Hello there, fellow model makers!! After my first hand painted series, a lot of you requested that I should make another hand painted kit, this time a little more elaborate than the first one. So here it! I hope you enjoy it :)

G'day SMM, Thank you so much for another 'Brush Painting Model'. Brush users everywhere will appreciate your efforts to show us how to brush properly. Now I see that you have done the expanded detail videos on this kit. This will, again, be of great help to us "Brushers". I really appreciate showing us what to do when you make small mistakes. This is valuable information so that we don't mess up a model and waste our time and money. In my country models from Europe and the US are very costly to ship to Australia. Fixing mistakes means a lot to people like me who have come back to modelling after a break of many years. I truly liked your finished model and I will be getting myself a Hurricane kit because of your success. By the way, do you have a favourite kit manufacturer? Recently, experienced builders, like you, have been saying that the standard of Airfix models has been deteriorating, do you agree? As luck would have it, I have a 1/72 Revell B-17 kit and now I've noticed you have a set of videos on the B-17, this has given me enough confidence to tackle that large kit myself, after I put your tips into practice with the Hurricane. Thanks again for the great favours you are doing for us brushing modellers! Cheers, and I hope you are well and happy. BH Hobart, Tasmania

Today i want to take me some time and thank you so much for your excellent Videos. They are the reason why i reactivatet this hobby for me. Your instructions work so good that my first Modell after a long time (a BF 109) looks so great and i had so much fun to build it. With the right techniques it is so awesome. I paint my Kits by hand so far and they look now so lovely. I have a airbrush starter Kit too but i want to try it later. So thank you for your sharing and please make more of these. Hello there ! Very very nice tip with the masking tape sealing ! I stick to brushpainting for now and always had the issue of paint going under the masking tape and it was always a tedious job to sans the relief paint residue and then repair the damage before going to the next steps. Now it's way better. Just finished Airfix 190 A 8 , now to Eduard Mig 21 ! Have a nice day

I wish the owner of this channel had not stopped posting new videos. He's good.

Hello again! Another really fine video and I did, indeed, learn something from it. :) The tip about going over the edges of masking tape with the base color is new to me and you can bet that I will be adding it to my bag of tricks. As a matter of fact, I have an inexpensive 1/48 Spitfire by Pegasus Models that's been sitting on my shelf for ages that I'll use as a test piece. The kit has few pieces (it is marketed as a snap-fit kit) but it's generally accurate in shape and should produce a reasonably good model once it's finished. (I have done a Hurricane I and Me-109 from the same series but I used an airbrush on them and was quite happy with the results.) Thanks for another great video and giving me the inspiration to get one of my old kits off the shelf and on to the work bench. Take care, friend. :)

Interesting, I can't afford an airbrush at this point, so I do only brush painting, but I've found that you don't need to have the paint quite as thin and runny as you make it. It does need to be thinned (I use Tamiya acrylics and usually do between 1:4 to 1:6 for water to paint ratio as some paints are thicker than others), but I've found you can make it slightly less thin and runny than you do and you won't have it pool up as much, but it will still self level and require fewer coats, usually three or four. It also has a tendency to bubble less.

@scalemodellingmadness4114
@scalemodellingmadness4114 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks KP. I am not very particular about the brand, but usually I try to use natural fiber brushes, when I can. Since, I don't do too many hand painted models, my supply of brushes is limited. But if you intend to hand paint models regularly, you could invest in some good natural brushes. Having said that, some synthetic brushes are also pretty good.

Thanks! I got a lot more tips for my current build (Nippon Maru). Could you go into detail about what brushes you are used for what coats? It looks like a flat then the last is a round?
@scalemodellingmadness4114
@scalemodellingmadness4114 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jason, thanks. Yes, I am using a flat brush for most of the painting. I had to shift to a soft round brush for the last camouflage scheme since the flat brush would not fit. However, the shape of the brush is only one of the things that helps get a clean finish, more importantly, keep the paint thin and watery so that it self levels.

What size(s) Flat Brushes do you recommend for Hand Painting AirPlanes and CarKits?
@scalemodellingmadness4114
@scalemodellingmadness4114 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Southpaw, the size of the brush usually is a function of the size of the kit. However, I do not usually go above a size 12 flat brush as I find it most comfortable to work with. It is wide enough to give good coverage, yet narrow enough for painting basic boundaries, etc.

Was glad to see you did another hand painting video after the Thunderbolt. With the virus, I really got into model making and use your videos as my main reference. Do you have any preference as far as choice of model manufacturer and brush types? Thank you!
@scalemodellingmadness4114
@scalemodellingmadness4114 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks David. While picking a model I do prefer to go for the newer releases as these tend to be better engineered and have better detailing. This can easily be found by a simple google search or do what I do, which is check on scalemates.com, they have a section called product timeline which shows exactly when a particular kit was released, upgraded, etc. Also, I do sometimes go through a few kit review videos and articles, particularly if the kit is expensive. I have also found that Eduard and Tamiya usually have great kits, I mean I have not even been disappointed with their stuff. As for brush types, am not really too particular. Hope that helps :)

Thank you Panos. I use canned varnish simply because it really cuts down on time. I don't like to have too long a gap between uploading videos. Also, it is easily available and cheap, so I think it is something even a beginner can invest in. Thanks again :)

@YorkshirePiper
@YorkshirePiper 4 жыл бұрын
With vellejo they just need thinning correctly and a good shake, once you get the right ratio they are fine., as with any paint. I did find they clog easy if not properly mixed, some bottles can be on shelves or in storage for a long time, the pigments will degrade and create a terrible coat. Luke

Hey James! I have found Vallejo paints to be really nice. Now, I can't speak about the accuracy of the correct shade of the paints...that is a very heated topic and I have realised it's best one steer clear of it :)... but for use with an airbrush they are fine. Do keep in mind that Vallejo has more than one type of paint, Vallejo Model Air, is designed for airbrushes, where as Vallejo Model Color range is for hand painting. But, with correct dilution you can use any Vallejo paint for airbrushing or hand painting, as I have done here. Hope that helps :)

Hey Ziggy, the brush will depend on the kit you are using. Any decent quality brush (I use synthetic fiber) that can be used on the kit surface without obstruction or minimum obstruction will do. So it the kit has large flat area I would use a nice wide brush, a quarter inch or even half an inch if the kit is 48th or 32nd scale. If the surface is narrow then perhaps a narrow or round brush. Hope that helps :)
