The khaki field auto 38 is still my favorite Hamilton and one of my all time favorite watches, but the new Murph is definitely one of their best.

I got rid of the 42mm Murph mostly because of the lug length and party because of the crystal glare. I have the Murph 38 now and love it. It's a great little watch in just about every respect. I have never worn the factory strap on either Murph because they were both way too long.

Sorry about the intro sound. Can never get it right in that echo chamber. After hours of trying to clean it up I had to use AI to clean up the sound and this is the final result. This is one of the reason I stopped doing intros..... the time and annoyance dealing with sound. One day I'll spend on proper equipment. But I wanna buy a watch so probably wont

I love this watch and it is my daily. I’ve been wearing it for two months straight now and it runs at -2 per day consistently. My only complaints are that the AR is terrible and so is the lume. Other than that the piece is fantastic and versatile. Looks as good on an army green nato as it does on a leather strap. I highly recommend it.

I'm actually glad they got rid of the Morse code. The watch in the movie didn't have the Morse code on it so the 42 always felt more like a souvenir of the movie rather than the watch that was in the movie.

I recently bought a murph 38 watch but the crystal looks hazy as I feel there is no AR on the crystal, right

The Hamilton Murph 38mm is lovely. I wear it on an Uncle Seiko Jubille bracelet for the Alpinist and works well. But imho, it belongs best on a genuine crocodile leather strap, which is on the way.

I bit the bullet, paid the high price, and bought the Murph 38, because I loved the way it looked in pictures. In real life, I'm kind of disappointed; the brownish fautina makes the dial dark and dim, compared to my (much cheaper) Hamilton Khakis. Much less readable in daylight. I'd like it better if the hands and printing were white, like the khakis. Hate to say it, but I may be selling this one on.

Ahh that happens sometimes we do not connect with the timepiece. Give it a couple weeks sometimes that helps.

It lives in the shadow of Seiko Baby Alpinist IMHO, and the Seiko has a better dial, better AR coating, and arguably better case finishing...

@@daveLin104 If you don't mind reflective dial get the Murph, otherwise get the Alpinist. Someone on KZfaq compared the two but I forgot who. It's almost a tie.

No, but it ticked out the word in Morse code. They probably didn’t have to pay the movie tie-in money on this one.

No it did not. Personally I like it that way as I would rather have a watch that is more authentic to what was actually used in the movie rather than having an add-on to clearly tie it to the movie but wasn’t actually in the movie.

I actually think leaving the Morse code off was a good decision. I’d rather have a watch that is closer in authenticity to what was actually used in the movie than to have the same watch with added Morse code that wasn’t in the movie. To each their own though.

It's a nice watch but the fauxtina writing is not for me. I gave it a try two times but I still prefer my khaki mechanical officer with the white writing, much more useful and sharp.

At this price I have expectations and dreams: - 40mm (the perfect middle road) - Eureka - A closed case-back with the Ranger spacecraft (credit to Urban Gentry) - Surprise us with the textured dial of the Aviation Pilot Pioneer 38mm, or not - A better leather strap - Pioneer instead of Khaki Automatic - A watch that can be regulated?

I still want it in 40 mm… I have two 38mm Hamiltons… love the watches however, sometimes I feel like they’re a bit small on the wrist… not going to buy another 38… Thanks for the great review!
