Hey shug shuggity shoog! I was wondering if you could make a video on backwoods cooking. Perhaps show how you reheat your pancakes you made the night before, or little tips and tricks for one-pot cooking. It would be nice to have all your cooking tips in one place. Just a couple ideas! Thanks
@shugemery

I don't truly cook...mainly boil water for dehydrated meals. As to the panckes I did show that I but them in a boil bag and just heat them in boiling water. Pretty simple stuff. Most of my meals are kinda part of all my trip videos. Hope that helps.

Yeah I just bought beetle buckles and longer straps. I found that with shorter straps and whoopie slings which is the lightest setup, the straps were too short for some trees. So I figured if I need longer straps anyway I might as well just make it as simple/quick/easy as I could.

Very Good Shug! I have bought a lot of gear from Dutch over the last few years. A little off topic, but watching some of the ultralight guys videos they have next to nothing for first aid. In my opinion I think that they are starting to push their gear too much to save weight. A six or seven pound base weight sounds good, but if something happens when they are alone it could be a nightmare. Warmer clothing is another area that they push the limit.

Hey Shug! I'm a long time watcher and beginner hammock camper, and I'd like to thank you for your informative videos! I have one question or suggestion though: looking at your comprehensive series on hammock suspension, I'm seeing a dozen different sliding buckles with various trimmings that seem to my engineering eye functionally identical with each other and descender rings for the main parts, and pretty much the same goes with whoopie slings and the UCRs that implement the same exact principle for the same function. It would be fantastic if you could drill down deeper on the pros and cons of different general types and whether the particular implementations are good or bad examples of you catch my drift. I'm familiar with using whoopie slings and I spliced myself a set with soft shackles for tree straps, but as of now it's hard for me to grasp the differences between all these set ups in different usage scenarios and I don't have the time or funds to try each and every type for myself.
@shugemery
@shugemery 6 жыл бұрын
Well they all serve the same pupose just different materials. Like pens and forks..they all write or put food in your mouth but there are slight design differences. It is just a matter of what you like best. I use whoopies and cinch buckles for the most part. Sounds like you have a system you like. I feel I went as far as I need to on suspension and feel that you could search for more on You Tube and maybe get more insight. Always good to do even more research and see what others do. Carry forth. Also you could always contact Dutchware or the likes as they are always happy to answer folks.

Shug I appreciate the videos as always! I hope you and yours had a very Merry Christmas! I do have a question though. I'm going winter camping in a few days in the Smokies, the temps are supposed to be around 12-15 degrees at night. I have a 20 degree synthetic bag, and a 30 degree down quilt. Do you think using these in a combination would be sufficient? And if so, should I put the quilt on the outside of the synthetic bag? I will be ground camping for this endeavor. Thank you

I would put the down bag against me. Down quilt inside the synthetic would be my choice. Have fun. And a good pad beneath you.

Hi Shug! Do you think the woopie slings are necessary with the dyneema straps and cinch buckles? Seems like one can be eliminated.. my new Xmas setup is Dutch clip with dyneema to cinch buckle/continuous loop to Dutch biner to continuous loop/hammock... I see eno came out with their Helios tree straps/slings Seems lighter but short spanned... Either way all good systems just wanted to get your opinion😆wooo buddy!

Have a look at the video on dutchwaregear.com.com for the proper way to use the Dutch buckle, you got it wrong on your second attempt as well. :) Your way will work but it seems safer the way it's done on the Dutch site. Love your videos though :)

It has been holding well for me.....just cant see how it will slip. Do you use one?
@chjohans
@chjohans 6 жыл бұрын
Yup, have been using them for a couple of years. If you try both ways you'll see that using it "the Dutch way" will have more of the buckle below your loop resting/pressing against the strap, so it is less likely to "flip", at least in theory. But I tend to agree, it will probably hold just fine both ways. But if I was (even) heavier I would have only used it "the Dutch way". :) Thanks for hours of great humor and hammock tips!
