I have saturated my brain with Mike's videos from Stone Coat Countertops, and used his products on my 1st bathroom countertop. I saw you on one of his videos and decided to start watching yours ... Wow! love, love, love your artsy, innovative techniques. Want to try many of them in upcoming DIY projects around our home. Really like the aged, patina look you have achieved on your copper videos and want to try it in our master bedroom bathroom counter. The very best to you. Girl, I enjoy you so much!! Super glad you've decided to do this! (and I don't mind the way you say trowel, at all lol). It cracks me up every time you mention using your hands to get those drips coming off the bottom of the board instead of the edges, no matter how many times I hear you say it! My grandma had one of those oooold (like epoxy probably wasn't called epoxy yet, old) tables that had shells and pictures and sailor stuff set into a clear epoxy. We all sat cross legged under the coffee table when we came over to eat, and by God, those drips. Let's just say, over the years, those drips owe all of us blood.... Bless you for saving the thighs of our youngin's! LOL! Keep up the good work!

Since I did that 2 years ago, i watched your video again to do one side counter and it came out almost melty looking! It's smooth and pretty but i wanted the chopped look that has almost 3D depth. Was it too cold? Did i not mix it long enough? Does the hammered paint create that chopped look? Thank you AGAIN for all your help...xoxo

Love watching all your videos, Rhonda!! I do resin art, but have also used Stonecoat and UTC as a top coat over a previously painted benchtop. For my new house, it will be industrial style and I want to make my benchtops with a realistic dark sort of aged copper, rather than a patina copper. Originally I was going to do copper leaf and use chemicals to age it, then use Stonecoat and matte UTC over that. I've decided that's tooooo much effort and much too fiddly!! I'm loving what you did here but also love your copper tissue paper benchtop that you did. I'm wondering if you think it would work if I used just the Rustoleum copper hammer finish paint and used the black (or a dark brown) glaze over that, then just Stonecoat and matte UTC?? With my benchtops, I'm using 32mm MDF with routered top and bottom edges, then adding 15mm half round wooden beads spaced along the edges to look like copper studs. Thanks!! Danielle

This really is a fabulous technique, thank you for all the tips. 2 questions: I want to do this to a counter where I will have a sink dropped in. I assume the finished epoxy counter won't cut well and that it is best to cut for the sink before doing the epoxy/paint finish? Secondly, how well does this as a counter, hold up and not get scratched/dinged?
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 2 жыл бұрын
We actually cut our sinks after we pour our finish foe drop in sinks. Just tape where you’re going to cut and use a fine tooth blade. We’ve been installing epoxy countertops going on 5 years now and Stonecoat epoxy a fabulous, durable products. I HIGHLY recommend you top coat with The Ultimate Top Coat (either matte or gloss sheen). Take the durability to a new level. I have several videos where I demo the UTC. 😊 All the products are available on our website www.RK3Designs.com

sorry...one more question. I just painted wood countertop with 2 coats of Rustoleum Hammered paint and it sucked right in to the wood (no hammered cool craters) NOW i'm worried it needs to be sealed before I begin my project. OR is it okay to start pouring hammered copper tinted epoxy?
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 3 жыл бұрын
I tinted the epoxy with mica powders. I don’t have an exact ratio, I just mix until I reach the opacity I’m looking for. What sort of wood did you paint over? Plywood, MDF or raw wood? You may need to paint another coat of the hammered copper. If you tint the epoxy very opaque you won’t be able to see through to the substrate so don’t worry too much about seeing the hammered effects.

@@Tanya-mh2hn I’m so sorry you’re having issues. You can sand with 220 and yes you can mist to do a wet sand. Once you sand, dry and remove the dust. Once dry, if you still have a lot of dust in the bubbles you sanded, take a vacuum and clean them out. Pour flood coat.

Can this technique be used in an outdoor application using the Art Coat? I am building bee hives which will be in partial shade/partial sun and exposed to extremes of heat and cold weather, plus moisture.

Can you add any type of paint or additive into an epoxy?
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 4 жыл бұрын
There are many additives that can be used however, depending on what brand you’re using. Most epoxies are not compatible with water based or acrylic additives.
