The strength of Master Chief as a character is that he starts out as this stoic dude that just gets stuff done and as his relationship with Cortana develops, he gets softer but retains his edge because he's not just doing what he's told, but because he has something and someone to fight for. They don't get that.
@klebyell5 ай бұрын
They get it, they're just doing something different. The actor said in this statement that the more minuscule nature of early master chief was done so the player could insert themselves into his shoes. Even in Halo 3 it's still pretty minimal. 343 have done nothing but waste our times narratively and the books are passable at best. Had they followed the games character progression we would get nothing for years. Legit he'd be a robot for like 30 hours. I don't think you understand how bad it would be over a long form medium like a tv show. I'm not saying the show is good, cause it's average at best, but halo has been narratively atrocious for years. This is just a reimagining thats no worse than what the franchise has been shitting out.

@Yayaloy9 the mandalorian is mid at best and a standard Disney toy seller at worst. Nobody said the show would be boring if they kept it on the point is they're just going at it from a totally different angle for better and worse. "It's not accurate" is totally irrelevant and quite frankly just throwing your toys out the pram. An exact recreation would would be it's own kind of issue. 1. How accurate it should be to be good is totally subjective. 2. It creates an uninspired shoe you'll know whats gonna happen before it does. 3. Accuracy to the source material will inevitably fail when we get to the parts that can and have sucked for years. Halo isn't a gold mine of narrative its been crap for years. Comparing vader, the main antagonist to the hero of a show is also not relevant. Like I said I'm not saying its great, it's not. But let's not pretend this is anything other than "the thing I like isn't exactly the same"

This reminds me of the scene in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood where Leo’s character is speaking with the director of a western he’s going to be on and the director wants to put a wig on him and a biker mustache to look more villainous, and Leo asks the director “how will anyone recognize me” to which the director responds “I hired you to play a character not yourself.” That is what these actors don’t seem to understand. If their character is meant to have their face covered like the Master Chief or the Mandalorian, then that’s the role you are supposed to play. You’re still going to be doing tours to promote the show, your name will still be in the credits, so people will know the character is you. If you want to play yourself then go do a reality tv show or start a podcast. The destruction of franchises like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Marvel and The Witcher is a whole other can of worms.

The original limitations of graphics are the reason Master Chief always wore a helmet. The second game Microsoft realized a male with no identifying marks, no race, and no origin is a valuable thing. @@ld4677 there were also 4 more halo games made after coming to that realization, three of those games were made by an entirely different developer. After six games of no face and the same voice you’ve built an expectation on how that character is perceived. And idk if you actually watched the Mandalorian but keeping his helmet on was part of the character’s story. That wasn’t something I made up nor was it lore that existed prior to that show coming out. That’s what the show runners told the audience in the first episode. The only reason Pedro pascal started taking the helmet off was because he was whining and complaining that nobody could see his face after season 1. The point I was making is if you sign up to play a role where your face is covered then shut up and play the role it’s meant to be played otherwise go find a job somewhere else.

Ok, budget were low, special effects technology obsolete (compared to the current one), most of the cast was too young for such responsibility, the staff themselves had lack of faith in the project and they knew inside it would be a flop, because it was just supposed to be a way to advertise Halo 4. BUT... It was pretty great. Lore friendly; Steve Downes himself dubbed Chief; the plot was a bit obvious, especially if you already knew the lore, but it was still engaging... Even Halo Nightfall is such a good movie, compared to this TV show (IMHO). Seriously, Chief taking his helmet off is the last of the things I didn't appreciate about the TV series. I still thought an amazing swan song for Robert Downey Jr would have been having the role as Master Chief where he could take on a hero’s namesake that isn’t associated with Marvel; he would have worked really well and he could have mainly provided the voice lines for the suit of Chief while it was worn by someone relatively tall. I think he’d like the role especially as it wouldn’t cause much conflict with his movie schedule. Second to that; I would love Kelsey Grammar as The Arbiter

When Vader took his mask off, it was the last movie at the time and fans wanted to know what he looked like under the mask. Halo is a different story. There is no reason for Master Chief to take his helmet off because he isn't on the verge of death like Vader. In Mandalorian, Dinn took it off 3 times one because Grogu wanted to see him. Plus we already knew who was playing him.

Only bad actors say the shit that guy has said. His performance in Halo helps back up that he is probably a bad actor(not that the writing helped). Karl Urban as Dredd, Hugo Weaving as V in V for Vendetta and others were able to convey emotion fantastically, despite masks and they're hardly alone. There are reasons why certain characters have hidden faces and part of it is mystery. You want to take the helmet off? Okay, but you do it when it matters, not at the drop of a hat. The Master Chief we know wore full armour to an award ceremony, getting some shit from Johnson. You definitely don't take it off in the middle of a fucking active combat zone. It wasn't just MC they fucked with that, half the Spartans presented kept taking their helmets off at stupid times.

This just reminds me of the Mandalorian and how originally he was never meant to reveal his face but the actor complained about it so they revealed it to appease him. Don't employ actors to play the roles of "faceless" characters if they're obsessed with having their face seen, part of the appeal of "faceless" characters is that we don't know who they are and that makes them mysterious, the focus then ends up being on how they interact with the world and those that inhabit it. Something i never understood with a lot of adaptations of well loved IPs is this combative attitude towards the fans, these people wouldn't be adapting a series in the first place if there wasn't already an established fanbase, it should always be about appeasing the fans first and then trying to pull in a wider audience, because the the fact of the matter is that the fans can sink a lot of these projects and we've seen it happen a number of times... Bungie disowning this adaptation is the biggest red flag going...

So let me get this straight, they don’t use the main halo theme what so ever either in the beginning credits of the show or in the show or even when an episode ends, then they let the actor take his helmet off because he wants to be seen so bad, and they don’t really stay that true to the source material. As an actor you should be able to make people feel something with just your voice just how the voice actor did within the game. Like dude had his helmet on for like a good 30 minutes for the first entire season every episode he took his helmet off and in like bro what are you doing. It’s annoying at this point when these companies hate fans so much, disrespect the source material and when the show does shitty numbers they blame the fans when they should’ve listened in the first place
