This is not a review, more of a first look at my new Hammock the Amok Draumr Ultalight (UL) extra large version (XL). I have never owed or even camped in a hammock, and the Amok Draumr is a unique lay flat hammock. I spend the night in the hammock camping and compare the experience to camping in a tent. I will answer the questions...
Is it easy to set up this hammock?
Can you side sleep in a Hammock, well the Draumr hammock?
Does the Draumr hammock take up less space in your pack?
Does the Draumr UL XL set up (hammock, Skjold 10 camo tarp and Fjol Ultralight sleeping pad) weigh less than my tent and sleeping pad set up?
How much space to you have the the XL version of the Draumr hammock?
How comfortable is the Draumr hammock?

Extremely easy to get in/out of once u get the hang (phun intended) of it. Thanks for the video. Came home from 5 day Canoe trip around Femunden yesterday. Brought my Draumr 5 XL. Love it!

It seems like your first hammock experience wasn't that bad at all:) The UL fabric is durable when handled with care. If you experience any trouble with the valve on the UL pad, just let us know, and we´ll help you out. It's not a common problem, so there's no need to worry:) Stay wild! Team Amok

Yeah is very nice, great bit of kit. Its just that valve could be better, the whole sleep system basically depends on a 2mm diameter rubber tab. If it never fails and lasts many years sure its not a problem :-) BTW I intended to put 4 stars on your website for the hammock dont know why I put 3... You can change it :-)

@@outdoorting The valve is pretty solid. The green rubber flap inside the valve keeps the air inside the pad when you inflate it. The o-ring and valve cap are the essential components to keep the pad inflated when used. We´ll send you the review request once more. @@outdoorting I have a similar valve in another air mattress. The trick is to simply push the flap inside slightly to one side, and not touch the piece that holds the valve to the plastic. Mine has lasted flawlessly for years.

I agree that the sleeping pad check valve could stand a redesign. But I picked this simple tip up from another video. Instead of pulling the check valve out, simply push from the bottom of the pad to pop it out. Very simple and effective!

Thats a very interesting hammock design. I like the pockets it has, looks very handy for keeping stuff closeby, and definitely better suited to air matress than most traditional hammocks (personally i cant make it work in a normal hammock). Really good review

I'm yet to try a traditional hammock, would like to give it a go will be handy to cut weight down if I'm on a big trek. But this thing is like glamping lol

I am watching your video just as I am lying in my Draumr UL the very first time! :-) Up on a little hill next to a sightseeing tower in the woods in Sweden! No place for a tent here either, so a hammock has a clear advantage! It’s going to be an interesting night!

@@outdoorting the issue I have with hammocks is that I like to pack light and they are large and heavy. My current bivy and mattress is a out 1kg. I notice that some people switch the webbing with paracord to make the hammock smaller and lighter. Thanks for the in-depth info it has been really handy. I might have to get out and try cheapo hammock soon before the weather gets too cold.

That's a great hammock. More comfortable than the regular sandwich style hammocks

Interesting design, would love to see how to use that in heavy rain, looks like it may be an issue with catching water. Anyhow, good luck with it, thanks for sharing.

You can set the trap so it comes below the hammock I think its fine. Not that it really rains so much here :-)

Good video. Simple. I've seen other videos about this hammock that dragged on. If done a price compaison and found it to be more expensive. I'm fled your experience was good.

Thanks, its defo not cheap, but if you add in a light weight under quilt with a high end normal hammock it is about the same

Amok are sending me one of these to test against my Haven flat lay hammock. Looking forward to it. Not sure if you've used it since this but when getting in and out it's easier to have it in the seated position and straddle your legs either side of the mat. Allegedly 😂 we'll see.

Amazing! Sure you will love it. Used it plenty since this video just still not been filming just enjoying the mountains with out thinking about shots and content is nice.... Its still holding up strong :-) Getting out it doesnt matter in lay flat or chair mode its the same put a leg either side and slide down. Getting it just weight the center point with your knee to step up..

Does it move much during the night? It looks like it swings for quite a while after you get in

In the night it doesn't move once your centered., There is a technique to getting in and it won't swing, the bit in the video with it swinging I did on purpose.

Thanks for the review! I'm very tempted to go ahead and snag one of these. I have a quite a few sleeping pads already. Do you thinks it's important to buy one of their proprietary sleeping pads, or do you think most sleeping pads would do as well?

Check the size, i think others will work but it will have to be big to fill the pocket

Hiya pal go with the AMOK pad it's well hit and miss using other pads especially if the baffles aren't running vertically it's a kind of full system the AMOK, Pad and Tarp all from the same company all work together you might not get the hit you want trying to cobble stuff around the actual swinger mate 😀👍
