Got an old Ford F-150 4x4, 300-6, 4-speed and not a place on it that wasn't dented or scraped. Called it 'SPOT'. Had headlights and brake lights but no running lights. I pulled the switch and ran a jumper from the headlight feed to the running lights. Not only did I get running lights I got dash lights and a HORN! It'd pass inspection with the horn but the headlights had to be on. Get a bigger hammer. It'll be all right. BLESSINGS!

Go to NAPA-buy and install a new headlight switch. ( I would keep a spare one in the dash pocket) On those older Ford 350/450's-mid 80's-90's--that headlight switch wasn't heavy enough to carry all that current draw from the lights--especially if you had an auxiliary bed installed. We had a couple small wreckers/rollback that had that problem. Ford's answer at the time was to add an extra , I think 30 amp. relay in line behind the switch. If you [pull that harness/.connector off the back of the switch--one or more off those wires/pins are probably going to be burnt up/melted. You'll figure it out. Old wiring can be a night mare--especially if the guy in front of you didn't know what he was doing.

If cel or check engine light will turn on with the key and then goes out when it starts up not coming on possibly a missing bulb 💡 that is the used car dealership way to sell it without any lights on its not hard to check as well as upgrading to the brighter led style and make the cluster look much more visible not the dull green cluster bulbs and current styling in vintage truck that nobody can see the difference unless they are driving in same type of truck

Dusty or dirty inside the switch. They make a spray cleaner for electronics, though, it might be easier to buy another switch...Dose your dimmer for the dash lights still work? If not get new switch ... Make sure it is the switch first and not the connections at the switch. Ford was good at the wiring boot coming lose from the switch if the clips were off.

My 2004 F350 Kingranch dually, crewcab 2WD. Last fall my IPR valve failed at a stop sign with a no start. The engine is a 6.0 turbo diesel so the IPR valve is located on the side of the block behind the FICM, so a little difficult to get at and as well needs a special socket. I would think the cab lights would be in the parking light circuit. I’m almost certain you wouldn’t need the key on. In Missouri, we have to pay roughly 5% sales tax on all vehicle purchases, plus a tag fee. The tax is only paid once, the tag fee is each time you renew the tags. We can take an out of state purchase, to any shop that does our safety inspections for an ID/OD inspection to verify VIN on title matches vehicle.

Make sure you keep up on your oil as well with that truck. If your oil is too low below the full mark the injection system won't get enough oil to be able to fire the injectors which will cause misfires and other weird issues. We have that same engine in an F450 dump truck though admittedly that engine is on it's way out but low oil causes some very weird issues with those engines.

Oil in the valley means something is leaking not the IPR solenoid issue you had. Possibly HPOP gasket or high pressure oil lines to the heads or turbo pedestal. Also check for oil impregnation of the pressure sensor on the oil rail in the head. The diaphragm goes bad and pushes oil into the plug and wires.
