Hands down one of the best bang for buck automatics. I have plenty of seikos and orients, and for the similar price points, other than lume, I give the win to Hamilton. Especially for its movement and power reserve.

Just got mine and it’s a great cheap GADA watch. It’s currently running at +1.5 secs per day. The bracelet fits well but would love to see some kind of micro adjustment on the go, of course that would bump the price up somewhat. I’ve now two of these to my name, the other being the Mechanical 38mm. All of my previous buys have been divers but I’m liking Field Watches for their practicality and go anywhere do anything versatility.

Great review, I wear this exact model (38mm auto on metal bracelet) since more than one year, it's now a bit scratched on clasp and polished bezel for sure, but it's still beautiful, light play very well on the dial textures, on polished and brushed area of the case too, videos or photos dont always do it justice since there is so much reflections on the sapphire glass but in person it's a pleasure to look at. I wish it has lume as efficient as Seiko and drilled lugs, I also wish I could trust it more to go in the pool (but that was a great reason to buy a Seiko diver ahah!). I may one day switch to a Sinn 556 or a dreamy Explorer, but I will keep the Khaki around forever as the first watch i fell for.

Any of Hamilton's field watches are just great little timepieces . They are a simple tool and will take some serious abuse. My daily wearer for many years has been a 40mm hand winding version. They are strap monsters too -- wears well on leather, silicone, or my favorite, NATO. Like others have said, my only nick pick would be the lack of an anti-reflective crystal.

I own these exact two watches, too. I tend to wear the Sinn more because it's an overall 'nicer' and more versatile watch (and I want to get my money's worth of wrist time, lol). Yet, at times I wish I hadn't bought the Sinn (it came after the Hamilton). If I hadn't, the Hamilton would have still been my one and only daily driver -- and it would've done a great job, it's such a nice watch! Its simplicity, elegant design, light weight, excellent movement and intriguing history are just mind blowing. I will never sell this watch!

@jipke
@jipke 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ferien7 I'm aware of that and it was a risk I was willing to take. My watchmaker checked the movement after inserting the glass and said it was running perfectly, with high accuracy and high amplitude (which I'd already guessed from its daily performance). By the time my watch needs service the warranty will have expired anyway. And I assume you don't mean that Hamilton won't service any watch that has been fiddled with -- regardless of the warranty -- because that would be ridiculous.

I know what you mean about the "shortcomings" with most Khakis having only 100m of water resistance, but I have grown to appreciate the thinness of the Khaki line. There are so many non-divers now (many with NH35 movements) with 200-300m of water resistance that end up being 13mm+ thick.
@Ferien7
@Ferien7 3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Watches nowadays are generally too thick and bulky, non-divers included. As a smaller guy with 6.5in wrists, it’s almost impossible finding watches from traditional brands that are the correct size and proportions for my frame.

You would need to be a small person to wear this watch. I like the 42mm although that is also small for me with my 8" wrist. I like the dial. Minutes on the outside, pointy hands that go all the way to the minute marks, red tipped seconds hand, 24 hour inside dial. The crown works well. You can simply wind the spring without unscrewing the crown. It's not super accurate. I like it although just buy a G Shock and be done.

@@jipke for the vast majority of people, 38mm is pretty much the (modern) sweetspot. 8 inch wrists mean you're a pretty big person, but I can see what you mean with it being small for you. Sizes in watches are all subjective. For example, my wrists were 7", now about 6.75" from losing weight, so personally anything over 40mm sounds big for me now (Speed/Seamasters exempted!). Granted, every watch wears differently, so it's worth just trying them on wrist before deciding. I do find it interesting how relative size becomes, it's fun to discuss.
