Love the hamstring curls on rings. I hang them from my pullup bar at home, and pair them with my nordstick to get both of those exercises at home.

A great superset I like to do is Nordic hamstring curls followed by RDLSs or 45 degree back extensions. Nordic hamstring curls is good for high peak force The RDLs and 45 degree back extensions are good for getting a good stretch on hamstrings. Also good for getting a pump.
@marcusfilly
@marcusfilly 8 ай бұрын
That one sounds awesome!

Yep it “solves” problems with both exercises. Problem with nordics: 1) hamstrings aren’t fully stretched because hips are extended 2) you feel a ton of tension but don’t get much of a muscle burn or pump because reps are low Problems with RDLs/back extensions: 1) people often are limited by erector strength or experience low back pain Nordics solve problem of RDLs by prefatiguing hamstrings. RDLs/back extensions are complementary to nordics because they give you more stretch, burn, and pump. By prefatiguing

Great info, Marcus! If you only had space for one of these posterior chain machines in your home gym, which would you choose? GHD, Reverse Hyper, 45 degree, or something else?
@marcusfilly
@marcusfilly 8 ай бұрын
I would likely opt for the GHD since it is quite versatile. Home gym tools should have multiple purposes. But the 45 degree bench is a bit less expensive. Freak Athlete makes a tool that does it all
@liftsalty
@liftsalty 8 ай бұрын
@@marcusfilly Funny you mention that. I have the same Eleiko GHD you do, but I've been contemplating if I should replace it with the Freak Athlete Nordic Hyper. I like the idea of how versatile it is on paper but we'll see when reviews are out. That Eleiko GHD is such a nice piece; I wouldn't have space for both. Bougie equipment problems!

I was doing Nordic curls at the gym using a barbell with hip pad on a rig support and pad on my knees, but I must’ve done it too frequently (one day rest in between) because it made my lateral knee start hurting, possibly IT band tightness. Any experience or advice with that kind of pain doing this exercise?
@marcusfilly
@marcusfilly 8 ай бұрын
Even exercises that are good for you can be done too frequently Back off and lower the frequency and start to build back

If you see this, regarding RDL's. How do you think is better. I can load up 315 and do sets of 6-7 reps. Or I can do around 225 for 10-12 reps. If I am feeling good and back is feeling good, I like doing the heavier sets. But do you see a benefit for opting for a lower weight and higher reps on these? I will also say I like the heavier because I can get a decent back workout at the same time. :D
@marcusfilly
@marcusfilly 8 ай бұрын
I would stick with the style that you like the most more often. Maybe every 3rd or 4th training cycle that you run you can try out the mid rep range for a change. There is value in exploring other rep ranges periodically. If only for the sole purpose of giving you a deload on heavy sets
