No, if this was any other employees he would have been presumed to be innocent until proven guilty. You can't fire someone cause of an allegation until it is proven in court.

@@marvinsulzer8258 Absolutely correct. If an employer fired someone based on an allegation, they'd be legally liable for damages. In the case of this MP, no risk is presented to the country by him remaining in the position. Though, no doubt, he'll have to resign if he becomes a political liability or he's compelled to resign on his own accord. I doubt there's a legal basis to remove him, even if the allegations turn out to be true.

I am developing a whole new respect for Tom Mulcair, despite my opposition to his personal politics. His commentary is considered, well reasoned, and neutral. His observations are shrewd and pertinent, and his obvious current concern for the welfare of the institution of democracy in Canada is an alarm bell for every citizen of this great nation. I can honestly say I NEVER thought I would find myself agreeing with anything that came out of this man's mouth... but then, I'm also willing to bet HE never thought he would ever be saying that Pierre Poilievre was exactly right!

Not only do we need a public inquiry. We need a public platform that puts each politician through a series of mandates. An app with check points specific to our politicians. Essentially it would track them and there performance to hold them accountable. In cases like this the app would disapprove any upcoming meetings etc..until the issue is resolved. Each morning the politician/public servants would have to sign in and complete a series of questions, holding them accountable in writing. My great grandfather wrote the Canadian national anthem..he would be turning in his grave....
