpose when compared to Paramount's Halo.

I love how it shows the sheer speed of the Spartans. That needler rifle round has to be traveling stupid fast, and chief made it to him to cover him from the lethal shot? That’s incredible.

They actually used the in game weapon sound effects for this show and that alone makes it more memorable than Paramounts “Halo”, which seems to deliberately change everything it possibly can for no reason, all the way down to the sound design. With as much as Paramounts show has avoided Halo’s iconic sound design they at least kept the original shield recharge sound. Thank fuck for that at least.

This one scene is better than anything the show gave us.

My only issue with this film is the excessive slow-mo. Aside from that, I genuinely love this film. The story is simple, but well written. It has good action, proper acting, decent visuals, great sound design, and it has heart. I enjoy it just as ever, no matter how many times I rewatch it.

Master Chief in this movie way more badass and cooler than in the tv series.. and also in this movie although fred and kelly removed their helmet, chief did not. And that's how it should been on the tv series.

I love the ending when Kelly and Fred take off their helmets, that they have the realization that Chief is just a kid, no older than they are

The fact that they made it really dark intentionally is what made this half look and feel so amazing. Any imperfections, mistakes and budget limitations with the character designs, costume designs, and more were essentially concealed by the darkness. I would honestly say that if they had made those scenes any lighter and the designs wouldn’t have looked so good. Such a great film. 10/10 would watch it a hundred times over and a hundred times again before ever considering the TV Series.

Sound Effects, Daniel Cudmore's voice got pretty close to Steve Downes, The mind of the producers with much less budget to work with and an story within the canon. THEY PLAYED THE GAMES!!! Gonna rewatch, it desearves another run.

Paramount+ deserves to loose money on that garbage they made. I'm surprised to see people claim to be Halo fans and then turn around and defend that abomination.

I remember being bored while watching Forward unto Dawn as a kid, but looking back I'll take that over the new Halo TV show. I just wished more episodes of Forward unto Dawn were like the last episode.

I remember watching this quite a bit. Yeah it was slow and kinda boring but when the covenant came in it was depicted really good. The unknown enemy and trying to survive with what the cadets learned. As they were cornered and then saved. Seeing chief actually gave me chills. It was just really cool to see him in a live action film and he looked pretty awesome. Although he visor was a but small. The last part of it was pretty good. Cheif didn't say much, looked massive, bulky, reacted quick and most importantly he acted like chief. For example he didn't take off his helmet in the end and kept focus outside in case the enemy was following. Showing that he is still in the fight even when the fight is far from him. This movie was okay but it still did respect chief's character. Most of it anyway.

this is how you introduce the covenant into a live action from military leaks to actual invasion a planet and cool introduction of a spartan as a whole, those shots where they are gazing at chief was just awesome like they already know that spartans are super human but meeting one in combat is just so uplifting

Forward Unto Dawn was incredibly underrated, seeing it get a lot of love nowadays is pretty awesome. Tom Green's performance as Lasky was also amazing and made his stand against Del Rio for Chief in Halo 4 and his conversation with Chief at the end of the game a lot more meaningful. Edit: Almost to 117 likes, once we get there, we should totally leave it.

Forward unto dawn is honestly a great film, yeah sure its low budget but the film does a good job of working around that and the final product is awesome. Plus they actually did this thing where they learned the lore so the film wouldn't destroy beloved characters only enhance them and the universe they live in.

I didn’t know FUD existed until my dad showed up with a dvd copy years ago as a kid. Saw it when I was in middle school and rewatched it last year (now as an adult) and wow….it’s still the best Halo live action we got so far and the cool part about it is that it’s canon to the games. The Halo 3 live action commercial by Neil Blompkamp is also canon to the games alongside the Halo Reach live action trailers (one showing the origin of Carter and one showing how Kat lost her arm and Jorge helped her deliver the bomb to the covenant ship).

It would have been awesome if you could execute hunters like that in the game..but like...first u needed to remove the armor on that part before you could jump on it's back to plant a grenade and kill it

I loved this film ever since it was released. I believe it was episodic before, so I was really anticipating all of it until Halo 4 launched. It might have been slow paced but god, when Chief showed up, he elevated the whole film to a new level for me. Even without having to show his face, his appearance and his manner of speaking just goes on to say that this towering guy has full command of everything. Heck, his scene with Lasky when he said "Well done, soldier" was a lot more impactful and emotional to me than whatever Paramount did with a big budget.

Goes to show how much passion matters when making something like this

Despite its flaws, I LOVE FUD especially in its portrayal of Master Chief, which is EXACTLY HOW he is supposed be portrayed: Badass, efficient, professional, on point, cool headed and calculating, letting his actions speak for him and making sure people make it out alive, unlike Paramount Chief

FUD as a whole is criminally underrated but especially their Chief and the actor’s performance. The armor was amazing, the way he carried himself and acted was perfect, and honestly I lowkey like the voice too, even though it isn’t Steve, it’s as good as it could’ve been with it not being him

FoD had the issue of being far too specific, focusing on a small backstory of one character. As a result it wasn't suited for a wide audience and it was a bit stale in the first part. But once it got rolling, it's actually really damn good for what it is. And it's significantly batter than the nonsense that paramount is putting out

Even though it isn't Steve Downes' voice it fits the Chief well. I have no problem calling the FUD iteration as Master Chief.

I’ve always loved Chief’s voice in this. The actor nailed the exact voice I always heard when reading Chief’s dialogue in the books set between 2525 and maybe 2540. In general he was just portrayed perfectly here. My only two issues with this movie were the pacing and the Covenant appearance. The pacing was mostly because I was like 9 when this came out and I was there to watch Spartans fuck up aliens, after the first watch I always skipped straight to the invasion scene. My issue with the Covenant however is an obvious one. They’re Storm Covenant. Most of these armor and weapon designs either didn’t exist this far back, or weren’t being deployed by the Covenant. Their designs should be from Halo Wars, Reach, and CE. I don’t really have other complaints. It was cool to see Chief and Lasky’s connection in media that wasn’t a book, which is very atypical of 343. Overall this is was a solid live action Halo project and somehow miles ahead of a full TV show with a bigger budget, better props, more experienced actors, more time put into making it, and a further decade of material to take inspiration from.

I got chills, love this show, the best live action Halo ever. And now probably forever xD A lot of ppl says he have no emotion and that why he talks so much in the TV series. But when he give the hunter armor part to lasky, it also says a lot about him. He cares about humans, he is not cold, he is focused

One thing that stands out to me about this series, too, is the sense of presence that Chief has in the scene. When he runs, or drops off the wall and onto the ground/Warthog below, even when he climbs on/off the Hunter, he feels like he has a real sense of weight to his body and his armor; contrast with the Paramount + series where Spartans just move across the screen like obvious digital puppets with no sense of momentum or conservation of energy, with no natural body movements, looking completely weightless.

Wich model of the Mjolnir armor is this exactly? I've been seen this armor since Halo legends (with the white arm band) this is supposed to happen when Chief was begging as a Spartan right? He wear the same armor on "The Package" in Legends, so idk if this happen from that time

I was totally enamored with this when I first saw it years ago. It was so cool seeing John 117 brought to life like this. I so wish this version unfolded to a tv series. It could’ve been expanded on so much more this way.

A time when they actually cared what their player base wanted, and it was a real story to bridge the gap of Lasky and his story to the Game

There was an interview with the actor that played chief in this and his whole thing was that he wanted to put his own small spin on chief but still pay as much respect to the character as he could. As much as some didn’t like this series, the actor definitely deserves some respect for his depiction

Honestly, the only problem i had with this movie, was the use of H4 covenant members and equipment, and UNSC Equipment, but considering it was made to give more depth to Lasky and his OG story, i cant complain much, it was still good, and really liked it when it came out, bought the DVD even, still have it!. By comparision, the TV series, while the FUD movie was a 90/10 in terms of halo for me, the 10% was only because of the use of things that werent chronologically accurate, but hey, frakking details, the series is a 50/50 for me, it has its "Halo" moments, when you can see, the Lore Accurate Halo shining through, and i lLOVE those moments, but the rest of it?...... yeah, literally stock Sci-Fi series i have to endure until the end of the episode.

This what we all wanted for a Halo TV Series!!! Chief being stoic, badass, cool, calm, collected and calculated while fighting and dealing his enemies and the situation at hand! And also, NEVER TAKING OFF HIS HELMET!!! Like what were the writers/producers at Paramount thinking when producing that garbage of a show!!! Did they ever read the god damn books or even played the games!? They could've at least taken some notes from this to see how it should be done/look like!!!

I think ill be dead by the time we ever get to see a proper adaptation of halo's story. Never cared much about it when i was kid, but as i got older and replayed the games, read the terminals and the books, the story started to grow on me.

It’s sad to realize how everything previously made about halo (and low budget) is actually better than the series…it’s sad. Listen to the music for example, it inspire hope and resilience. Perfect. Notice the kid’s/soldier’s faces looks like they’had seen a god. Perfect.

What i love about this movie is that it shows just how dangerous the Covenant is and OP Spartans are. I also like that it shows Master Chief lore correct. Not the best at anything, just a brave mf who wins just because he can. And apparantly an unpopular opinion, but the show also shows that despite how good Master Chief is you can easily tell that Noble 6 would beat him as Noble 6 made whole legions and armadas disappear. A lot of people don’t aknowledge just how insane Noble 6 is when you take a look at Master Chief in Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.

While the movie came before the game, I have to admit they still did the elites just as they were shown in the videogames, unlike the tv series. The show did make them a bit more agile and not as bulky and slow as halo 4 but jeez the armor is horrendous, and they just seem like mini brutes that cant think for themselves

Always found it a bit weird that the Covenant in Forward unto Dawn (as well as the flashback scenes in Halo 4) were made to look like the Storm Covenant. Makes me think 343 were pretty much planning a full-on retcon, like “oh this is how they always looked actually,” before fan backlash against the new designs made them walk it back.

Its been a while since i've watched this movie but god i forgot how awesome some of these scenes were. This film wasn't perfect but it nailed the action. What's also neat is that they made the covenant a genuinely spooky threat.

I always loved this movie btw. Although personally I don’t love chiefs armor, he was awesome. Also something I love is that chief’s armor in this actually looks higher quality than the show. It looks actually metallic.

I miss the To Galaxy and 117 theme from Halo 4. They were the best Human themes to symbolize the heroics, bravery and resilience of the human race in the covenant war. Overcoming all the odds stacked against us.
