Greetings everyone! This last weekend I had the opportunity to participate in the first Rocky Mountain Hobby Expo and I was able to bring a lot of my work to show. It was an absolute blast, and I even got to meet with a lot of fans of the channel!!
Hope you enjoy this short tour around the expo and if you see your work be sure to timestamp and leave a comment so you can get recognition!

Hi Brett. That looked like a very cool show. In Britain shows don,t tend to be this big , but no less enthusiastic. You hit the nail on the head when you said that it is great fun being with like minded people. For me putting my models on the table is not the be all to end all. Its the meeting people and exchanging thoughts and ideas that I look forward too. If I win a medal well thats a bonus. There were some spectacular models on show including your own , but you do yourself a diservice. You are a truly brilliant model maker and I don,t see how you could improve your ability's. I really enjoyed your video and look forward to your next one. Thankyou for your time and effort , cheers buddy.

Mark Batson, aka “HobbyDude 007”, attended an event in South Carolina recently that was formatted in a similar manner. Except at his particular show, the modeler chose one of their models to be judged, and each modeler got a 36” square (IIRC) display space. I’ve only been to one IPMS contest (actually the only contest I’ve ever been to - and I won a gold), but I think I like this format better. I think the slideshow is the best way to shoot events like this as well. Gives us the opportunity to pause on a subject clearly. Great coverage! Peace and love.

Great video, Brett!! It was also nice to meet you, although briefly. There were four of us from Idaho that came down to the show, two from the Boise area and two from N. Idaho. Looking forward to coming down again next year. Loved that you got a shot of my A-6A with the folded wings towards the end of your video. One thing I definitely learned is that I need to do bases with my builds, they make the subjects pop! Jeremy Elliott

I live in the Lake District in the UK and we are on the training flight path for the RAF and USAF low level flight training. In the last few weeks RAF Typhoons have rattled my windows as well as Chinooks and AH64Ds flying in formation. The USAF V22 Osprey and F-15 Strike Eagles. Now all these are low level training here, some at night but the majority in the day and they make a hell of a noise. I would not want to be facing down something like the F-15 that's for sure.. Anyway great content on here my friend, loving it

I liked the vlog style of video. I've been watching for years, and I use a lot of techniques I learn from your videos. I havent heard of this type of procedure before

I wasn't there, just a tad too far away, but there is no doubt in my mind that this Expo format was vastly superior to the standard IPMS format. I particularly like the idea that the modeler can be associated with their work and that others have an opportunity to meet the people behind the work. I think the smaller turn out in certain subject matter is more indicative of modeler's interests in general, or perhaps what they feel comfortable building. Shows / Contests that divide into categories will, by definition, give a different impression of what is popular in modeling just because of the congregation of the same types in the same area of the show. The Rocky Mountain Expo format, I believe, promotes more models being shown by each modeler, versus a category style show where a modeler may only bring a few of what they consider to be their best work. For this last reason, I think that the Expo format gives a more nuanced view of the hobby, but also presents some challenges to deal with if the show grows in participation. Challenges meaning, "Will there be enough space for everyone?" , "Will there be enough time for viewers to see everything?", "Will it be more difficult to remember a the myriad numbers of modelers one could potentially meet?". Nonetheless, this is a vastly superior format and I can only hope that IPMS will get off of it's hidebound duff and consider similar changes.
@HammerheadModelMaking
@HammerheadModelMaking 11 күн бұрын
Yeah, the overall format was very conducive to actually meeting people and talking about their work, and having been to both types of shows now I can say the Expo was way more friendly and inviting. And I agree with what you said about how many models an artist will bring, I had close to 20 models at the expo, but for the IPMS show I'm planning on attending this September, I will likely only have 5-6, There are a few things I know wont do well in the respective categories, so there isn't much incentive to bring them. As far as the challenges you bring up, those all sound like good problems to have so I'd take them any day over IPMS format! Cheers mate!

@@HammerheadModelMaking Thanks, I really appreciate the information, showing my age :-) I recently found out that there were models from the movie 2001 put out years ago. Mobieus had a majority of them and there are 3 scale sizes of the Pan Am clipper. The largest was 1/72 . Checking eBay they are very proud of the pricing, however when you consider kit prices of today's kits not too far out of line.
